Adult Day Care Communities in Edison, NJ

"This senior service agency has been around since 1954. It's a private, nonprofit that grew out of a two-year study initiated by community groups studying elder issues. The large facility services up to 60 elders and their families in Union, Morris, Somerset and Essex Counties. The adult daycare, called Spend a Day, offers services Monday through Friday"”9:30 to 3:30, with extended hours possible, from 8 to 5. The people who do best at this facility are those who have any degree of dementia with other symptoms including depression, limited mobility, cardiac diseases, incontinence"”mostly ambulatory, who function fairly well. The staff is very sensitive to the ebbs and flows of daily life and the uncertainties of dementia"”and caregivers here are given periodic training and education. Those interested in enrolling in daycare here are rigorously interviewed and assessed to make sure they fit in and get the services they need. Sage is picky about who is allowed in, so those admitted tend to do well. Participants are bused from home to the facility. Breakfast and lunch are served, monitored by a dietician"”and activities occur all day that are highly structured to keep people mentally stimulated; people appear to be very engaged in the activities. There is a physical therapy and occupational therapy company with offices onsite. Other professionals, such as podiatrists, are also scheduled to come in periodically. On staff, there is registered nurse who monitors participants and administers medication and supervises the aides who give hands-on care. There is also a fulltime geriatric social worker for clients and their families. The one thing I question is the level of family involvement"”for example, some participants who are doing well don't seem to get as much attention from the staff and seem more detached. Sage also runs in-home services; participants must be 60 or older, but there are no income requirements. There is also a homecare division including Meals on Wheels that delivers two meals daily; grocery shopping, errand and bill-paying service; a home repair service to deal with emergencies and repair small appliances. There is also education and support for those who need care and their caregivers"”classes and support groups on various targeted topics. Finally, there is a resale shop and furniture restoration shop on the premises, staffed by retired workers who charge a minimal fee; all funds go back to Sage. Many funding sources are accepted, including longterm care insurance, Medicaid, and VA assistance. The rate is determined by individual circumstances. "

"It is the best adult day care center anybody can think of. They have Medicare, Field Trips, and all sorts of fun games. Also one of the staff member can help with your food stamp too!!!! "

"My mom was at Sea View Hospital Rehabilitation Center And Home. I was very pleased with them. I like them. As for their food, they had a holiday function, and the same people that cooked the food at the hospital cooked the food for that function, so I did try the food, and the food was very good. Nothing was overly done. It wasn't over-seasoned and stuff like that. The rooms were like hospital rooms, but I thought they were adequate. The staff were extremely friendly, very accommodating, and caring. They have activities. They had arts and crafts. My mom didn't do any of that stuff. Her dementia is severe, so her ability to do that stuff was not good. I had problems with them, but they were still accommodating in trying to address them. I also liked the fact that the entire staff that deals with the patient would have a meeting with the family. They would tell them what they were doing with the patient and stuff like that, and then they would have feedback or comments or whatever the case may be. I thought that was nice of them to do that. There's no set time that you have to be there. They do COVID testing every 24 hours for visitors, which I thought was a good thing also. I was pleased with them. I also talked to patients at times and asked them how they like the place, and even they were pleased to be there. "

"Bayshore Health Care Center is excellent. I would recommend them to other people, but the food was typical. That was one of their downfalls. I'm diabetic and they had some difficulties understanding what I could and couldn't eat, but if you asked for something else, they would gladly to fix you something. The room was immaculate. I'm a bariatric patient so they gave me a private room. They brought in a special bed for me. Each room has a bathroom. They do have long term care where those rooms have sitting rooms. "

"The staff is awesome! They really love taking care of the elderly and they do a great job. They keep them safe, clean, well fed and stimulated. You feel welcome from moment you park your car out front of center. Everyone is there to help you and I love the attention they give their clients and me. "

"A very active place to be. Was surprised by the level of attention that the staff provided, hard to find these days. Visited on a day with live entertainment and it was great! "

"Happy Days is located in the downtown area where everything is only like three blocks from city hall and Lincoln Park is right across. The citizens have a chance to get out and get some air in the park where the security can see them. If there are some functions going on in the summer time, they'll be able to enjoy in the park. If they don't have anyone to come and take them out, it's right across the street. There are ramps for patients who are not able to walk to the first stop light from the building. It's very convenient if you have a problem with getting around. The only thing is that Broad Street is a wide business street. It's a very nice building and it's high rise, maybe about 10 stories. They have nice facilities for the patients. They have a day care room. The living quarters and the hallway are very clean. It has good security in and out. The staff is very professional. They have activities for the residents and they also have a nurse on premises. If you have a medical problem, you're going to have to ring the bell and someone will be there waiting for you. Everything you need is right there. It's not a facility where they serve you. A lot of residents are able to cook their own food. My friend who lived there cooked. "

"I love this place! Everyone looks happy here. The best service, great activities and nice food. Polite attitude from staff and very friendly atmosphere. What else do you need? I forgot to mention nice transportation from home and back to home. Also they provide buses for shopping and in summer time to NJ shore. You come here and spend several hours, as in your best dream, with friends and relatives. I am very glad to be here and very grateful for everything!"

"Transportation is really bad, the males do their jobs, but not the females, they don't like to get off the bus and constantly using their Mobil/ phones. No point complaining as they will say to you "we never had a complaint about such person" of course most of the clients are either too sick or too old, how can you expect them to complain, those that still one whole piece will never be treated that way. Also I called twice/ in different occasions of course, to the person who enrolled my mom/as it was kind of late, when we went there and she did not return my phone call not even a day after I called her. my mom left there last week and still my phone call was never returned. "

"My relative has been attending WE CARE for over a year..the staff is knowledgeable and caring, My relative is on Oxygen and multiple medications-the nurse is attentive and her observations are spot on..they are like family to us ..taking care of our relative very well while we cannot..they are trustworthy and reliable..go see them!
