"I toured Brookdale Port Orange. I liked the idea that it was new, recently remodeled, and it was all on one floor. The staff was very knowledgeable and appeared friendly. They have some activities that individual residents were involved in. Things that they're planning for senior living, they cover a lot of the bases, especially being able to age in place, because a lot of places don't have that since we have individuals who have more and more health concerns. That's because some of them decide to downsize and move into something like a senior living or assisted living facility. But, to be able to stay in a place where they continue to monitor and maintain things that are necessary for your health, and you will do as you have to to transition into hospice. Everything is there, so it's sorted out in terms of the level of what they have planned. I met the executive director, and sometimes he stayed behind in an office. The building is very clean and well-maintained. Their location was close to a variety of other places, whether it was a Walmart or several other restaurants. The lawn care was nice. I liked the porch and outside that they it covered for residents to be able to sit in, and the place where they have things for individuals to do the gardening."

"Magnolia Manor was my number two choice. They have a lovely place. They've been around a whole lot longer. It's a little older community, but I met with the director, Katherine. She was very attentive to detail. They also have spacious rooms. Their hallways were a bit wider than the other ones we saw, which was nice for residents with walkers and stuff. They have an activities area that she took us to see and an enclosed outdoor patio area that's all screened-in with a fountain. It was really beautiful. The dining area was pleasant, too."

"HarborChase of Daytona Beach was very nice. The people were very friendly. It's very clean and attractive. You felt good in it when you first go in. In the memory care they had semi and private rooms. I would have preferred private for my husband. The semis shared the bathroom, but they had sliding doors to each side, and that made it very small. A private room had a little more space to move around. They're in lockdown, but I liked the idea that they can go out and walk around, and they have quite a large area for them to move around in grass. They even had a little doggy area that if they had a pet, they could take it there. It was really nice, and they were contained so they couldn't just go out on the street or anything like that. It was very well kept. I liked it. They had their own quarters. It was very nice and upscale. They had a little theater. If I could have afforded it, I would've had my husband there. They have a little store type thing. It wasn't like there was nothing to look at. They also take them on little excursions, and they have their own eating area, which was very nice. It was newer."

"I toured Angel Premium Care LLC. Upon entering the home, it is a private dwelling. It was very clean and very nice. She had one other patient in the home who was bedridden. If we decided to go with that, my mom would have shared the room with the other patient. I didn't particularly care for that because it was a male, and there was no separation in the room. In other words, if my mom had gone there, a male could have been in another bed. I didn't care for the fact that the residents mostly have to stay in that one room because it is a private home. So, she is doing a good job. The owner was very nice, but it would not be for my mom. It was very nice on the inside. The owner lives there, so it was kept up. I don't want to say anything bad about it, but for my mom, it's just not the right place."

"I went to Gold Choice Deltona a little early and the lady who was supposed to meet with us was out to lunch. So they found somebody else to give us a tour. It was nice, but it was a little bit more expensive, almost $1,000 more. They showed us two- and three-bedrooms, and those were totally out of league. They were nice but it was not what I wanted and not what I needed. It's clean. However, they need to go with a laminate floor or something else because my mother walks with a walker. I think it's easier for her to walk on solid floors. I think they had a hair salon or a nail salon for the residents, which is good. They have some activities there. We were there half an hour early, so I didn't get a package, and I didn't get the form to take to the doctor or anything to guide me on how to go about it. In the end, when I saw the price, it was out of our league."

"I will be moving into Riviera Senior Living. A lot of my neighbors moved to Riviera, so I thought that might be quite nice because I know a lot of people, plus the fact that it is very, very nice, and everyone seems to be quite happy. What I like best is the condition that it was in because the place where I came from was sold under terrible circumstances and is just falling apart. The staff was very, very helpful and very, very nice. I was with another couple of friends who were also looking, so we all had lunch together, and it was excellent. It was very, very clean. That was one of the things I was very impressed with. The condition of the buildings was excellent as well. The size of the rooms is pretty good, and each apartment has its own washer and dryer."

"I toured Addington Place of Titusville. It's very good, but they don't have any big rooms. The biggest room they have is 500 square feet. They don't have anything built for couples. It's nice. I would grade it a five if you're a single person looking for assisted living. The lady who took us on the tour was excellent, and then we went into the largest suite called the Grande. A very nice lady let us look at it, and it was nice. She had a bedroom, a sitting room, a bathroom, a kitchenette, and a screened-in balcony. They take Medicaid."

