I went to look at Serenity Gardens. The marketing person was very nice and knowledgeable. The facility was a little rundown. When you walk in, you smell the urine right away, like a stained smell of urine. The carpets needed to be replaced. The tour was good. The staff did an excellent job. They had a salon. They took you to doctors' appointments. They had activities.

Mom moved in at Serenity Gardens. They are very professional in terms of the care they are providing for my mom. When my siblings and I met with the director to talk about it, she was very helpful in terms of answering our questions. My mom has not complained at all about the food. I know she looks forward to going to the dining area and being with other people. It looks like they are offering good things based on their menu. I know my mom really enjoyed the Halloween party that they did. They did an incredible job decorating the common area where they have activities, and had a lot of really fun activities for the residents. I know she plays bingo and she goes to a Bible study group every couple of weeks.

We went to Serenity Gardens. We liked it, and we thought that would be good enough for my husband and me when we get older. We liked it even for ourselves. It was so nice, and the people that live there were nice. The residents we talked to were very happy with the staff and the facilities. When my husband and I get to that age where we're going to retire, we'll probably end up with separate rooms because we like the place, but we don't want to be in the same room together. The tour was spontaneous. We talked to several residents that weren't planning to be interviewed and we were introduced to the whole staff. The lady there, Melissa, introduced us to everybody. Melissa sat us down, gave us a brochure, and explained everything to us. We went through the whole place. We saw a shared room, which is what my mom will have to get because of her finances. She'll need a semi-private room for $3500 a month, and that's level one. And they'll feed her three times a day, and they'll help her get a bath once a week. That level one includes a lot of things. The surprise was that you got to put $3500 down, which is a nonrefundable deposit. That was the only thing that I didn't like or didn't care for, but they say that goes toward the lifelong activities of the person. Anything that they do for their residents there, they need that extra money for odds and ends for bingo or parties or whatever they want to do together for the residents. There are two places there. There was one for people that wander off, those with a little bit of Alzheimer's and a little bit challenged in their memory. But their facilities, there's just a locked door. They have a protected area, so they don't go wandering off in the road. It's very nice even for the people that can't remember. Of course, the first place we visited was the regular facility for ambulatory people that just need a little bit of help and assisted living. The good thing about it is they will increase their prices like if my mom gets sick or needs more help, I just pay more money. Every time she gets sicker and sicker, I can pay up to level five. They also gave us somebody to contact, so my mom, who is married to two veterans that served in World War II, so she can get aid and attendance, which would also assist her in the money that she needs to live there. She doesn't make enough to go into the place without assistance. I would give them a 5 because, my husband came with me and I said, 'You know what I don't smell?' I said, 'I don't smell pee and I don't smell poop.' That's the first thing I looked for: How does it smell? It smelled good. The food looked good, and the activity sheet looked fine. The staff was very happy there. They introduced us to the lady at the beauty shop. She was supposed to be there for a couple of weeks, and she has been in and out a for a couple of years now because she likes it there. The residents seemed very happy. They just had finished their lunch. They get a hot meal three times a day, and that's important for my mom because she's underweight. Everything was great. The only problem is there's no outside smoking area for the residents, there is for the employees, which I thought was unfair. And that's the only thing I have because my mom's a smoker, and it would be so much easier getting her in a place if she knew she had a place to smoke outside. We didn't eat there. People were leaving the dining area, and they seemed to be happy with the food and there was a menu posted. I took a picture of a menu of the week, and there were options if you didn't like the food on the menu. I think it's pretty good value for the money.

I was very pleased with Serenity Gardens on all levels. It was an ideal place when we're ready to go with that. The staff who took me around was wonderful. The dining area was very nice. The whole place was very nice, very clean, and well kept. I saw the rooms, the courtyard, and the laundry area.

The person stayed late to show us Serenity Gardens, so they definitely have interest in their job there and in taking care of the people. The residents seemed happy and content. It was a little bit older, but there were multiple areas that they could go if they wanted to be outside of their room and somewhere else to gather. The shared rooms were a little bit small.

Serenity Gardens was easy to find. The staff was pretty nice. The person who helped me was friendly, well-informed, and generally nice. The place appeared to be clean and well taken care of. They have a two person shared apartment, but they each have a bathroom. It looked comfortable to me. They have laundry, housekeeping, and entertainers that come in.

Serenity Gardens was closer to home, so it was my first choice. My sister felt it was the best for Mother. The dining room was pretty nice. We were sad when we couldn’t get Mom in there. The surroundings were comparable to the others we visited.

It's great to have such a nice facility close to home. I was able to stop and visit my grandmother on my way home from work. I would often play pinochle with her and her friends. The family couldn't believe how happy she was. We thought she would be sad leaving her house, but the community there was great. She was always telling me about the activities they had planned. I joked with her that she was busier than me. The staff was great. There was always someone there with advice for the family, like when we decided it would be best for the staff to give grandma her medicine. I would recommend this facility to everyone.
