Minnesota Veterans Home - Luverne

We looked at Minnesota Veterans Home - Luverne about three years ago. It's a VA nursing home in Luverne, Minnesota. My dad is a veteran, so that was just an area that we wanted to go look at. It was very clean, bright, and airy. There were a lot of common areas to sit and relax. It is a full skilled nursing home. They had physical therapy rooms and a room where they could watch movies, but it was really meant for people that were wheelchair bound or bedbound. For a need's basis at the time, and even right now, my parents aren't quite in the need of a full-skilled nursing home. It just didn't quite meet our needs at that point in time.

My father was admitted to this assisted living home about 10 years ago. My entire family was devastated that he had to be admitted, but we had no way to care for him on our own in our home. The staff at the Luvurne Veterans Home took such good care of us. They made sure that my father was well looked after, was treated with respect, and also treated my family with respect. I had no fear that he would simply be left to sit in a chair all day - the staff kept him active, and were very warm and caring. As for the facilities themselves, they were wonderfully clean and homey. It felt good to walk in and visit. Also, there were dogs, cats and birds that lived in the facilities and interacted with the residents on a daily basis! That was such a joy to my father as he grew up on a farm and animals have always been a big part of his life. Having a dog or cat wander into his room and spend time with him now and then made him so happy. I can't say enough about this assisted living facility. I highly recommend it!
