I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad moved to The Gables on Pelham. The staff seems adequately sized. They're friendly, concerned, and helpful. He enjoys the food there.

I visited this facility

I toured The Gables on Pelham. They were dressing up for Halloween. All of the members of the memory care and everybody else were engaged. It felt vibrant. They were all excited and you didn't see them sitting around. They were all doing something. Even those in wheelchairs were dressing them up and decorating their faces and enjoying the holiday. The person that did the tour was very courteous and professional. He didn't hesitate to show everything, and everything was done in an uplifting manner. The community was spotless. The rooms were not too big and not too little. It was just right. It was very convenient to anything they needed. It's very uplifting from the time you walk in the door. It was more like walking into a hotel on a vacation.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom moved to The Gables on Pelham. One of the things I like best is that their staff is genuinely engaged in the introduction of new residents to not only the facility, but the other residents that are there, and the opportunities and special things that they have going on on a regular basis. They have published a calendar which is in each resident's room. They have it posted in the dining area where everybody can see what's going on. They use something called "participation bucks" or something that's funny money that they print and give to the residents when they attend one of their special things like American history or a music session or something like that when they attend any of the events. It could be something as simple as someone reading. They are given a couple of these funny money bucks, which they can then use in. It's not really a grocery store type thing, but they have basic things like sodas and snacks and knickknack type things that the residents can then buy with that money, and I thought that was a clever way to help them engage. They're all very engaging, and that includes the maintenance guys. They greet you with a very upbeat and genuine smile and greeting. They have an LPN available, 24/7, 365. They have a doctor there twice a week. They have a podiatrist once a month. They've got a really good system there and a really good setup. My mom has very bad rheumatoid arthritis and she can either call or press the button, the pendant that she wears to get help with medications. They are well staffed. They are above the standard that the health department requires for assistance per resident. There is a set menu per day, but if you don't want that, there's also an ad hoc readily available one that is very quick to whip up, such as soup, sandwiches, salads, that sort of thing. I like the variety of things I've seen. It is very nicely maintained. They have 17 acres and I think they've paved the area that the residents can walk or if they're even in a wheelchair or with a walker, it's a flat paved area. Outside there are raised gardens that they can choose to help tend to. They have weekly offsite luncheons, if you want to participate, they go to the mall, they go to the grocery. There's quite a variety if you choose to participate.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When we began to look for an assisted living facility for my father, we knew we wanted a community that had assisted living, skilled nursing/rehab and memory care all in one place. Our visit to The Gables at Pelham revealed that they not only had all these, but also offered rehabilitation therapy. Employees were exceptionally helpful and friendly and answered all of our questions right from the start. My father is 95 years old and has been living at The Gables on Pelham for just under 2 years. He has made some great friends and has been able to receive physical therapy regularly to help improve his walking. He needs no assistance walking and doesn’t even use a walker. He receives therapy twice a week and it has made a significant difference in his mobility. Not long ago, my father suffered a fall in his room. As soon as staff realized something was wrong, they responded quickly with the Health and Wellness Director, Cynethia, contacting us immediately. She explained the situation and had EMS take him to a close-by emergency room. After a few days stay at the hospital to check him out, he was back into The Gables, but in the skilled nursing section for rehab. The entire time, even when he was off site, Cynethia regularly reached out to check on his status. She is a professional, caring person who exhibits an unbelievable amount of compassion and empathy. Unlike previous issues we’ve had with our other older parents, there was no issue getting him into skilled nursing at The Gables because he was a resident there. The staff was wonderful and made the entire process as smooth as possible. After another week, he was back in his own apartment getting physical therapy to get him strong enough to walk on his own again. Cynethia again stayed in constant touch with me on his progress. She even arranged for his meals to be delivered to his apartment daily until he had the confidence to walk on his own back to the dining room. The entire staff at The Gables on Pelham was overwhelmingly supportive and so many approached us on our visits to see him to make sure we had everything we needed. Many stopped in to see him to check on his progress. Cynethia's team members always go above and beyond in my father’s care. Her leadership is evident in their training. After this incident I am confident that our choice, The Gables on Pelham, was the best choice for my father. Their associates are, in my opinion, among the best, from nursing, administration, and maintenance to marketing. Each associate displays an enormous amount of pride and care. I am forever indebted to them and at total peace knowing that every moment of every day my father is safe and in excellent hands.

I visited this facility

It was bigger and had more people to watch. It was a nice and clean facility, but I prefer a little smaller and a little friendlier place. The staff were very nice. They were excellent. I saw a single occupancy room. They were having a holiday party thing, so everybody was happy, clean, and dressed up in costumes. It seemed as if the residents there in the memory care facility were well looked after. Their building was a bit different. To get into the memory care facility, you had to have an attendant let you in. They would not give you a code number. Someone would have to let you in and let you out every time. It may have been a more secure method, but I didn't like it.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been a resident at Gables on Pelham for over 9 years. Recently, she had a health issue that required the combined efforts of Cynethia (Gables nurse), another nurse (thanks Matthew) , CNAs, Kirk (director at Gables) and family members. Thankfully, I’m happy to report that this issue has been resolved. Cynethia dealt with a lot of documentation during this process. She answered our calls and texts in a caring, professional manner. Devin plans a wide variety of activities and field trips. He goes above and beyond to see that the residents are involved. He and his staff also do a wonderful job with events involving the families. Kirk, the director, is friendly and approachable when you have a concern. He cares for the residents and their families. The CNAs and MedTechs show a genuine interest and concern for my mother. She is happy here and thinks of them as her extended family. Between my mother’s 9 years and my mother-in-law’s 5 years at another facility, I have learned there is no perfect facility. The same is true about schools, churches, and any business. They can’t fix something if they don’t know about it. I can only comment about our experiences. In closing, my mother is happy, safe and cared for.We have made and continue to make many happy memories at Gables on Pelham.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was here for 10 years and recently passed away. I want to thank Cynethia, the Director of Health and Wellness for always being there for "us". I would call and she would immediately return my call and would help in any way that she could! There were some other employees that were helpful, however, Cynethia was the one behind what got done and got done promptly. She is an outstanding, caring person who needs to be recognized. Her job is a very difficult one and she is does an amazing job! She's a keeper!
