"Mom is at Embury Apartments at The Wesley Community, and it's been a wonderful experience. The apartments themselves are very well thought out, in really good shape, and they keep them up. They have all kinds of staff downstairs, from a nurse, to social workers, to the people that run the facilities, to custodians that fix and keep everything up for them. There's a café to get prepared food, and if they can't make it out to the market, they can get a loaf of bread and some milk there. So, there's food and support. Food's pretty good, too. I've eaten it. It's a beautiful campus. It's very large with lots of space around outside to walk on. It's an exceptionally good building. The apartment towers aren't very pretty on the outside, but the inside is really great. They have all kinds of activities going on. They have a big library downstairs in the lobby, a bus service to stores, bingo, chair yoga, and sometimes they do movies (although with COVID, some of those have been scaled back). Sometimes during Christmas time, when there's no COVID, they'd have choirs come in and things. My mom is Catholic and there's a group that says the rosary together. They have everything. They take housing HUD that gives the people who can't afford it subsidies, so my mom pays well."

"The Woodlawn Commons had 100 apartments; 60 were independent and 40 were assisted living, all within the same building. The facility is very beautiful and well-maintained. They have a ton of activities. They also had food there that you could choose to eat. They have a hairdresser, different massages, physical therapy, exercises, and little clubs that play bridge, cards, and things like that. The staff members were very friendly and knowledgeable. The price is a little bit more than my parents could afford."

"Prestwick Chase is excellent. The staff who gave us the tour was very well-informed and was an excellent representative. We had lunch there which was competitive with major restaurants in the area. They have PT, massage, dance, history class, a library, and table games like poker and blackjack. It's a very impressive facility."

"We toured the Summit at Saratoga. It was just excellent, like all the amenities, the services, and the cleanliness of the place. They had a lot of community activities, like bingo and movie nights. They had the hairdressing salon right there. They had physical therapy, a beautiful dining room, a piano bar, entertainment on Friday nights, a beautiful pool, and a nice tavern where people would join together, play cards, and drink."

"My tour of Coburg Village was great. I walked in without an appointment because I just did it on the spur of the moment. They accommodated me, so that was wonderful. It's very attractive, very warm, and welcoming like a home. They have two very, very nice dining rooms, and I remember that you can have a certain amount of money put in a card so you can purchase meals in the dining room. Or in your apartment, you can have your own kitchen, so you have an option. They have several different kinds of apartments. It's a very big place. They have cottages. The building is very big. The tour was great. They gave me a map, I sat down with a staff, and she went over everything. I looked at three apartments. They were all very nice, just one a little bit bigger than the other. I saw the dining rooms. I understood what was available. They explained everything. And I saw the activities area. They have a library where you can volunteer to help out. I saw the little gift shop, and you could also do volunteer work there. They have a reception area, sitting areas, and a dining room. It's very inviting, very comfortable, and lovely. It's like a hotel. The only thing there is that it's independent living. But they had a lot of different options for people, which was very nice. There are a few little stores there, but it's in a country kind of area. It's not overly developed, but it's a pretty area. The grounds are attractive, and you could have a car there."

"The Glen Eddy is an absolutely marvelous place. My first impression was, “Wow, this is really nice.” It looked very good and modern, and the people we saw were very active with games and lots of activities. It was just very nicely setup. They had an art room, a swimming pool with a hot tub, they have a hair dresser, a barber shop, and the restaurant is excellent. It just had a lot to offer, and the person who gave us the tour was very nice."

"My tour at Glen Eddy was good. But since my mother's not ambulatory, I didn't like the layout of the place. The staff who gave the tour was fine. My mother was not ambulatory and she was like focusing on aspects of the place that really wouldn't apply to my mother. Like she would show me the walking path, my mother is never going to go on the walking path I explained that to her, but it didn't seem to register. I saw the dining area, it looked clean but I didn't try their food. I also saw physical therapy, which I thought was good. I saw a pool and an art room, and I saw them cooking there. They have everything and I like the security that they had there. They let you opt out of the food plan if you want to opt out. You don't get a whole lot of money back, it's like $200 a month if you opt out, which isn't a whole lot, but at least they give you the option. The apartments and the facility itself were beautiful."

