Assisted Living Communities in Catskill, NY

"We chose Ghent Assisted Living for my friend because it was closest to where she lived so her friends could visit. We've also known about this assisted living for many years and it looked like a decent place so that's why we said she would go there. She moved in last month and she's in assisted living. She seems to be doing well and I think her medical care has improved since she went there. All of her doctors are saying that she's doing better. She's not completely happy, of course, because she wants to be home but she understands that's not possible right now. For the most part, they're taking good care of her. The staff seems to be nice, my friend says they are very nice to her. I've had dealings with them too because I go and visit sometimes and they all seem to be helpful. I don't have any complaints there. She says that the meals are good although sometimes they're not that great. They have activities but she doesn't participate in them, unfortunately. They have an activity department and they do things but I don't think she's interested in that. The place could do some updating as it's a little old-looking. It's hard to tell because it's winter but they seem to have some patios and stuff outside. Of course, nobody can go out there right now."

"The staff there is very friendly and willing to help out the residents in that facility. They are willing to hire those that want to learn and have a desire to help others out. There are different buildings for different types of needs and counseling which is very convenient. I also believe everything there is gender separated. There is a large variety of staff, that has a lot of knowledge in the field of special needs and assisted living. The employees go through a lot of training and understand the life of the residents to the best of their abilities, which is astonishing. If you are considering an assisted living facility within the Dutchess Country area, located in upstate New York this would be a great place to visit and do some research on. They have strict guild lines which are adhered to, but are willing to make changes to accommodate the residents of their facilities. Hats off to the Deveraux Foundation on a job well done! "

"My mom was in Camphill Ghent for a while and she was in the assisted living. She stayed there for about 2 years. Overall, it's probably the best place in the world to go. The food is as organic as possible. It's phenomenal. That's where I wanna go when I get sick or old. The staff is friendly, warm, kind, knowledgeable and everything you would want. They're brand new, they're only like 5 years old. And it was also built in a farm field, so they have ponds, ducks, trees, and deer, and everything is environmentally friendly. Everything is organic, they don't even have wi-fi. They have internet, but it's on wires on the ground, so even for people who are sensitive to like signals and that kind of stuff. They have all sorts of art classes, pottery, woodworking, people come in and play music once a week, and they go on tours."

"The Baptist Home at Brookmeade was very close to us. It had a very good reputation in the area as a very well nursing home. It had private rooms and they have well and very enthusiatic staff. It also has a very nice surrounding and setting. "

"My mother-in-law has moved into The Terraces at Brookmeade. We visited a few others, but we liked this one. It's small, the people are very caring, and it's assisted living, which includes memory care of some sort. We've been very pleased. We also live very close to it, so that was another factor. The food is very good, but they repeat the same thing. Older people don't like to make choices, so they always get what's served and it gets monotonous, but it's still good. The activities are not bad, but not great. They have a bus trip that goes to the supermarket or something. They have a beauty shop. The Baptist Home is the nursing home, which is also right next door and my mother-in-law is receiving physical therapy there. She has a one-bedroom with a little kitchenette, a microwave, and a refrigerator, a fairly large living room, a bedroom, and a very large bathroom with her own walk-in shower, and a huge walk-in closet as well as a large coat closet. She gets personal laundry service once a week and they have regular home-sized laundry so that only her clothes are done in the washing machine and dryer at one time. It's not mixed in, in those humongous machines. She gets trash done at least once a day and vacuuming and basic stuff once a week. If something else is needed, it's taken care of, and they take care of her medication."

