Assisted Living Communities in Niskayuna, NY

"I did a tour of Ingersoll Place Assisted Living. The head of marketing, she knew all the residents by name. As she was giving me a tour, she said hi to everyone and they all knew her. It looks like a fancy hotel. It's very, very nice. The dining room looks like a restaurant, it's absolutely gorgeous. I looked at a few studio apartments, and they were very nice. The staff all seemed very nice. When I got there, they were having an exercise class. They were about to go on a trip to visit a farm with horses. The staff talked about another trip where they took the residents fishing. So, they have a very wide range of activities, pretty much all day; different activities. The studio apartments all had a small kitchenette with a refrigerator and a sink, which I liked. The residents, if they didn't have any issues, were allowed to have a microwave. Another reason why I liked them is because it's three minutes from my house, so it's literally down the street. For us, it would be very convenient."

"Glen Eddy is very nice. They also have a lot of activities: painting classes, cooking classes, a pool that residents could use, and they even have Zumba. They have a little cafe where the residents can go down in the morning. It's a little cafe marketplace, so if you ran out of something like paper towels or laundry detergent, they have a few of items there available. They also have graduated levels of care. It's located in a nicer area of Schenectady. It's beautiful. "

"I toured Glen Eddy. I was able to get in to see some of the living spaces. The room was very basic but very nice. They have one or two bedrooms, a living room, dining space, kitchen, and a possibility of a bonus room. They have the same thing as the other place has, but I don't think they do a happy hour there though. I think they have assisted living, but no nursing home on the campus. The swimming pool is indoors, and there are outdoor places."

"My mother-in-law had been staying at Heritage Home for Women for over a month. The cost of the facility is cheaper compared to others in the area. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. They let me know if something is wrong with her or if she needed something. Doctors also came to check on the residents.They had different activities everyday. "

"Kingsway was chosen by my in-laws because it's 20 minutes away from where they lived and their church is about 5 to 10 minutes away. Many of their activities are still in the town of Schenectady. They want to be in independent living but we liked the building they chose because the people are very willing to help them do everything they need. We had lunch there and it was very good. Everybody we met there was really friendly. We are really pleased with their choice. They will move there in August. "

"The gentleman at Judson Meadows gave a very awesome tour. He sat down with my husband and me and explained a lot of things that were beyond what we needed to know. So, that was very helpful. There were just a lot of rules and regulations governed by the Department of Health that they had to follow, which made it a little too restrictive for my mom at this point. The apartments were only 300 square feet. They're very small and you have to eat two meals a day in the dining room, but they sound like they take very good care of their residents. Mom would get very good care if she were there. The building was only nine years old and they had designed it so that residents would not get lost. The rooms were down the hallways in a V-shape. So you would go down one hall, but then you come back to the core of the building. It was very easy to find where you needed to go. So I liked that a lot. They had a hairdresser, they do exercises, and different things as well. It was nice."

"Daughters of Sarah had gorgeous two-bedroom apartments with huge walk-in closets and two bathrooms, but they only had 3 or four of those. They had attendants at the front desk. They had closed circuit televisions. The staff was good and very friendly. They would answer all your questions. They took us on a full tour and showed us all sorts of things. "

"My mother lived at "Willow Park" Assisted living facility for 2 years.Overall a great facility.Big bed rooms.They had private and Non-private rooms.Decent daily meals.They helped my mother out when she needed to take a bath or shower.Very nice staff,helpful,kind.The only negative thing I have to say is,they didn't have many activity's for the residents.My mother had an overall good experience! "

"Promenade at University Place was very clean. Everything seemed to be in working order. The residents seemed to be very happy. The admissions director was very well acquainted with the residents and all the programs. The rooms were modern, but when my husband and I walked down the parking lot, there was one particular resident who was sitting in the parking lot smoking a cigar. I know the residents can come and go as they want, but it was rather unpleasant walking out to your car with the person smoking a cigar in the parking lot. The facility itself was lovely, though. One other thing I noticed, was that it was well past lunchtime, but the lunch dishes were still on the table. That was a little off-putting. I don't know what their kitchen help was like, but it seemed like it was probably almost close to a quarter of two by then that the lunch dishes could have been picked up. Otherwise, the common areas were clean, the residents seemed to be happy and friendly. Basically, it's a good facility. We met the receptionist at the front desk and one of the activities people who walked by, but we didn't see a lot of staff around. That was the interesting thing. They must have been helping other residents at the time."

"The rooms at Beverywyck were lovely. They were of good size. My parents ate there, and they said the food was good. They were happy with the meal. My husband and I had a chance to look at the menus, and they looked very good. In the dining facility, the spacing between the tables was a little tighter, but they could still get people with wheelchairs and walkers in. The only thing I could think of to improve would be to have full generator coverage. "

"Beverwyck was friendly, competent, and informative. The facility seems clean and accessible. One reason I'm on a list is I'm waiting for a particular style of apartment that I like, and there aren't many of them. I like that they have some rooms, like the one I'm hoping for, which have a beautiful view and that was nice. Laurie is the marketing director there and she gave me lots of time. My son and sister were with me, and she was very welcoming of them and explained the money part of it so I could understand it. I liked that there was an indoor pool, that there was a room where they were showing films, and that they were redoing the library. I like a good library. They have a lot of hiking/nature trails and I liked that as well."

"Support Ministries Ahana House is a beautiful facility. It is small and quaint but extremely well kept, and it sits nicely in a good neighborhood in Waterford. When we were considering this place for my grandmother, we were taken aback by the attentiveness of the staff, but thought it might just be a marketing ploy. My grandmother has now been living there for over a year and we can safely say that the service is just as good as was promised to us. The nurses are friendly, knowledgeable, and respond promptly. My only complaint is that it can sometimes be difficult to schedule a visit and consistently meet with the same staff due to their rotating nursing schedule. The food is excellent and the cooks are able to cater directly to dietary needs (and picky eaters!) They do group meetings on Mondays and foster a sense of community among the residents. I've recommended Ahana House to a few friends and plan to continue to do so. "

"The staff is very sweet to my mom and very accommodating. The apartment is very clean and very up-to-date. The food is not too good; she is not too crazy about it, and they are having trouble getting her to go to dinner. The atmosphere is very friendly and very clean. It is pretty, well-maintained, and well-kept; I just don't see anything absolutely exceptional. "