"My wife was a resident at Lanyard Manor for more than two years where I visited her almost daily. During these visits (at different times of the day) I never witnessed anything but great care and consideration by Greg and Theresa and the staff. They frequently have a list of potential residents waiting to join them. When my time to need assistance arrives, I hope that I will be able to join the Lanyard Manor list of residents. "

"I toured Sancerre at Orange City. It was very nice, but it was out of my price range. It's a newer facility. Everyone was very nice. The marketing director was very nice. He was a young man. He wanted to let me know he would help me any way he could. It was very clean. I got a very nice vibe from the place. The rooms were nice. They have a patio area, and it was open. They had plants, places for the people to sit, and plenty of parking."

" The rooms were good. They were nice looking, clean, and comfortable. The staff’s work attitude was very good. The food was good. They had a library, a TV room, and they did all kinds of different events every day. "

"Savannah Court of Orange City is so homey. It's a nice place. My father actually enjoyed the place. The people were very nice. The facilities, though not extremely modern, were sufficient and clean. The rooms were nice. They had a nice set up in the area for them to hang out. They had a courtyard inside, a nice viewing area for them to watch TV and hang out, and a pretty nice cafeteria. The staff members were professional, very kind, and informative. I enjoyed talking to them. They seemed like they knew what they were talking about, and they seemed like they cared about the patients that were there."

"My sister is a resident of Blue Palms Senior Living of Deland. It is clean. The nurses are very nice and very respectful. This is the one place that I've never seen so good. I don't know if it's because it's a Christian place; they're very Christian. They go to church a lot, and the pastor is there. There are a lot of activities for my sister. She doesn't have a problem traveling; they take her and help her. She had a stroke, so her speech is not that good, but the therapy there is good. They are giving her physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Everyone there is a hundred, even the maintenance guy. The room could have been a little bit bigger, but it's okay for one person. The cleaning girl and the laundry people come every week. I might put myself in there. The food is okay, very bland and soft, but she eats it. It's healthy food. She has a refrigerator, she buys her own things like snacks and sandwiches, so she's good. The director there is very good, and the head nurse is fantastic. They have bingo and activities where they go out to the beach, the park, and shopping. Everybody seems to like it. They have a big board in the front with all the activities so nobody can miss it, and they also have a board in the room with a sheet of activities. They have a salon there, too."

"We got Dad settled at Marina Isle Assisted Living. He seems to be very happy on the water there. There was a bit of a complication with all the paperwork. I had to make four different trips back to my dad's primary doctor to get the correct form that they would accept. Even though we have the legal form in this house already that was currently signed by his doctor, they had to have their own unique form. I guess different homes have different requirements, but it would seem that if it's a legal document, it should be accepted everywhere. Having to redo all the documents just on their form was a bit on the frustrating side, but once that was done, the people inside were very caring, the nurses were caring, and they've been taking care of my dad. It's great. Its view is fantastic. The administration was the only frustration, but the care has been fantastic. They're 300 square feet rooms. It's adequate for what he needs. We couldn't fit bigger than a full-size bed, but we have his full-size bed, his two chairs from home, and a small fridge. They have three meals a day, which he doesn't need, but he likes to have snacks and stuff down to the little coffee bar. The bathroom facility has a walk-in shower. He prefers a bath, but for people with mobility issues, I guess that's a good thing. The floor nurses have been fantastic and he's developed a rapport and they're taking care of him. I'm satisfied. The staff is friendly. I had lunch with my dad and he says it's been OK. It's cafeteria food but it's three meals a day that he doesn't have to fix, so I'm super happy about that. It seems to be nutritious. They have the ala carte of hamburgers and sandwiches if you don't want their meal. The flexibility is nice. It's not a five-star restaurant, but it is good food regularly fixed and hot and that's what's important. They have daily activities posted on the elevators on the walls. They have tours. They have a bus that takes them around Sanford at least twice or three times a week, to go out to lunches or dinners or something like that if they want to get out. They have boat rides twice a month because they're on the Marina. That part is super exciting. Even for my dad who doesn't like people necessarily, he is starting to enjoy that. That was a big plus for me getting him into a place where he would have activities. I've seen him greatly improve just by having the social activities, availability, and the flexibility. He can stay in his room and just look out over the water and watch the sailboats go by reading books, which he does a lot. It's a good fit overall. Three meals a day, laundry, linens done, baths three times a week, the view, and the social activities, all that's right at $4000 if you're on the waterfront side. I think that's a good value compared to other places around. It seems worth it for us. It's a good place and I'm happy so far for my dad and he seems to be doing well. There are only 70 residents in this place. I like the smaller feel, plus I like the waterfront aspect, something he can enjoy."
