It had a bank and a salon. My aunt had a birthday party and they had food there and it was good. They had activities. They had a calendar of activities."

"My husband is moving into Touchmark At All Saints. They have two levels of memory care, and he is going to the pre-memory care. They were just so warm, and we were impressed with them. Where he is going is not a locked facility. However, if he gets worse, then he will move into the locked area. It is just really good. I saw the menu, and I talked to another resident, and he said, "The food is great.""

"I read about Dow Rummel on a paper and they were having an open house so I just drove out and visited the facility. My husband was with me and I wanted to look at some of the apartments. He said he doesn't think he wants an apartment. The personnel who gave us the tour said they have a cottage so we went to see it and he just loved it right away. So that's where we lived for a while which is still part of Dow Rummel. When he passed away everyone wanted me to come out of the cottage and have an apartment so I won't be isolated. So then I came up here and took an apartment and I've been here ever since. It has been 8 years now so It's been a really nice experience. During my stay here, I've had 2 different apartments. At first, I had the 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment and I have some friends and relatives come over which was nice. After a couple of years, I really didn't need all that room. I happened to be hospitalized and while I was there my kids found this apartment where I am in right now. It's small but it's very homey looking. It looks out for you to see the front gate and I see the people moving about outside which I really like. I wanted the apartment to be painted in yellow and they did. It's very homey. I'm not a very picky eater. I have told them that I only like to have small portions and they have followed my request. I'm very satisfied. The staff are perfectly wonderful. They are so nice and so caring. I'm 90 years old now and I just feel right at home here. People are so nice. I couldn't be happier. "

"My father lived in the memory care unit. The environment is very homelike and the rooms are large with lots of windows for light. The staff here are wonderful! They take the time to really get to know the person living there and find activities they like to do. They are truly caring individuals. I always felt comfortable with him living there because I felt that Dad was among friends. "

"I can't say enough good things about Edgewood. 10 years ago my great-uncle was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He willingly move into an assisted living home, knowing what his home life could become(his mother and father, and my maternal great-grandparents, both had Alzheimer's). The facility he moved into was ok, but it wasn't equipped to deal with him as his memory continued to falter and deteriorate. About 5 years ago we (he and I) looked into moving him closer to me, and into a program or facility that was better equipped to focus on memory. We visited two Edgewood Vista's: one in Minnesota(he's from northern Wisconsin and I'm from Southwestern Iowa, so it was a little closer) and Sioux Falls, SD. We loved both facilities. While I can't the amenities are spectacular, they are good and the facilities are clean and friendly. What makes Edgewood(at least the one in Sioux Falls) so great is the staff. They know what they are getting into and you can tell as hard as the work is they are good at it and treat the residents like people. The nurses talk to the residents about their past and don't mind the constant repeating. Many of them seem to really love their jobs and the care they are giving. Since he has been there his memory loss has continued, but it is at a much slower rate than when he entered. I visit a couple of times per year and bring my two boys, he still knows both them and me, something I wouldn't have thought possible 7 years ago. While I can't say the facility will "wow" you, I can say that the staff and the program have worked amazingly for my great-uncle. "

"My mom is a resident of Legends on Lake Lorraine. We were lucky they had one opening, and we didn't waste any time taking it. It's an adjustment for her. She was in a larger apartment with two bedrooms, a living area, and a kitchen area, which she wasn't using. We moved her to a smaller unit with just a bedroom, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. It's a very nice unit. It's interesting. The floor she's on, the memory care unit, is unique because the hallways look like a little village as you walk down the hallway. It seems like a little home. It's very well done and has a homey feeling, and I highly recommend it to anyone else. They have a cafe and they have formal dining area on the first floor of the facility that they can use, but a lot of times they eat in their dining room on their floor, so they only have to walk a few feet to get to that, which if they're don't feel like going a long way. It's very handy, and the food is very good. The staff was very helpful and informative, and asked us many questions. They're very caring. They check a lot on the residents there to make sure they're okay and do all the other things they do. So, I felt really good about moving her there. They have a lot of live music that comes in to entertain. They have exercise programs. They have a swimming pool, a salon, and various eating areas. Lake Lorraine is across the street, so they have fishing, gardening, games like bingo, and card games. They make cards. They have artistic classes. They have a lot of different activities."

