My brother has been living in Winston Park. He's got good support from the staff. The owner of the facility is a registered nurse and she's trained in wound care, and that was something my brother needed. He had five sores when he came into the facility, but she's gotten them all healed, and she's kept them healed. She's done a very good job. The staff is very, very friendly. They listen and care very much about the residents. It's the owner's former home, and she's done a lot of updates to it as far as she's replaced the flooring, painted, updated the house, added air conditioning units, and so forth. She's even added solar power to the house. They serve three meals a day and he's happy with it. The only thing is, there's not a lot of activities. When you only have ten people and those people don't have a lot of interests in common, it's hard to do activities for all. What we did is we bought my brother a computer and a tablet so he can entertain himself. Also, since it's been a residential house and they've had to do adaptations, they have ramps and stuff all over the house. That's a bit of a problem because he's wheelchair bound, and he can't roll himself around, so the staff has to do it for him. The doors are a little narrow too. They are standard residential doors, so when you roll the wheelchair through, he has to make sure his hands are in his lap, not dangling out beside the wheelchair. Still, I think we're getting good value for our money because the staff is very caring, concerned about the residents, and there are four staff members for ten people. Adriana, the owner of the property, takes the attitude that once a person moves into the home, she will do everything she can to take care of them to the end of their life so that they're not going to have to move again.
