My cousin moved to the memory care at Laurelwood Senior Living. The sales manager there is kind. She likes the place and they had some sales points to it. We have family members that live closer to it and it's closer to where we shop. So, they have no excuse for not going to visit. The layout is nice and the building is nice. The fact that she has her own room and bathroom is just excellent. Every time I've visited, they've been nothing but nice. The meals smelled nice. It made me want to eat there and it seemed like they had something going on every time I was there. I've come and they've been sitting in a circle watching TV. There were still staff interacting with them. So, I give them credit for that. They also have karaoke, Bible study, and somebody who came from outside to do music. The residents were keyed up about going down to listen to the guy who was playing music. Then they had physical activity in the morning. They took them out to sit in the courtyard and that was one of the things that I liked. On Day 2, there was just a misunderstanding, and we're already working on that. The previous nursing home did not send medication with my cousin and she was upset that they didn't send enough medication with her. She does not have her Medicare or Medicaid so they were like "If we don't get enough medication for her, we're going to have to send her to the hospital or send her home." and I didn't appreciate that. So the sales manager said "Can you find her some medication? Maybe she left it at home when she left." Her aide had saved some medication of hers and that's what saved us.

I toured Laurelwood Senior Living. It was a nice, clean facility. They had activities for their clients and they had optional religious services available. They took clients on field trips. Three healthy meals are provided a day with snacks available. They had in-room bathrooms and private bathrooms. We did not meet any of the staff except the admissions person. The person who took the application and everything, we enjoyed her. She was very upfront with her information. She was willing to take the time that we needed to see the place in a clear picture. She spent hours with us filling us in on information. Afterward, we did meet the director of nursing there. Structurally, I couldn't see any issues. Everything seemed to be in good repair and cleanliness. It seemed to me to be very clean and the room that we had selected for my sister-in-law potentially to move into had not been cleaned but was going to be cleaned and repainted before she moved in. When we first stepped in, we felt a little uncertain. But we didn't let that stop us. We went to the desk. A woman was sitting at the desk, but it was not directly in front of the door. So we had to just take it upon ourselves to go over. We were not verbally welcomed, but we didn't let that stop us.

I've been living in Laurelwood Senior Living. It seems very nice here. The people have been very nice and very friendly. They made me feel welcome, and I don't have any qualms about it. The staff has been very nice. My apartment was all redone when I moved in. It has new wood flooring. I love the paint, it's winter white gray. I'm really pleased with my room. They have church services every Sunday. They play bingo several days a week and they play finding words within words. I went to what they call a music house where a musician came in and played an organ and his drums and sang. He got the crowd in with what he was performing. It was really interesting. The meals have been just gigantic. They're fantastic.

Beautiful facility, the cleanest I have ever been in before and not just occasionally every time we go visit it is clean! ALL of the staff are friendly and the love and joy they share with the residents is touching. All the residents seem happy and pleased with their living situation. I would move a family member in a heartbeat if I had a need!

Laurelwood Senior Living looked really nice on the outside. As we toured the place, it was clean. The rooms were very nice for the seniors. We looked at a couple of them where people were already in, and they decorated their own room and everything, and it was real nice. The person that toured us around answered all of our questions. She showed us where everything was and in all the activities they have for the seniors. They have a game night, a bus that will take you to the grocery if you need to go, and a beauty salon (which my mother-in-law really wanted to have).

Laurelwood Senior Living looked like a pretty nice place. It was clean and they had lots of things to do for the people. They have a monthly schedule of the different stuff they do. The lady who toured me around was very nice and very knowledgeable. The studio seemed a little bit small and I think the biggest room just had one small window. It would have been nicer to have a bigger window. I saw the dining area and quite a few people were eating.

