"The Meadows At Glenwyck was a very attractive community and the place was very good. They didnt have any food services at all, but the apartments were excellent. The amenities were very nice, and I guess the only food they have is coffee and breakfast in the morning. They have a swimming pool, craft rooms, they have barbecue grills outside, a gymnasium, and they have lots of activity areas for the residents. The staff member who accommodated me was wonderful, and I would rate her a five."

"I liked Peregrine Senior Living at Crossgate. The rooms were bigger because it's older, and they're doing some fresh updating right now. I liked that it was in a woodsy type area like that. There were a lot of trees and things like that around the building that were smaller than most of the ones I visited. I like that too. It's only assisted living. There's no memory care attached to it. I found it to be a very nice facility. The staff was very thorough, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. She gave me some truffles on the way out, and it was delicious. They had a courtyard. They do have lots of walking paths outside the building. They had little places to sit in the front. It's really cute."

"I toured the Summit at Halfmoon. She was very knowledgeable and pointed out all the perks that go with it, which were quite a few. It looks like a nice hotel. The hallways are wide. There are a lot of safety features for seniors. Everything has grab bars down on the wall. It looks like a railing, but it's nicely done. The movie theaters were spectacular. They have a continental breakfast every day of the week. They have a kind of like something on Friday where you go in any order and have free orders, kind of like a happy hour or whatever you call it. They even have a little chapel. They have a library, which I love because I read all the time. They just had a lot of really nice things. My kids know that I like to do all these things. So, they just thought, I would like it and I would, but my husband has some needs that I just don't want to go back to one bathroom. They have a chef come in on Mondays and they deliver a meal made with some of the restaurants in the area. I think Mondays and Wednesdays, and you can purchase them. I guess you can eat in a great room with it or buy it and take it back to your apartment."

"I toured Diamond Ridge. It was pretty good. The least I like is that the studio apartment was all they had. It was small. I liked their dining area. They had a nice, brand-new dining area. They have redone and done a lot of updating. Their building was good. If I get to that age, I might live there. I didn't have many negatives except the tiny studio they were trying to put in there. And I said, 'No way'. They have three meals a day. They have game days. They have gatherings for football, play cards, and get people together, so they're not alone all the time. They do a lot of activities, and the staff who gave the tour was good."

"Parkland Garden is really nice with remodeled apartments. They get one meal a day and have 24-hour on-duty staff at the desk. Housekeeping and laundry of the linen is done once a week. The layout is nice, and they’ve been doing some overhaul. The dining room is very nice and has a fireplace, and they do a lot of decorating for the holidays. It’s very fresh. They have daily games, special events, a lot of guest musicians, and do things with children, which the adults really like. They have crafts a few times a week, movies once a week, and some exercise classes. They have Wii bowling tournaments; Mom does that once a week and really likes it. She complains about the food sometimes. What I liked about it is that they check on you if they don’t show up for lunch, and you can have the meal sent to your room. "

"Kingsway was chosen by my in-laws because it's 20 minutes away from where they lived and their church is about 5 to 10 minutes away. Many of their activities are still in the town of Schenectady. They want to be in independent living but we liked the building they chose because the people are very willing to help them do everything they need. We had lunch there and it was very good. Everybody we met there was really friendly. We are really pleased with their choice. They will move there in August. "

"I toured Glen Eddy. I was able to get in to see some of the living spaces. The room was very basic but very nice. They have one or two bedrooms, a living room, dining space, kitchen, and a possibility of a bonus room. They have the same thing as the other place has, but I don't think they do a happy hour there though. I think they have assisted living, but no nursing home on the campus. The swimming pool is indoors, and there are outdoor places."

"The Glen Eddy is an absolutely marvelous place. My first impression was, Wow, this is really nice. It looked very good and modern, and the people we saw were very active with games and lots of activities. It was just very nicely setup. They had an art room, a swimming pool with a hot tub, they have a hair dresser, a barber shop, and the restaurant is excellent. It just had a lot to offer, and the person who gave us the tour was very nice."

"My dad moved into Coburg Village. I feel like the people who work there and live there are very friendly. It just felt cozy when we were there. My dad has a regular apartment. It has a pretty big, full kitchen. It has an L-shaped dining room and a living room section. He has the one that has a little alcove off of it and a little patio outside. And then it has two bathrooms and a bedroom. They have tons of activities that go on every day. They have volleyball, cards, and swimming. They have speakers coming in. The kids come in to do Christmas carols around Christmas time."

"I've been to the Summit At Mill Hill. It does not have a restaurant. They served a continental breakfast every morning, and they do send out for food every once a week. I like it very much, but I don't know if I can afford it if the budget will cover it. It's the most expensive of them all. It has some things in it that I will never use, but other people might like, they have indoor putting green. They have a very nice pool with some bicycles to use in the pool. They have a lot going on there and I like it, it's fairly new. It's maybe a year old, or two years old at most, and well kept up. They have a lot of classes and things going on. I liked it, but I don't know if I can afford it. Everything is included except the electricity, but gas, heat, and the snow removal, all that's taken care of. The staff is very helpful, very nice. I made an appointment, and they were there on time, no problem at all that way. They were very friendly and very warm."

