"Right at Home provided my mom with in home care after she returned home from rehab after she was recovering from broken hip surgery. The care givers schedule matched the times that my mother wanted assistance- two hours in the morning and two hours late afternoon for several weeks six days a week. As she progressed in her recovery, she was able to have morning care givers only. Right at Home is flexible in the hours that you have their care givers and the office works diligently to meet the needs of the client. You are not required to have a minimum of hours daily nor a schedule that does not suit your needs as some services require. I would recommend Right at Home, and would not hesitate to call if services were needed in the future. "

In-Home Care Overview: Seniors Helping Seniors Eastern Union and Essex Counties of New Jersey At Seniors Helping Seniors®, we believe care is most meaningful when it’s built on connection. As a husband-and-wife team, we launched our agency to bring compassionate, in-home support to older adults in Union and Essex Counties—delivered by mature adults who truly understand the journey. Our story begins with our parents. For years, they’ve quietly served others—driving neighbors to appointments, preparing meals, offering companionship. Watching them, we saw the power of kindness in action. That’s what inspired us to turn our personal values into professional purpose. After decades in corporate leadership and caregiving roles, we (Matt and Erin Eckard) felt called to build something lasting in the community we now call home. Seniors Helping Seniors® stood out to us for its heart-centered approach: matching active senior caregivers with those who could use a helping hand and a friendly face. We know that choosing care for a loved one can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re here—to offer not just services, but genuine support. Our caregivers are carefully matched for personality, interests, and experience, creating relationships that go far beyond a checklist. Whether it’s help with daily tasks, companionship, or specialized support, our team is committed to helping seniors live with dignity, independence, and joy—from the comfort of home. We’re proud to serve families across Eastern Union and Essex Counties, and we’d be honored to support yours.

"We are using Lares Home Care for my mother. They help my mother with cooking, dressing, and showering. We have been using them for two months now. We chose them because they were very helpful. They immediately responded. They placed someone very, very quickly, and we were very happy with the people that they placed with us. The caregivers are excellent. They're very caring and very on top of things. Communication is excellent. Follow-up is excellent. I have nothing bad to say. Scheduling is fine as well. We have never had a problem when someone had to leave temporarily for a day off or something to get someone else to come out, they take care of everything. It is flawless. I would recommend them. Their caregivers are very nice, very pleasant to work with, very professional, dressed very nicely as well, and very clean and neat."

"The people from Right at Home were great and professional. The head of caregiving did an interview with us and was really great at helping the family work through taking care of my grandmother and making her feel comfortable. We require that the same caregiver comes in every day for four hours in the evening to make dinner for Grandmother, get her ready for bed, and make sure she is comfortable. The management is good and always available by phone. They're a little bit more expensive than other agencies, but I feel that it's worth it. "

"When we crucially needed help, Right At Home was there within two hours. I had never asked for this kind of help for my mom before, because I couldn't figure out where to begin. But when the need is pressing, I think you research faster. We Googled "West Orange at home care" and up their website popped among others. I made 5 calls. Maeghan and Melodie called me back right away. Their kind voices matched their kind faces pictured on their website, along with a moving personal story about family and excellent credentials. I took the leap of faith, but I felt confident they were the ones. The fact that Melodie and Maeghan are a mother-daughter team resonated with me. Ultimately, my mom had 24 hour care with Right at Home for 7 months. They always went above and beyond. They offered so many acts of kindness during the height of the pandemic, my heart melted. Their nurse at the time even helped get my mom's TV working again. The aides (with whom I am still in touch because they are family now) reorganized and tidied the house, cooked my mom's meals, received food deliveries, and accompanied my mom to doctor visits. They really did A LOT. And it was all so very meaningful to me and to my mom. We will be forever grateful to everyone at Right at Home. They made a huge positive difference. "

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Edison:
| Resource | Contact | Address | Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edison Township Senior Citizen Center | (732) 248-7345 | 2963 Woodbridge Avenue, Edison, New Jersey 08837 | The Edison Senior Citizen Center offers free curb-to-curb transportation to seniors who otherwise have no other means of getting to local medical appointments, shopping plazas and grocery stores or to participate in various senior citizen club activities and scheduled trips. |

There is a recommended contribution of $2.25 per meal. The senior meal program also provides home-delivered meals to homebound seniors, with a fair share contribution set at $2.75. |
| Jewish Family Services For Seniors | (732) 777-1940 | 32 Ford Ave., Milltown, NJ 08850 | The goal of Jewish Family Services (JFS) for seniors is to help enable the elderly to remain safely living in their own homes for as long as possible, thereby enjoying a higher quality of life. JFS provides services to seniors living in nearby Edison. Its programs include Friendly Visitors, a program that sends community volunteers to the homes of isolated seniors to provide socialization to those who have no support system in place. Kosher Meals on Wheels delivers hot and cold kosher meals to seniors’ homes and provides some socialization. |
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
