"The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My grandmother really liked it there. The food was hot, and most of the staff would go above and beyond to make the resident feel comfortable. There was a nice garden to enjoy, and several rooms for activities such as card playing. The only thing that I wish was different, was the fact that there was smoking allowed right by the front entrance, and every time I would go visit her I had to walk into a cloud of smoke. There was also a rehab and workout facility provided. "

"My father entered Golden Living in May of 2009. I liked the facility for the most part. On one side there was the assisted living, and the other side was a nursing home. I liked the fact that it was a place that an elder could spend the remainder of their life. The staff was also very friendly. I think my only complaint was the horrible smell coming from some of the rooms from time to time when I would walk through the nursing home side to get to the payment office. I think there should be more separation between the two wings. However, I understand that these things are to be expected in this type of facility. I also did not care for the color of the walls. It was very pink,not that I am not a fan of the color pink, but sometimes there is such a thing as too much pink. I also did not care for the color of the floor tile. All in all, I think that this facility is probably the best in the area. I think that the best thing about them is that they remain in constant contact with the residents and their families. They treat each and every person like a human being, and give the elders the respect that they deserve. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. "

"My brother is in Portsmouth Health and Rehab. It's every person's nightmare, whatever your picture of what a nursing home should not be is where he's at. It's an old facility. When you go in there, the halls are full of nothing but elderly people and wheelchairs sitting out there with their heads down to the middle of their knees. And that's how they watch them. If you push the button for help, he's lucky if he sees them in two hours. They're supposed to feed him because he cannot, he's not mobile with his hands. They bring his meal there, the tray, and then just leave and never come back to feed him, and they wonder why he gets frustrated when they do come back. I didn't want him there to begin with. It's in a terrible neighborhood. So it's not a neighborhood that I even like to go to at night, even more so during the day. And it seemed like the more I was there, the less they were helping him. So it even got to the point that when he would ask them to do some, they were saying, "Let your sister do it." So I pretty well had to back off because I was doing their job. And that's not what I want to do. I don't want to work in a nursing home. So, if you will do their job, they will let you do their job. Meanwhile, he would call me with problems. I would call up there and nobody would ever seem to answer the phone. Their turnover is horrible there. I was calling over there to have the information transferred to the new facility, and the social services, I talked to her Wednesday, I called Thursday, they transferred for me to leave a message, and when I called that Friday, she'd quit. Out of 91 residents that live there, only seven residents have family visit them. They want you to set up an appointment to go visit your loved ones, and they're still adamant about this COVID. I show up when I want to. I'm not going to set an appointment to go visit my brother because I don't want anybody to plan when I show up, because that's how I can catch what they're doing over there. For the amount of service that you get there, you're still paying too much. It's an old building. It's got old furniture in there. It's a little space in there, and the roommates are not compatible. He was staying there with another gentleman that did not walk, or could talk. And when I set the bags of stuff down to put it in a nightstand, the guy next to us was trying to go underneath the curtain and steal the bags of stuff. And then when I said something to the nurse's aide, she said, "Oh, yeah, he's mean as hell," and I said, "And my brother's here bedridden and you got him stuck in a room with somebody this mean?" They definitely knew my concerns. When they found out that I wanted the information transferred to the new facility, all of a sudden they wanted me to come into a meeting for this care planning. I got in there with eight of them, all of them specialized in something, and none of them do anything. So that was a useless meeting. So I knew right then what the problem was, everybody's got power and nobody's doing the work. That's what all that was."

"Sentera Nursing Center has close proximity to relatives, so we chose it. She's been there for a couple of months now. We saw that everything there was fine and clean. I actually have a lawyer who, obviously for a fee, stops in every couple of months to check on my mom and the area. She is in a double room for more than assisted living. It's for people who need progressive help and for those with Alzheimer's or dementia. The room itself is approximately the same size as where my mom was prior to that. It also has a bathroom. The food is individually served three times a day in the dining area. It's like going to a small or medium-sized restaurant. Part of the nursing care is to make sure they eat. The strong point is they have a wider connection with the hospital, but the downside is things get lost sometimes. It's up to the family members to pay attention to things. In addition, the technical staff are more of a problem; the nursing staff are caring, and I haven't had any problems with them. Where my mother is right now, she will probably stay for the rest of her life because she has Alzheimer's. "

"We found Heritage Hall for my ex-husband. I have been quite pleased with it. It is an older building, it is kept clean, and I haven't seen any patients that are unclean. My ex-husband is not always easy to keep clean, but they take very good care of him. His medicines are taken care of too. They're doing well with him. The food is adequate. It is not gourmet, but it is good, healthy food. They do something almost everyday. They have Bingo, holiday-specific activities, cooking classes, and even a Veterans Day celebration. Today, everybody got Valentine's Day balloons."

"This facility is heavily financed by the local Jewish community. We are not Jewish but we were very impressed with the homey feel of the facility. It was modern and had a beauty salon, great menu and all of the rooms were private. The rooms were large. They had a gift shop and had a high nurse to patient ratio. It was very clean and they had an assisted living facility that was attached to their rehab facility. My mother was transported there after her knee replacement. She had fantastic care and it was quiet and the nurse's were very attentive. I was able to stay with her for two nights when we had a local hurricane come through. They did not charge me for staying there and did not even charge us for my meals. Her linens were changed every day and if she called one of them they were there within one minute. They had a gift shop for their guest. They had a bird atrium and a chapel on the premises. After my mother left and came home they called to follow up on her. "

"My mother-in-law is in Carrington. The care is OK, the people who care for her are nice, and her needs are taken care of. It was always clean, and she was fed, so the major things that were important were taken care of. The bathroom facilities were also kept up. "

"Rehab is sensational. Rehab, with my limited experience, the staff is caring beyond their job. The staff goes that extra step, go out of their way, to make sure their patients aren't just physically better, but they also are concerned about the patients beyond their particular focus. You can't rate the rehab with stars. They do everything to bring you forward and I have a world of confidence in them. I love them all. No reason to doubt that I won't walk out of the facility. "