Laurelwood Senior Living was a nice community. It was larger than the first one I had experienced. It was clean. I wasn't as happy with the rooms because they didn't have kitchenettes or a closet. They offer furniture like an armoire, a dresser, and nightstand in place of a closet. You can bring your own cart in with the coffee pots and things like that. The food menu was very nice, and there were choices. It wasn't like every week they'd have similar food. I liked that about it. They had a nice activity area. The staff was helpful and answered my questions. It was a good experience. They had a calendar of their activities that they offer each month. They had live music that comes in an movie night. They also have an ice cream social, where the residents can come in and put all their favorite toppings on their ice cream. I wasn't real happy with the room that she would be staying in though. It didn't have a little kitchenette or anything. We would bring our own microwave, our own refrigerator, and those kinds of things. There was not even a closet. I didn't like that about it. That's just the one that the staff showed me. He said they have a two-bedroom place that's bigger, but we don't need that (so he didn't show that to us). There were three stories. The staff during the tour was the cook. He's only been in this position for months, so he didn't really offer me a material package. He offered me one sheet of paper. He's new at this job. It's nice because they bring the food to the residents. They sit down like you would at a restaurant. They ask them what they want to drink. Then they look at the menu, and they tell them what they want from the menu. I was very impressed with the food selection there.

We visited both assisted living and memory care at Laurelwood Senior Living. It was beautiful and clean, and the rooms were spacious. The food and the dining hall or the restaurant area smelled amazing. They had a very nice, clean courtyard, and the staff seemed to talk to the residents like they knew them. They take the Medicaid waiver right away; you don't have to wait. It's very modern.

Laurelwood Senior Living was the only one I visited that accepts Medicaid waiver from the very first day right here in Dayton. It was very nice. They had everything. It was clean, and the people were friendly. It looked like a decent place. The person who gave the tour was very helpful in helping me understand how the system works, which I didn't know before. I looked at the menu, but it wasn't mealtime. They have a huge amount of space around, although they've got a very nice enclosure. I didn't see anything wrong with it. The layout is really interesting because each floor is laid out the same. If they have to move somebody to a different level of care, they are oriented the same toward where the dining room is and everything else. I thought that was rather interesting and unique. The staff was very friendly, took me around, and went out of his way to give me extra information. They have everything at that location. Every floor is set up the same, so I only had to go on one floor. We went on two different floors, but each floor is laid out the same and the top floor is the memory care. That's more locked, I suppose than the others. I didn't go up to the top. I just saw the lower floors. The outdoor area had a very nice high fence around it. It was like a small little park so anyone could go out into that and be safe. For assisted living, they allow their members to have cars and to be able to drive if they were still capable of doing that. I thought that was something nice.

My mother is already in Laurelwood Senior Living. I was shown all the rooms that she could be in, between the assisted living and the memory care area. The facility seems to be nice. I don't see anybody complaining about anything. The floor that she's on right now is not where she belongs, so they're waiting till tomorrow to see if they can move her down to the first floor. So far, it is a fine facility. They've got a professional chef that goes over cooking. They've got the nursing staff that helps out with the people in the memory care unit -- walking around with them, talking to them if somebody needs to be reminded to go to lunch, dinner, breakfast, and things like that -- so they come in and get them. They get different things they do on different days as far as activities are concerned. They play bingo, they sing, they paint, do different arts and crafts. I'm not happy with where she's been placed right now. She was mad when she went when they assessed her, and the questions she answered with I don't know, and that got her stuck in memory care; she shouldn't be in that section anyway. They're going to re-evaluate and hopefully move her.

Of all the places I visited, Laurelwood Senior Living was the least nice of them. It was still very functional, but it needed some sprucing up. It wasn't on the same level as the others. I only met one person, but he was very friendly, knew what he was doing, answered all my questions, and did a great job. They had a salon, workout areas, a library, and a nice little get-together room down by the cafeteria that I thought was kind of handy and nice. The eating area was not quite as fine dining. It was still nice, but it wasn't up to par to the others, but it was nice. I liked the fact that they offer two different items at each meal instead of only one. I thought that was pretty nice because not everybody likes the same thing. Their selection of food, their menus, and stuff that they had posted around for just that particular week certainly sounded good. The rooms weren't as nice as the other places, but they were spacious, and had a good view. They needed a little more sprucing up. We did a fairly quick tour, so I didn't really meet anybody. The parking lot and stuff definitely needed work. They were in the process of redoing the inside and some of the outside, so they're definitely making some improvements.

