"My parents lived at Beverwyck for about 10 years, and I was very impressed by the facilities and the caring, committed staff. Staff always knew them by name and were always aware of any major health challenges they faced. Their unit was extremely nice and they were able to live independently but also have meals in the dining area whenever they wished. They made many close, long-term friends at Beverwyck, as there were lots of activities for residents. I can't say enough good things about the Beverwyck and will look for a similar place for myself when the time comes."

"We used Beverwyck for a total of 3 years. My father was a resident there. It was a very warm, welcoming place. It was also very clean and very comfortable. It had all levels of care. The staff's work ethics had a very high standard, they're always available, they were unusually attentive and they answered questions. They did everything to help accommodate my father when he moved there. They introduced him to people and went out of their way to make sure he was included in activities. My dad had a private room. The room had an adequate and plenty of gathering space when family came to visit. It had also a nice outside space. The dining room was very accessible and lovely. You sit in the table with the same companion during meals. They formed friendships. Food was wonderful. My father had to go on a diet, they were very kind and accommodating in working his dietary arrangements. For activities they had yoga, physical exercise, movies, sing-a-longs, music groups from the outside and they take group to the Palisades Theater and entertainment in the city. It was a nice place to be. "

"I am a resident of The Spinney at Van Dyke. I like the apartment setups. They are all like one floor, cottage style, no elevators, none of that stuff. The front and back, it's nice and comfortable. They have a lot of programs, but I'm not really into that. They have a small gym, a clubhouse, and a swimming pool. The maintenance is very nice. Everything is very pleasant. If something goes wrong you just call the office and somebody comes over and takes care of it. The problem is that it is very expensive and it's very hard to be living on a fixed income and live here. So, far as that goes, the rent is high."

"Avila was very nice and we were very pleased when we had a full tour there. We saw the cottages and the apartments and they were lovely. They had different activities. We would be happy to live there. "

"My mother has moved into Eddy Hawthorne Ridge. So far, so good. Unfortunately, I can't really judge a lot of things because there's still not really any activities and my mother is quarantined. I helped her set up her apartment, but then I had to leave. I'm not allowed to visit and she is not allowed to leave her room for 14 days. Her apartment is very spacious and bright. It's a nice apartment. Every staff member we met could not have been lovelier. They were really very accommodating. The garden was very nice; we just got a quick tour. The dining area of course doesn't look the same as usual because the tables are all separated really far apart. It is just that things are not normal. I'm hoping we get what we pay for. It is certainly not the cheapest, but it is not the most expensive either."

"I went to Summit At Mill Hill. I thought everything was very helpful. The lady that was supposed to be giving me the tour was a little bit late getting there. But there was another lady that took her place and took me around and showed me all of the amenities that they have there, which are virtually identical to what they have at the other place. However, Summit At Mill Hill is a newer place and it has a few more niceties that they don't have at the other place. They have a chapel, their library is a little bit larger, and it was a very lovely facility. They just have the continental breakfast in the morning, but they have several different restaurants come in and you can purchase dinner there and it's fine. For what I want, that would be excellent."

"I went to see the Summit at Eastwyck. It was beautiful and if I had to go to a place, I would move there in a minute. Driving up, I was just really so impressed with the grounds and how they were kept up. You can tell a lot about a place by how they keep up with their landscaping and some it was just beautiful. There's a pond, geese were walking around it, and the drive up was a nice curving drive u p to the clubhouse. They were expecting me and I went in, and it was a beautiful clubhouse and entry area. They were just finishing up with another couple of people who were also looking so I sat down in the entryway. The residents that came by were so friendly and introduced themselves. That was a very nice thing and the residents seem to really like each other and get along, do card games together, and so on. The actual tour was just amazing. Their main room has two fireplaces, a piano, and a nice kitchen that you can use any time you want. They have continental breakfast every morning and that's included in the cost. I could just go on forever. They have a beautiful pool area and a workout room. They have a physical therapist who's available by appointment and takes most insurances. I got to see one of the rooms, and it's the director's room because it's full. This place is so popular that all the rooms are taken right now. I looked at the director's apartment and it was really beautiful. It was like a 4-star hotel and yet their lowest price entry rental is only $1800. Of course, there are bigger units and more expensive, but I say expensive but the cost is amazing considering what you get. I just couldn't believe how beautiful they were. There were no loose tiles, no dirt anywhere, and it smells good. They don't do meals there, and that's fine for me. If a person can find a place that does 3 meals a day, I'm not interested in that. I'm not a big eater and not a cook either but they have a kitchenette in the room. Even the smallest rooms or the smallest units are quite beautifully laid out and not that small. I could be very happy in a seven or 800-square-foot unit. The way it's laid out, it's just beautiful. You do pay your heat, which is fine. I believe AC is central as well as Wi-Fi. They have great rooms so I wouldn't even bother spending $80 a month for my own Wi-Fi. Linda was amazing. It was a very warm day, getting close to a 90 so it was kind of grueling for both of us to walk outside. The inner building was beautiful though and just the right temperature too. Not too cold and not too warm. She did not rush me in any way whatsoever. She was more than happy to just continue as long as there were questions or if I wanted to say something. I ask the question because of my dog. I said, "Do you have a dog park here?" and I expected to hear a no. She goes, "Oh, yes, we have a dog park" and we walked over and saw the dog park which is amazing. People should know about that because it's a beautiful dog park. She was not afraid to point out a little thing here and there, maybe a minor con as opposed to a pro. I like honesty about something. They do not offer meals, just continental breakfast, but they do have a program where you would pay for the meal, but they'll go out to restaurants. People will sign up and have meals brought in. Three or four times a month, they do that so that's a very nice alternative. I was not able to sample it but it was the typical breakfast of hard-boiled eggs, pastries, coffee, of course, and tea. It looked very nice, there was a picture online, and it looked very, very nice. This is an independent living facility and not assisted living in any way. You have to be able to be mobile, be it by wheelchair or anything else. They have mobility and accessibility features in place though so anyone who can navigate in a wheelchair would be happy there. I'm not sure if they have grab bars in the bathrooms, but the director that I spoke to, the representative, says that they want to install that feature. That's an important feature. They do have emergency buttons in all of the bathrooms. It was just excellent. I can't say enough good things about it and I didn't take just a little 10-minute tour. We went all over and I was looking at everything, all corners, and looking around. You can't ask for a better place. They have a craft room and a card room. I couldn't believe how wonderful it was."