"Parkland Garden is really nice with remodeled apartments. They get one meal a day and have 24-hour on-duty staff at the desk. Housekeeping and laundry of the linen is done once a week. The layout is nice, and they’ve been doing some overhaul. The dining room is very nice and has a fireplace, and they do a lot of decorating for the holidays. It’s very fresh. They have daily games, special events, a lot of guest musicians, and do things with children, which the adults really like. They have crafts a few times a week, movies once a week, and some exercise classes. They have Wii bowling tournaments; Mom does that once a week and really likes it. She complains about the food sometimes. What I liked about it is that they check on you if they don’t show up for lunch, and you can have the meal sent to your room. "

"My tour at Kingsway Manor Assisted Living was exceptional. They're my number one choice right now. It was clean, and the woman I dealt with, her name was Kate, and she was exceptional and very informative. The facility was meticulous. The rooms were well laid out and nicely furnished. They also said that if we wanted to bring our own furniture, we could, which would be helpful, especially for a lounge or something that would make a person feel comfortable. But the whole layout was phenomenal, they're beautiful. The room I saw was more of a studio. They had a social hour or happy hour on Fridays, and they had a book group. I appreciated the fact that the meals can be delivered to my ex-spouse's room because sometimes he would have difficulty getting to a dining area, and that would be an awkward situation for him. The staff that gave me the tour was so poised so knowledgeable and she's a very caring person."

"Hearthstone Village was very nice. I would move there if they had a place available, and it's a little less expensive. The apartments were lovely. We toured the two-bedroom and it was nice, and good sized, and had a nice setup. The staff was very nice, very helpful, and very informative. They have an indoor pool. They've got activities going on. They have transportation services if need be. It's very clean and very nice. The outdoor space was nice. They have a nice property and nice lawns and stuff."

"We've visited several places and Shaker Point at Carondelet has become our choice. It's very, very self-contained with a lot of activities, but it's pricey. The rooms have all sizes, but they tend to be rather large and airy. The food was very good. We only met the staff members that were showing us around. They have physical fitness type activities, they have a swimming pool, and they have a calendar of events that they show, including movies, operas, and get-togethers. The room was spacious, we saw a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment."

"I am moving into King Thiel Senior Community. There's a lot of people around and they're not like old, old people. They're all around my age. The apartment itself is brand new and it's beautiful. It's really nice. It's perfect for me. I like the atmosphere and the people. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is I wanted something with a private entrance, and I don't have that, but that's okay. I'm kind of realizing this isn't going to be such a big deal to me. I also like that it's in Latham because that's where my kids are. The appliances are all brand new. There's a refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer and dryer. I have a huge, huge walk-in closet. It's probably as big as one of my smaller bedrooms. There's a storage unit, too. You pay $15 a month for it. It's almost right across the hallway from where my room is going to be and I'm at the end of the apartment, which is good. There are two bedrooms. They're not huge, but they're good-sized bedrooms. I can get a queen-sized bed with no problem. There are sliding glass doors in the living room and I'm on the third floor. When you look out, you can see deer running around. It's pretty nice. They've gone out of their way for me. They have been great. They also have, I think, three days a week when you can get lunch there for like $3 or something. So if somebody isn't in the mood to cook, they can get it. It's also a time when you can associate with other people. The staff was excellent. She was very, very good. Her name is Rachel. They went in and clean my apartment already so it's spick-and-span. It's really nice. Rachel was even concerned and she said that the refrigerator tilts a little. So she's been on their case and got them to take care of that. So it's like they're right on top of everything. The building itself is only three months old. The first one is in 17, and I'll be in 11. It's in a great area, too. The only thing is you have to definitely put your name on a waiting list. I was lucky that mine came up right away."

"We have sisters who are residents of The Terrace at Eddy Memorial. What we like, first of all, is that the place is clean, which is important, and the staff is attentive. The sisters like the setup of their rooms. There are walk-in closets, and it is very ample. It's not cramped whatsoever. I helped settle a few of them into their rooms, and they were very happy with the arrangements. They get really good care. There's a good activity level. I've heard some complaints about the food, but not a whole lot. For the most part, the food is probably above average. When you walk in, it's very welcoming, with a lot of places to sit and flowers around. The staff at the desk is very helpful. They have an art class, and every Sunday they have a communion and religious service, which is really important to the sisters. We chose The Terrace at Eddy Memorial primarily because of availability and services."

"We are very impressed with Beechwood at Eddy Memorial. It is very good, and the people are very friendly. In fact, I put a deposit down for a potential unit that we looked at. We had a meal there, and it was excellent. The layout and cleanliness was very good."
