I liked Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community very much. It was not fancy and modern, but it felt very homey and nice. I liked the variety. They had many acres of property. They had opportunities to garden, and they had walking paths, exercise rooms, and a free laundry room. They had all kinds of activities. I liked the fact that it was small and it had a very country feeling.

The wonderful thing about Willamette Lutheran is how truly caring their staff are. They help residents feel welcome and at home. My mother-in-law lived there 4 years and she loved everything about her home. It is a very personal place, both staff and residents are so friendly.

Unbelievably caring staff from administrators to office to dining to medical. All were kind and helpful towards my mom and other residents. All staff were always competent and polite. Couldn’t have asked for more – especially for the price.

We went and looked at Willamette Lutheran Retirement. The staff was super great. But the facility needed some updating. It was pretty old like they had dark pink carpet like back in the old days. The furniture was dated. Maybe some people would find that comforting, but my parents did not love that. The outside of the facility was beautiful. It was out in the country, and there was a big lake there. There was also a woodworking shop for the guys. There were a lot of pros to it, and it was affordable. It was one of the lower-priced places. However, we did not love the apartments. They did weird things in their apartments. For a two-bedroom apartment, they hooked three studios together, so you just had three rooms with three bathrooms. It was a really weird setup. They said they had lots of activities. We saw a little group of girls in the kitchen having a little meeting. One thing we did not like about it is that for dining they said that they change who you sit with every day. It was like restaurant dining but when you come in, you don't get to sit where you want. You come in and they sit you somewhere and then they sit somebody with you. They assigned seats, and we didn't like that. We thought if you meet somebody that you clicked with, you want to be able to sit and eat with them or maybe not eat with anybody at all if you want to. We tried their food, though, and it was very good.

The apartments at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community were small, but they had 12 cottages that were larger and had a garage for your car. They were very nice (although there's a long waiting list). It's a large complex. They had a bus that would take you to church services if you like (they have church services on site as well) or to your doctor appointments. They had the main dining room and everyone eats in there.

Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community was great. My mother-in-law loved it. The atmosphere was extremely friendly and welcoming. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and very patient. They have games, they would take the residents to places, they have exercise classes, guest speakers, and a huge nice library. Their menu looked wonderful, too.