"I visited the independent living community of The Beltrone Living Center. I have also applied and will be moving there. It's run by the town of Colonie, and it's very nice. They've been in operation for 25 years. They have suites, and I've put in for a 2-bedroom suite with two bathrooms in the penthouse with a balcony. The living area is much bigger, and the closets are bigger, too. It's next door to a very large park, so I can walk to it with no traffic. I can just walk out the door and go. The staff members were very nice. I was very pleased with them. They have beautiful facilities that are more in line with what I would use. They have a pantry, and that appealed to me because I do a lot of cooking and baking. There's also a very big public library that is very close. I get a membership in the town's community recreation building, which includes a large indoor pool. It has a very large salon, a billiards room, a wonderful fitness room, a big white-tablecloth restaurant, and smaller meeting rooms. They had so much stuff it's hard to remember it all. It's very close to shopping, so I can transfer my prescription account to a store that's practically across the street, which I can walk to. They have a small private dining room if you want to have a private affair and have it catered. It even has a dance studio, a lot of community events, and it also provides transportation. I like that they also had a cafe. They had a lot of things I liked, and the community is very friendly. I was just very impressed with it."

"I loved Hearthstone Village. I went there last year and loved it. They had a pool, a balcony, and everything there. At first, I had gone to a girl named Allison, and I bonded with her. I liked her. I was just not as comfortable with the gentleman who toured me around last time. Their prices were just too high, too."

"My father moved into the Terrace at Beverwyck over the weekend. We chose it for its features, its amenities, and its value. Also, it's a non-profit community. It's lovely; it's like a 5-star hotel. It's beautiful, clean, bright and tastefully decorated. It's the right kind of environment for elderly people who can't or don't want to live alone anymore. Everybody that lives there look happy and healthy."

"My husband and I toured King Thiel Senior Community. We went and looked at things that they had, and floor plans. My husband and I live in quite a large house, our health is not good, and we needed someplace to downsize. They have gyms and they have laundry facilities on each floor if you don't want a washer and dryer. They have a podiatrist and a physical therapist on staff. The staff was so kind, so caring, and so attentive. They answered every single question. We were there for quite a while talking with them and they took the time with us and explained everything, and we were quite impressed. They have many community activities. They offer golf, bocce, and cornhole. They have raised garden beds if you like to garden. They have every kind of craft room. They take you to all different activities, and to the doctors. There's just nothing that my husband and I would have to leave the building for if we didn't want to."

"The independent living community of Beverwyck in Slingerlands is a really great place. It's very, very beautiful, but they don't consider anything but a buy-in, unfortunately. They have everything from swimming to hiking trails, garages, and all kinds of activities. They'll also take you for appointments. I think you have to have a meal plan there, so it's a full meal plan, but it's extremely expensive, and we just couldn't do it. The food was excellent, and the servers were excellent. The facilities were lovely, and the way they served was lovely. I can't say enough wonderful things about it."

"We've visited several places and Shaker Point at Carondelet has become our choice. It's very, very self-contained with a lot of activities, but it's pricey. The rooms have all sizes, but they tend to be rather large and airy. The food was very good. We only met the staff members that were showing us around. They have physical fitness type activities, they have a swimming pool, and they have a calendar of events that they show, including movies, operas, and get-togethers. The room was spacious, we saw a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment."

"I'm going to be moving into Ohav Sholom Apartments. The staff is very competent. The price of course is the deciding factor as well as the cleanliness of the facility. I'll be on the 6th floor. It's a 1-bedroom unit and very spacious. There is ample transportation to all local areas like, grocery stores, banks; all within very close proximity. This is an independent living option, and I'll be doing all my own cooking, etc. There is a small grocery store on site for any eventuality that you may need and there are also laundry facilities. Everything is right there. "

"My wife and I have lived at Avila for the past two years. We are enjoying immensely this experience and our choice to join this community. The dining, housekeeping, and maintenance staff are most helpful and supportive. Joining the Avila community has exceeded our expectations, especially with the many programs offered such as physical exercise, social, and educational activities. If you visit Avila, we would be pleased to have you call us for a first-hand account of our experiences here."

"I'm in Delmar Rehab right now. I have been very happy, and I have never had any real problem here. They're very understanding. I have had occupational as well as physical therapy, and they are very conscious of it. I have gained a lot of weight over the last few years, and I have lost a lot of weight since I have been here, so as far as I'm concerned, they're very good. I think the staff is very good. The physical therapy is outstanding. They're very caring and very understanding, and they're good listeners, too. If you have any problems -- pain or anything -- they're right on top of it. If I feel like I'm hungry, I can get a sandwich, cookies, or something. I did a lot of my rehab in the room because of COVID, and they wouldn't let you into the hallways. Last month, since COVID is not in the building anymore, they opened the gym, and they have chairs, bicycles, and other exercise things in there, so if you are able to, they will get you on the bike. I also started to be able to walk in the hallways as long as I wear my mask. They're very, very good. Now that the weather is nice, I have seen people outside, and they are able to walk around the building."