"My aunt is in Good Samaritan Society - Sioux Falls Village ALC. She had surgery, and her memory had gotten so bad. She was starting to wander, so we needed a place where she would be safe, and they had an opening. They are a wonderful place. My mother-in-law was in there, and I've also had a cousin in there, and they all loved it. They have a lot of activities. It's very clean. They have bingo. They have all sorts of activities. On Saturday, we went to see her, and she was down at the movies. They have a chapel. They have movies in the chapel. They have puzzles, activities to get together, and devotions. The staff has been so pleasant, so sweet and helpful, just a few times that I've been there. The dining is right across from the chapel. It's beautiful and it's very spacious. It looks really comfortable and homey. We have applied for Medicare. They are very accommodating because her Medicaid is still in the works, and they still agree to take her until Medicaid is accepted."

"The entire staff at PC have been great! I knew the first time I met Carmen, she cared about her residents and their families. She listened and was supportive of my mom and me. The staff have answered all our questions and always have a smile on their face. They greet each resident by name and seem to genuinely like what they are doing! The activities have been helpful for my mom and I look forward to seeing my mom get more involved at Prairie Crossings. Thank you all for what you do!"

"Prairie Crossings’ is small and a bit more homey, which we like. I’d say the biggest advantage is that she doesn’t have a tremendous amount of money, and if you have enough money to pay for your first year, they will let you stay and go on from there. The rooms are not very large, but sufficient, and the bathrooms are nice and large. There is an easy way to get in through a little patio on the outside, so they can sit there. It’s very nice and clean. The staff is very helpful and kind. They have something going on, like a lady that comes in and does hair. They have a manicurist, entertainment that comes in, trips, and bingo. I am very impressed with the atmosphere: very nice and cheerful. I would recommend this facility. "

"We have already placed my father in The Oaks in Luverne. It's a small enough place that people are very willing to help get somebody to feel comfortable because moving is a tough thing to do. They have a very caring staff and a few of the residents have really helped. They reached out to him and talked to him to try to help him feel more comfortable there. It's in a nice area in a small town versus having him in Minneapolis. He's in a one-bedroom that's spacious enough. It's set up so that the bathroom is big enough for him to maneuver if he needed a walker. It's a very nice spacious-looking place. I would recommend them."

"My mom is currently at Sanford Health Dell Rapids Orchard Hills. What I like most about this place are the fantastic staff, terrific food, and a lot of care. They care about the person. It would be nice if they were licensed to do a few more things. My mother needs thickening put into her water and drinks and they're not qualified to do that. Food is all homemade. The one that's cooking is wonderful. She bakes and makes desserts and everything. They do have activities, but some of them don't pertain to my mother. They have an outdoor area out front and they plant their own plants and kind of take care of it together. They do their nails, they play bingo, and they have cards. I think they do pretty well on activities, which is good because they vary."

"My father was admitted to this assisted living home about 10 years ago. My entire family was devastated that he had to be admitted, but we had no way to care for him on our own in our home. The staff at the Luvurne Veterans Home took such good care of us. They made sure that my father was well looked after, was treated with respect, and also treated my family with respect. I had no fear that he would simply be left to sit in a chair all day - the staff kept him active, and were very warm and caring. As for the facilities themselves, they were wonderfully clean and homey. It felt good to walk in and visit. Also, there were dogs, cats and birds that lived in the facilities and interacted with the residents on a daily basis! That was such a joy to my father as he grew up on a farm and animals have always been a big part of his life. Having a dog or cat wander into his room and spend time with him now and then made him so happy. I can't say enough about this assisted living facility. I highly recommend it! "

"Leisure Living Assisted Living homes seems to be a great place for those who still would like a little independence, yet still need assistance with some everyday tasks. The facility is actually quite small as it only houses approximately 10-20 beds. The smaller scale does allow for the residents to not be over looked. They are all treated like family and each resident is able to get to know one another. The assisted living center provides two fully cooked meals a day lunch and supper, and provides cold cereal and coffee for breakfast. Every Sunday a full, hot breakfast is served. The residents are allowed a small dorm sized fridge in their rooms. However, they are not allowed a coffee pot or a microwave. This is truly one of my biggest complaints because with the technology we have today, they could at least have a KRUPS coffee machine that it won't get hot if its left on. It is nice for the residents to still have that sense of home since they do not have their own kitchen in their rooms, it would be nice for them to be able to offer guests a cup of coffee and not have to go to the community room to do so. "