I saw Laurelwood Senior Living yesterday. I was very, very impressed walking in the door. It was nice and very clean, everybody was very professional. It's a studio that we've seen with a shower in the bathroom which was exactly what I was looking for. The room was a nice size, the furnishings that they put in were very nice, I love the little courtyard that people can walk around in, the dining room was very, very nice, and they had nice menus to choose from. The staff was wonderful, I loved the staff, it was everything that I was looking for. The only concern was I wish it was only one floor because I think it would make it easier for my mom, and now she has to learn to use the elevator. They're gonna let me work with her for a little while when she goes in.

This place is all about keeping the profits up with little regard for the residents. The leadership here is awful and puts our family members in jeopardy with low staffing and dangerous conditions. If you want to know how safe this place is ask how many people have died ? While my family member was a resident they even lost track of a person and he almost died outside. The place always has the state of Ohio in the building. If you love your family member stay away.

My mother moved into Laurelwood some time ago. I must say that she is very happy. She has made many new friends and raves about the food every time we talk. Mom also talks about the fun activities ladies and the nice new dining room. The staff is very receptive and responsive. My family and I can say that we appreciate everything the Laurelwood staff has done during the COVID pandemic to keep mom safe.

I'll be moving to Laurelwood Senior living. I liked it. It was very good. So far, I'm impressed with them. The rooms are decent. It seemed to fit my needs. They seemed to be very caring and they offer activities for residents. The dining was nice. Obviously, I'm happy with it cause I'm going.

Laurelwood Senior Living was an older facility. The residents seemed clean and taken care of, but they were not engaged in any activities. They were just wandering the halls. The room sizes were pretty good. I visited the dining area as well as a common area where they watch television and play some games. The staff member during the tour was very knowledgeable and knew all the residents' names.

We're very well accommodated at Laurelwood Senior Living. My impression of it was positive. It was very nice. The only drawback was that my mother would be in a locked unit with limited access outside of that unit. The outside appearance was very nice. They do field trips on occasion, and they had a salon. The decor inside was a little bit dated, but it was clean and well maintained.

We chose the Laurelwood for my mom. They have a podiatrist. The young lady who took us around was very knowledgeable and listened to the concerns we have for my mom who's going into memory care. The place is very clean. They have a reception desk with a person who greets you. Its a 3-story building so it's a big building and they have the different areas such as an arts and crafts room. While we were there, the residents had pool noodles and they were batting around a balloon. They were playing some really fun music and everybody seemed to be having a really good time there. They have a nice and good-sized dining area. It's the most economical place we could get for my mom.

Laurelwood Senior Living assessed my mother and said she was not a good fit for assisted living at their place. It was very nice, modern looking, and very clean. The apartments were roomy, well lit, and very nice. The dining area looked pretty good sized. The staff who showed us around was very good and very thorough with what we were trying to accomplish at that point. The parking was adequate. The rooms were nice, but there's still a certain institutional feel because you have a group of people all eating together in a big dining room. The residents seemed to be moving around.

Laurelwood Senior Living was clean and the people that I spoke with and showed me around were very courteous and very nice. I was very impressed. The activities were very interesting and it was something that my husband would like. It seemed like a pleasant, cheerful, and not depressing place. It was very uplifting.

