My mother was at Limestone Health Facility. I like that if she didn't seem quite like herself, they didn't wait for me to come to the facility and ask about it. They would pick up the phone and call me and say whatever it was that she was doing or wasn't doing. I would go and visit her about twice a week and they didn't wait for me to come in to see her. Even if I had been there in the afternoon and that was the very next morning, they did not have any problem calling me to share their concerns or whatever she was or wasn't doing that they thought should be different. My mom's room was adequate. She was not there very long before she started declining rapidly. They were very careful with lowering her bed so that if she would happen to roll out or try to get out, it was not very far and she had floormats. They took all kinds of precautions as far as decorations and stuff on the walls or knickknacks. If you walked into it, it would look a little spartan, but where she was mental, it wasn't an issue. The cleanliness in the hall that she was in was very good. If I had to make the choice again, I would probably have moved her sooner. She was in rehab at a different facility and then she just moved to Limestone for long-term nursing care. It was better than where she was. I wasn't dissatisfied.

My wife was placed there, after an 8 day bout at Athens Limestone hospital with Sepsis, for recovery & rehab. Because of the infection she was not eating or drinking. At the hospital she received nourishment thru a NG tibe & hydration thru an IV. At the rehab facility, they did nothing to assure that she was nourished & hydrated. They just let her lay there for 6 days until she died. I don't understand why the state allows this facility to remain in business!

My dad had to stay at Limestone Health Facility for a while. It's been a couple of years since the last time I was there to visit someone, my next-door neighbor. It's on Hobbs Street, right next to the Limestone Lodge. They've changed the name of that place too many times. They do rehab there, but it's also a place where people place their parents when they don't want to deal with them anymore so they can live there. It is now called Limestone Health Facility. We visited someone who was there, it was our next-door neighbor, and she lived there permanently 2 years ago. She died there but we went to see her once and it was horrible. The layout was very difficult to find your way around. There are so many different hallways. It was kind of built like a spoke of a wheel, but now and then there'd be a nurse's station. You could get lost in there really easily. It wasn't clean and the smell hit you as soon as you walked in the door. The smell of urine, feces, and just a bad smell. When we visited our neighbor 2 years ago, the staff there walked around with frowns on their faces and when you asked them questions, they didn't know the answers. They were not friendly and they were not helpful. They acted like they were doing you a big favor if they even talked to you. They were hateful. I'm supposing because they didn't like their job. I wouldn't like to work there, either. It was horrible. They had activities when my dad was there, but not when my neighbor was there. I didn't see any activities going on. They had one little tiny room that they call the rehab room and they had a few pieces of exercise equipment. It was, maybe, three pieces of exercise equipment so they can only handle one person at a time. It's a huge place but it was horrible. The lunchroom had big long tables that reminded me of being in school when I was young. They're big, long tables with hard metal chairs, and all the tables were stuck together in big, long rows. The atmosphere reminded me of being in school. The atmosphere was awful. Outside that window, you could see there was a little area where they could go outside and sit. There were a few chairs and benches out there too but I never saw anybody out there. I would say most of the staff was not very nice, but there were a few that were nice. They were trying.

My grandmother was in Limestone for about a week. They were good, the food was excellent, and the staff was nice. They were well staffed, it was very clean, and they had a lot of people there. However, they could use a little sprucing up outside. It seemed to be a very caring place.
