"I went to the independent living community of Village at the Falls. They're super friendly, and the person who leads the tours is just outstanding. She's the most pleasant person to speak to and just makes you feel at home. It just felt homey there. Some of the other places that are newer and more modern don't feel like home. I'm getting a 2-bedroom apartment, and the one I'm taking just feels like it's my home. It's such a good feeling. They have exercise every day, and I think the person there said yesterday that they're getting into a new exercise. I don't know if she meant there was a new instructor or something else that's coming in. They have a nice dining room and all their meals are included in the fee, so that's nice. The place is very comfortable. They have just renovated it, so it's all very new-looking and very pleasant. The colors that they've chosen are very good and make you feel comfortable. The first day I met with them, they also asked me to have lunch there."

"My mother has been a resident for over a year. My siblings and myself find the care given our mother to be giving, kind, attentive and thoughtful. "We live at StoryPoint Mequon. It's in a pleasant area in a small town. It's very nice and clean. They take good care of us. They're cheerful. We've been here one year. It's independent living, but they're here if we need help. If we needed a ride somewhere, we have to tell them ahead of time. They arrange what they can, when they can, and they've been quite good about that. Our apartment is a two-bedroom, two-bath because there are two of us, a little kitchen, which we never use, and a small living room. We're hooked up to TV and the internet. It's like living in a small apartment building and they serve meals three times a day. The staff is very friendly, clean, and approachable. They really do a good job of making sure we're OK. I have to get a ride which they will provide and get me to my dentist and my medical appointments. They never turn us down. Once in awhile, there's not enough staff and that's the only problem. The food is always good and they have balanced meals. We have our things we need every day to keep us healthy. The facility is very nice. There's a lot of activities, but I don't partake. I walk a lot. There are nice grounds to walk on for exercise. My husband and I feel lucky to be here."

"I am staying at Sycamore Place. They just bought this place about eight or nine months ago. It originally consisted of independent, assisted, and skilled nursing. But now, because of some technicalities, they have lost their assisted living. The assisted living people had to leave. They gave them a 30-day notice, and that did not sit well with all of us. The main problem is that the people are not happy that they're trying to convert the facility into what they call a multigenerational facility. It means that anyone can move in here with us. There would be no age restriction. Right now, we're 55 plus, but they want to open it up so that families or singles could move in. It's not official yet because we have to go through some more zoning hearings, but that's what they're working on. They're doing renovations. The actual appearance of the building is not bad. We used to have a lot of amenities. Unfortunately, we've lost most of them. We used to have a little grocery store and a health center. It was becoming so dead and boring that many of us on the independent side took it upon ourselves to run bingo and things like that. We like to do things like have tailgate parties for sporting events and work on a Christmas party. We used to have Thanksgiving dinner. We would run fundraisers so that we could pay for it because the facility didn't support it at all. We had sewing activities and used to have transportation in the van to go shopping. We are supposed to get ten meals per month. We can pick on a menu ten different times, and that only includes either a lunch or a dinner. The food is horrible. Sometimes, some of the staff members are very rude to the residents. When we ask them different things, they ignore us. We don't get what we feel is valuable because they don't do anything. The maintenance is very poor. It's gone downhill. The security is very poor. They've got two people trying to cover three buildings, so they can't do it 24-7. They don't do it during the daytime. They do it in the evening, and it's almost impossible for them to fulfill."

"I toured Brookdale Sussex. I liked that it was intimate. I like the floor plan where the residents are close to everything, close to the staff, and close to the dining, and living rooms. Everything's very close and the staff can check on them throughout the day. They're not far away. They're close to all the activities, to all the help they need, and the meals. I just thought the whole setup was very positive. The staff is friendly. The director, Jessica, was very informative, very helpful, and answered all my questions. She is very capable and cares about the people there. They have a lovely porch on the front and then at the back, they had another nice porch, so people could, if they wished to be outside in the warmer weather, it would be nice because then they aren't stuck inside."