We came to Laurelwood as it was my mom's choice after visiting several competitors. She felt the most 'at home' here, and was met by some very kind staff & residents. We made it clear to her it was her choice, even if it wasn't our 1st choice. She's been a resident almost 3 years and the facility is now on its 3rd manager. Many of the staff are kind/helpful, however, find most of the issues around the dining room with its sub par food both with quality & quantity, poor menu selection, running out of food, lack of staffing. I find it sad that this seems to be the same complaint over and over going back as far as June 2015 even with this site. I understand the residents concerns as I have had the food & witnessed being ignored with a request for a 2nd cup of coffee or anything without asking 4 times. Many residents just give up as they know they may never receive it. I try to remind my mom and her table mates the staff is doing what they can, but Holiday, at the heart of it you just need to do more! We keep hearing promises that change is coming from one manager to the next, yet nothing changes. Believe me, this isn't just someone complaining to be complaining this is a REAL issue that needs your attention & someone to 'shop' the community unannounced and have lunch/dinner during the week or (even worse) on the weekend. We try to stay positive for mom, but this has become totally unacceptable and disheartening seeing this for our mom and the residents.

Laurelwood seemed to be very clean and organized. The pricing was competitive. The dining area was well lit, seemed to be well-maintained, and had a welcoming environment. It's also away from the main traffic area. However, the community didn't meet my needs specifically. I was a little disappointed that there was no carpeting in the individual apartments. Instead, they have laminate flooring for ease of cleaning. I was also disappointed that the showers were small, that there were no closets, and that you have to bring your own furniture for all of your own storage.

My father liked it at Laurelwood Senior Living. He could either get a regular room, or if he was able to cook, he could get a room with a kitchen area. It is secure. The meals are excellent, the food is just really good. It has an excellent dining room in the memory care unit. The memory care unit is where he's at and he's doing really well. He likes it there. They come and get him for activities. They came and got him for a men's night and he had steak, onion rings, and a beer. They also had a live band and he even got up and danced. He never complains about anything other than on Sunday, they don't have as much staff. He seems very content there. He is getting to know some of the other people now. He's only been there since mid July and it's working out really well. The staff is just really nice. The only issue is he had surgery the end of July, and they said it would be good to get him there before surgery so he'd be familiar with the place when he got back. When he had the surgery, they wouldn't let him go back until they assessed him. So, he had to go in a nursing home for two weeks just to get the rehab five days a week and it really messed him up to be somewhere that wasn't familiar. He was totally lost. They should've told us that beforehand, because had we known that, we would've gotten senior helpers to come to our house. That way, he would've come home to some place familiar. That was the only glitch that we ran into. We were not real happy about that, but they explained to us that it's their policy. Of all the places we looked at, this was the cheapest. His room is only $2,700 a month. They come in to see if he needs any help with anything when he's dressing, bathing, everything. He's on the highest level of care and that is $2,200 a month, so his total is like $4,800 a month and they even lowered it down for the two weeks he wasn't there. They do all kinds of different things. There are a lot of activities. It's geared more for the people that are there long term. They even have a pool table if he wants to play pool, which is not in the memory care unit. He can have someone go with him to let him play pool.

My parent has been at Laurelwood for a few months everything is very nice room, nursing staff and caregivers. The only complaints I have are the meals they are to fancy and I noticed alot of residents not eating them ,it seems you advertise you have a chef but the meals are either to spicy for the elderly or covered over with something I didn't reconized as nourishing , the residence are wasting food . You need to offer home cook meals such as chickhen, pork chops and ham with side dishes to match , You are losing residence because of the food and residence not getting their meals brought to their rooms when not able to go to the dining room Please make these changes and it will be a nice place to live.

Cannot get anyone to call us back,My husbands mother has been there since july 2014, several staff changes, her health is declining because of her dementia/alzheimers, She needs to be taken to meals & dressed & bathed, she cannot do this on her own, we have been there on several occasions this year 2016 & mom is still in her gown, no teeth, dishelved appearence, & nobody around to make sure she is cared for & getting to meals.Nobody will call us to discuss her care-we self pay & it is not cheap, her care is declining--

I visited Laurelwood Senior Living for my mother. It lacked a little bit of a homey feeling. It was very institutional. The staff was perfectly fine, though. They were all very nice and professional. The rooms were very, very small and probably equivalent to a small hotel room.