"I did a tour of The Beltrone Living Center, and I like it very much. I took pictures, and the girl who gave the tour was great. They were just finishing their COVID clinic. They could go to some of the area restaurants, and that people can order out. Bags of food had arrived, and they were waiting to get their food because I was there late in the afternoon. I like the apartment, it's very spacious, light, and clean. But they don't have housekeeping, you have to hire somebody to come in. They have a dining room, and the grounds are lovely. They are right near the Crossing's Park in Colony, and right on the property, they have a couple of lakes. I was very impressed with it, and it's very affordable. I talked to my mother, she hasn't seen any of the pictures yet, but I said to her, "I like this place too", she said, "Oh, maybe I'll go see that." It's going to be tough because my mother does not like that community, as people in her business. They are beautiful, and well-maintained. Their staff, Rachel was wonderful."

"The Spinney at Pond View is excellent. My only complaint is that the rent goes up so much every year. They have a clubhouse here and activities. I love my apartment. I love the fact that my garage is attached to my apartment. They call these cottages. It's like six cottages all put together, like mine is. I like the fact that I get a break on my internet, phone, and television. I only pay $53 a month for that. People go down and do chair yoga, different games, and activities. So, the staff is involved with the people. If there's a need for maintenance, they're here within a day. I wouldn't call the facility huge because a couple of times I went down there, they only had two end chairs and a sofa in front of the fireplace. I think only seven or six people can sit down with those, but then the dining area probably has at least twelve tables, and there are six chairs around each table. So, that's pretty good. There are a lot of people who go down for the activities, and they seem to be happy. It is worth what they want you to pay, but if I could get something similar for less money, I might do that."

"My husband and I toured King Thiel Senior Community. We went and looked at things that they had, and floor plans. My husband and I live in quite a large house, our health is not good, and we needed someplace to downsize. They have gyms and they have laundry facilities on each floor if you don't want a washer and dryer. They have a podiatrist and a physical therapist on staff. The staff was so kind, so caring, and so attentive. They answered every single question. We were there for quite a while talking with them and they took the time with us and explained everything, and we were quite impressed. They have many community activities. They offer golf, bocce, and cornhole. They have raised garden beds if you like to garden. They have every kind of craft room. They take you to all different activities, and to the doctors. There's just nothing that my husband and I would have to leave the building for if we didn't want to."

"I loved Hearthstone Village. I went there last year and loved it. They had a pool, a balcony, and everything there. At first, I had gone to a girl named Allison, and I bonded with her. I liked her. I was just not as comfortable with the gentleman who toured me around last time. Their prices were just too high, too."

"We've visited several places and Shaker Point at Carondelet has become our choice. It's very, very self-contained with a lot of activities, but it's pricey. The rooms have all sizes, but they tend to be rather large and airy. The food was very good. We only met the staff members that were showing us around. They have physical fitness type activities, they have a swimming pool, and they have a calendar of events that they show, including movies, operas, and get-togethers. The room was spacious, we saw a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment."

"We are very impressed with Beechwood at Eddy Memorial. It is very good, and the people are very friendly. In fact, I put a deposit down for a potential unit that we looked at. We had a meal there, and it was excellent. The layout and cleanliness was very good."
