My mom is in the assisted living facility of Avina Living of Milwaukee. They have great outings for the residents, and they have activities they do with them. They wash her clothes and help her with bathing. I like that there's a private room and she doesn't have to share with anybody. I don't like the turnover, but that's the industry. Sometimes she likes the food, and sometimes she doesn't. They have a place on-site where you can get your hair done. There are also stores where you can go buy food and other things.

My husband is currently here. It is very nice. The staff is really up on everything. The therapists, the doctors, and the nurses, we have a staff meeting every couple of months to talk about how he's doing and everything, and I'm pleased with it. I like all the staff and the nurses and everybody. The social workers are really involved and up on everything that's going on with the residents. They're just really attentive. My husband seems to like the food. He eats pretty well. They don't seem to have as many activities going on. My husband did say the last couple of days they had music every afternoon. Somebody was in the dining room singing Christmas music and stuff.

I toured. It was a nice place and I would consider it for my dad. It had a new dining area, there was also a church inside of the building, they have a nice sitting area outside for the residents, and what I saw I liked. The staff was fine, they took me out and showed me a room that was available, a 1-bedroom, and the person from what I recall I don't have any complaints at all.

It was OK. It's a big campus. The apartments were nice. The staff members were friendly and warm. They have big rooms or something similar to a one-bedroom apartment. They also have an exercise room and a community room. They have trips two times a week to different places. They also have grocery shopping, bingo, and church.

It has a great appearance. The rooms and hallways are like a hotel, and the layout of the rooms and kitchens are more so like a hotel than a nursing home. They have a nice dining area, and you get a chance to eat there as part of the room. They ask for a down payment, but at the same time, once you get your monthly room rate, that doesn't change. The staff members are great, and the person who toured us talked about the payment schedule and had good things to give you -- a packet and a folder. Everybody was cheerful, and the place had lots of parking. The place is large though, and that could be a deterrent.

I was in here for the full time that Medicare allowed for broken ankle. I had some problems initially because I arrived on a Saturday and that completely threw them off, and so my wheelchair was too wide and didn’t fit me. They knew I needed a wheelchair, a walker and a chair, but the wheelchair was too wide that I could barely roll it and the walker was too low for me and couldn’t be adjusted because it was broken. And then, I sat on the chair and it went down and wouldn’t go up. So I kept complaining that I needed a different wheelchair, a different walker, and a different chair. Eventually, on Monday I got all the right stuff. It’s a big residential place and a lot of people live in the apartments. This was a separate 20 or 30-bed unit and I was there for a short-term stay, and so I had very intensive therapy every day. I could barely turn around and there was another therapist there, and they really made you work, which is what you’re supposed to do. So I had a little time to do other things than eat and sleep and then went home on time as scheduled. I got excellent care from the therapist but I wasn’t crazy about the nursing assistants. The rest of the staff was very cooperative. The nursing care was good; they listened and did what they needed to do. The meals were always good. There were a lot of fresh fruits. My menu always said diabetic on it, but they never really restricted what they brought me. They have a lot of different pieces of equipment, but they are not the elaborate commercial kind of things.
