Assisted Living Communities in Selinsgrove, PA

"Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village is the same as the other place, but a little bit more expensive. They have been very welcoming and are continuing to get in touch with me; others haven't done that. They have invited me to activities happening during the Christmas season too. They have homes that you can buy. Some of them are really large. They also have separate apartments. They have a café too. If you don't like what's offered in the dining room, you can go and buy what you want or, you can fix what you want in your own kitchen. They have a library, a café, and gazebo outside, which is nice. They offer exercises too. They offer quite a few things. The only thing with Buffalo Village is that it is near Lewisburg, which is a very busy town. There's a beautiful university there, but the traffic is quite bad."

"RiverWoods was expensive. It's down along the river. I've eaten meals there with friends. It's perfect, but it's very high priced. The atmosphere was nice and the parking was easy. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They had a little snack shop, which was very nice. If you have lots of money, it's perfect."

"I went to Rockwell Retirement Center. It wasn't a good fit for my mother. It was too large. She would have to go down an elevator to get to the activity room or the dining room and she wouldn't have done that. The rooms were nice and big, and there were lots of closet space and stuff, but it was just too expansive for her. It wasn't a good fit. They have a pool table, but there weren't any activities at the time. I spoke to the receptionist and the director of nursing, and that's all I spoke with. They were very nice. It was well maintained and very clean. I saw the activities area and that was a good size."

"Mother was at Emmanuel Center for about a month, and it was better, nicer, cleaner, and safer. The staff was better than average. I guess, she is in the beginnings of dementia. Her issue is that she would think that people didn’t take care of her in a timely manner, but we as her family thought that they were much better. I just admire the work that they tried to do with the patients. "

"Polk Personal Care Center was very nice. The employees seemed very nice and friendly. It was very clean, and it seemed like they have a lot of activities for the seniors to get involved in. I would advise people to go there, plus I have gotten a lot of good feedback from other people who have relatives in there. They had their own chapel, a beautiful big dining room, an activities room, and a big patio outside where they could go if they wanted to be outside. They had all different kinds of activities, and every day there is something going on that they could do like Bingo or they could go to prayer meetings, if they wanted to do that; there was a lot of things to do. "

"My father-in-law moved to Heritage Mills Personal Care and Memory Assistance Center. What I like best is that the people there are very friendly, and the residents seem very happy. It's a clean facility. It smells very good inside, and in the two weeks that he's been there, he's very happy with how they treat him and the people around him. The staff was very friendly and very informative. They worked with us to help him move into the facility, so they were very helpful and nice. My father-in-law said he likes the food. The structure is an old brick warehouse. It's very nicely done on the inside. One thing that he loves is they have trivia time or Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, and he's blind, so they help him with it, and he's had a ton of fun. It's a happy feeling when you walk in, light, bright, and airy."

"My great aunt had rehab at Mt. Carmel Senior Living Community. She was in rehab because she had fallen and broken her shoulders. She liked it, and she was engaged in activities. It was very clean. They do jigsaws, bingo, and things like that. That's what was going on when I was there. Her situation improved; she was discharged home independently. The staff were friendly and helpful. The facility was very clean, and the grounds are well-kept. I'm not sure how that all works out financially, but I would say it was fair. They got the desired outcome; she was discharged home. It was a little bit more institutional overall, but her room was homey. They do have a beauty/barber salon. We were satisfied."

"North Ridge Center Personal Care is fantastic. The staff is great. The rooms are great, they're adequate size, and very well kept. I wouldn't have Mom at any other place. The food is fine, and the dining area is big enough for the amount of people that they have there. It's a very small place, and it's strictly assisted living. They have activities going on all the time. It's the best place in the area to be. It's out in the country, very quiet, and very peaceful. It's a really nice setting and has a family atmosphere."

"We chose Nippenose Valley Village for Mom, because it's the closest to home. To me, they're top-of-the-line and it can't get any better. They have fantastic meals. They have tons of activities. They have a gym, athletic stuff, classes for seniors, and a beauty shop. It's immaculate."
