The rooms at The Gables of Germantown are nice and big. They had studio apartments, 1-bedroom apartments, and 1-bedroom apartments with a den. Those are all very nice. What bothered me is they only served lunch and didn't have breakfast or dinner. It was three stories, and there had to be probably 72 apartments in that place, and they only served lunch. They just had coffee and tea in the morning and nothing at night. To me, it's disturbing that a big facility like that with a big kitchen only serves lunch. Each apartment had its own smaller kitchen, but the facility also had its own kitchen. The rooms were very nice, and it was all walk-in showers and no step-over showers or anything, which is very nice. Their staff seemed very nice and very informative. We talked to the lunch cook, and he was a very nice person. They were just cleaning up lunch when we got there, and it seemed they had a full house of people coming in for lunch. It's very clean. When we were there, they were just fixing up a water problem. They had a pipe burst right after we had that really cold weather. They were finishing up fixing the pipe work, so they had some insulation they were working on, and they're putting down the new floor and new ceilings. It was all nice, though, and wasn't leaking all over. They jumped right on it and got it fixed. They had little library nooks with couches, chairs, and lamps. There are several libraries on each floor where you could stop, read books, and sit in a chair, and it was very nice.

We toured The Gables of Germantown. I was pleased. I liked the apartment, and I liked the location of it. I was pleased with the lady who took us through. They had a theater, and they had a library.

My parents are now in The Gables of Germantown. The grounds are very well taken care of. The rooms are very nice and very pleasant. They went out of their way and painted my parents' apartment with different paint colors. They're very kind and generous. The food is above average. My parents get to have their little dog there, which everyone loves. They have a big common area. They have a little store where you can get necessities. They have a library, grilling areas, and a salon. They have underground parking. The staff are very nice and generous with their time.

We chose The Gables of Germantown for Mom because it was close to my sister, and it was a good facility. She's in memory care. The staff has been very receptive to everything we've asked, and pretty much moved every medical aspect and things down to there. We don't have to take her out to go to places. They have reevaluation every month with a nurse practitioner and things like that. I've only eaten there twice with her; it's cafeteria food. They have a very good activity schedule. The facility is very good, clean, and kept up well. They have people that come in and do manicures and pedicures and hair. They either bring them in or they have them there.

At The Gables of Germantown, the rooms were smaller than other facilities. They hardly have closet space or storage space. The assisted living is more for people that have bad dementia, so my husband isn't quite ready for that. From what the lady showed us, the help that I will need for my husband wasn't there; we didn't get to meet the staff at all. The staff didn't show us the cafeteria or the dining room. The rooms she showed us were very clean, but on the smaller side. The place was clean and very neat. When we came in, the doors were always locked, so it must be very well guarded. The patients can't get out on their own at all.

The staff at The Gables of Germantown - Engel Haus have been great. The location is very nice. They have modern buildings and nice apartments, and the grounds are beautiful. It's easy to get there and they offer different activities. The only reason I wouldn't rate them higher is because my sister and brother-in-law haven't been thrilled with the food.

The Gables of Germantown is a beautiful place, and the price was great, but at that time during the visit my mom passed away, so we didn’t need a place for her anymore. With the rooms, they have a full-sized bedroom, full-sized bath, and a kitchenette with a stove and refrigerator -- everything my mom could have loved. It’s very roomy.

I feel that the staff at The Gables is the most impressive. They have on staff, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and nurses always available. This is important so as to keep my grandmother in a routine and able. I also really think that their foodservice area is exceptional. I am a chef by trade so it was important for me to make sure the dining options were healthy and whole. The overall area that The Gables is located is also a beautiful area to take walks among nature, shop in the small community, and to just feel safe. Germantown is a very quaint and safe area, perfect for anyone. The Gables is a bit pricey, however; you definately get what you pay for there.