My mother has been there for about five months. They will try and sell this place like its a Cruise ship. Hey they are very convincing. The management is horrid. They don't have a meal selection like they promise and its almost always cold and gross. They miss appointments consistently and miss giving out meds. The nurses are rude and will make life hell on your loved one. I took complaints to management and documented our problems and their best suggestion was for us to go somewhere else. We are. Please do not trust these people.

Hi - I'm Katie, I work at Holiday Retirement's Home Office. I am so very sorry to hear that your mother had a negative experience at Laurelwood. Have you called Resident Relations here at Home Office to address your concerns? I'd hate to see other seniors have a negative experience and would like to escalate this to the corporate level. I've passed your review onto them, but know that you are welcome to call them as well at 1-800-370-8331 if you have anything else to add. Thank you, Katie

My parents are in Laurelwood right now. The location and the cost were good. It was one of the better -- if not the best -- prices for what we got. The care seems to meet our expectation and what we needed for my father especially since he was the one that needed the most care. The camaraderie of the residents seemed very positive. The tour was excellent; she gave us a very thorough tour. We threw dozens of questions at her, and she had very good, strong responses. The facility itself was very nice. We liked the separate room where you can get together with family and have a nice meal if you wish.

I think Laurelwood Senior Living would be a great place for my mother-in-law. The staff were very helpful. The room that she would've been in was very spacious and homey, and she could bring in furniture. I saw some who were doing some crafts. It was several levels, and that kind of worried me about her moving around as she would have to take an elevator down to another level where the cafeteria was, but it seemed like it was secure.

The rep person at Laurelwood was very nice. She was very open and willing to work with me. She said she would invite my mom to activities. She would even come out and take some meals for her and get her warmed up to assisted living. They seemed to have a lot of activities. While I was there, they were going out on a nature ride, and I thought that was pretty good. The accommodations were of the average type.

Laurelwood was the one that I had selected because they seemed to be able to make arrangements, cost-wise, on whatever with my aunt and uncle's income. The rest of them were too expensive. The community was very nice. In fact, they had an open house there that I went to, and they had food that was prepared by their chef and it was excellent. The apartments were very nice. There were two rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen. The kitchen was off from one room. The other room was kind of more like living quarters than a bedroom, and the bathroom is in the bedroom. I like that they could split the cost between Medicaid and self-pay. One of them could be on Medicaid and one of them could be on self-pay.

My mother has been living in Laurelwood. It was the only one that we could find that would give her a private room on Medicaid. The room is adequate and fine. We’re having problems with medicine missing and not dispensed for 5 to 6 days. We’ve had issues with them in toileting and personal care. My niece talked to the management but the last two emails were not answered. She was very unhappy with the way they were treating my mother and now they wanted to raise the rent. Most of the staff are very good and very caring. My niece is happy with them but it’s the management that's not good.

My mom moves to Lamplight Inn last week. It is a good size living facility. It has nice atmosphere, very friendly and very clean. They have two or three different vans and busses. They have activity center, beauty parlor, ice cream parlor. They have two meals a day with snacks. They pretty much have a full service. It is working well.

We visited this facility several times in a two week period to show various family members the facility before considering putting our mother there. The 4th time we visited we were spoken to very rudely by upper management. We were told that we had been there enough and that the waiting list was too long (probably 18 months) before she would be considered for a listing. We left feeling humiliated, unwelcomed and quite certain we would not want our mother in a place where stresses and tempers might compromise the compassionate we were looking for. We got our mother into another facility much nicer and friendlier within a month. They did call us shortly after and said they might have an immediate opening. We would not have put our mother in Lamplight after our experience.

I am going to have to say that our experience was not very good. The staff seemed to not be knowlageable able how to care for an elderly person. The medical assistants would miss represent themselvs as nurses however when there was a problem they could not answer your question. Our grandparent become very sick while she was there and before she had even passed away the management called and asked us to remove her personal items because they needed the room for someone else. If I had known that this was the kind of care and compassion that my grandmother and family would receive I would never have used this facility for my loved one.

It was not as spacious. It did not have as many activities and the dining was very limited. They only had a single menu for every meal.