"I am a volunteer at Hudson Valley Senior Residence. They have become an affiliate of TLCN. Because of that they have a new Administrator. This is one of the few Licensed Assisted Living facilities in the Hudson Valley. They have private showers in every room. They have an activities director during the day and a group of 24 ladies that also do fun activities with the residents during the day and into the evening. The care is excellent. Come & have a look. "Mountain Valley Manor is an excellent facility in a lovely location. The facility is clean and the staff is so helpful, it’s unbelievable. It’s a highly recommended, five-star facility. My dad’s room is clean, open, airy, bright, and very homey, and has nice furniture and a spacious bathroom. It is very nicely set up. They have bingo, exercise classes, strength classes, movie nights, yoga, and a full schedule to keep Dad busy, which he is enjoying. "

"This is a wonderful facility with a caring staff and quiet setting in upstate New York, where there is the relaxation of the country but the convenience of being close by to family and shopping centers.. Very clean and kept up to date, providing a safe environment for the residents, including handicap requirements for those in need. There are activities for the residents and the community is very open and friendly. The complex itself is quaint and small enough as to not give the feel of an overcrowded living situation. The staff and management is approachable, and most problems are quickly resolved and any assistance is quickly given.However, facility has a problem accepting applications and residents from individuals that other residents and their families consider to be extremely bothersome or even dangerous. Some residents have caused problems, including inviting suspicious guests and their apartment being a health hazard for the other tenants. These problems are not always addressed and at times the management takes a too relaxed view of the situation causing even further issues. "

"We checked out Albany Center, an Adult Home. The location is convenient. It seemed clean. The staff seemed nice. I turned in the paperwork; however, I can't get a hold of her. The structure of the building was good. They had like a small hotel-type room. It has a bathroom and living room area. The bathroom is a good size. The safety features that they have are good. They have emergency call buttons in the bathroom and the bedroom. It felt homey when I walked inside."

"I'm in Delmar Rehab right now. I have been very happy, and I have never had any real problem here. They're very understanding. I have had occupational as well as physical therapy, and they are very conscious of it. I have gained a lot of weight over the last few years, and I have lost a lot of weight since I have been here, so as far as I'm concerned, they're very good. I think the staff is very good. The physical therapy is outstanding. They're very caring and very understanding, and they're good listeners, too. If you have any problems -- pain or anything -- they're right on top of it. If I feel like I'm hungry, I can get a sandwich, cookies, or something. I did a lot of my rehab in the room because of COVID, and they wouldn't let you into the hallways. Last month, since COVID is not in the building anymore, they opened the gym, and they have chairs, bicycles, and other exercise things in there, so if you are able to, they will get you on the bike. I also started to be able to walk in the hallways as long as I wear my mask. They're very, very good. Now that the weather is nice, I have seen people outside, and they are able to walk around the building."

"My mom has lived at Island View for many years. It is a nurturing, caring, very personable home. The staff literally treated my mom like family, and would include her in their festivities whether it was Christmas, Easter or someone’s birthday. There are such sweet animals, both cats and dogs that always helped cheer mom up. She also absolutely loved being around the grandchildren that would visit, the joy it brought her helped pull her out of her depression she was in before living there. It is also such a unique place as the owners actually live there and got to know my mom so well and could anticipate her needs and were always so accommodating to her. She started doing things she hadn’t done in years, like crocheting, making cards, painting, and walking around the beautiful property on the creek. She also formed wonderful friendships with the other residents. They helped her with all of her needs, as well as encouraging her independence as much as possible. It was such a gift to find this hidden gem in the Hudson Valley."

"The staff here is always extremely friendly. We were looking for a home that dealt specifically with Alzheimer's care for my grandfather, who has progressed beyond the point of us being able to care for him. I was initially impressed with the look of the facilities; it looked more like a nice hotel or apartment complex than a retirement home and assisted living facility. Their Alzheimer's care units are among some of the best I have ever heard from; they have a layout with allows for those afflicted with the disease to easily navigate the building, with a small suite being a private space, which adjoins with a shared area/kitchen. I spoke with some of the residents there, who all said they were extremely happy with the care, the staff, and the community. It is also right next to the town library, which is really great. My grandfather seems to be happier here than I could have thought given the circumstances, and we are grateful to have an option like that in the area. "
