"The Goodwin House was excellent. They had classes, a gym, a pool, a lot of outings, and transport to local places. There was so much going on there. The dining area and all of the apartments looked excellent. "

"Very clean facility! The rooms are clean but unfortunately there are two beds per room. Very friendly and caring staff. Dialysis center in the facility. I would have given it five stars if they were not using tap water for feed tube flush and for taking medications while there was an Arlington county boiled water advisory in place!"

"We searched for a facility for my step-mother and visited quite a few places in Virginia and some in DC and Maryland. Without question, Mt. Vernon Nursing was the best we visited. This is a 5-star rated facility by Medicare. The staff and the residents seemed happy and the place was immaculate! At the time we visited, they had a group of musicians playing for the residents...it was so satisfying to watch the smiles on the faces of the residents. Their therapy facility was modern and featured the latest equipment. Definitely our top choice for Mom. "

"My elderly father was there with a broken leg the summer of 2015. I would like to thank the PT (Brittany & Kristin) who were excellent, Jamila Ali, RN who listened to a couple of serious concerns and addressed them immediately, Richard (Supervisor of Nursing) who always had time for me and my questions no matter how busy he was and for Maxine and Sierra as the CNA's. I would also like to thank Nancy Rubel, the SW who was very helpful and compassionate. Thanks for making a difficult situation so much easier for me to deal with. I was always full of questions and everyone was good to humor me and answer my concerns. I would like to thank all of the above on behalf of my father and me. "

"This facility is a hospital, rehab and nursing home that is part of the Specialty Hospital Center. The location, although convenient and close to the highway, is not good; it's a high crime area, although the facility does a good job with security, with a guard and sign-in policy. It is very clean. There are a couple floors of nursing care, which is a plus, since it's small enough for residents to get individualized attention"”and visitors don't get overwhelmed or lost. The rooms"”a combination of shared and private"”are of average size. This has more of a hospital feel than many other places"”and there are pros and cons to this: There is a good staff to resident ratio, and the place is run in a very organized way, but the facility itself feels a bit cold and institutional. The staff members are friendly and professional. And the administration is very hands on"”and involved and interested in residents' care. Because Hadley is able to accommodate residents with higher medical needs, such as ventilator care, there are few activities offered. Some of the nurses I know swear by the food here"”and actually look forward to eating in the cafeteria. It's in a separate little area"”and there are specials highlighted daily. Medicaid is accepted. "

"My mother has been for 8 years. We love that she is here. She was first diagnosed with dementia about 7 years ago. We choose this facility because it was close to home. I knew a couple of people that work here and they were very happy. She was unconscious and doing badly at another facility. Alexandria sent her to another facility because the doctor worked at another nursing home in Alexandria but she was doing poorly. They staff here treat my mom like family. The nurses here are much invested in my mothers care they even came to support her during her daughters funeral. They call me when she sneezes they want to make sure I am involved in her care. Basically she had only 2 trips to the hospital in 8 years!!! Everyone in this building gives excellent care to the residents, I strongly recommend this facility over the others. "

"My mother goes to Leewood for respite. I have nothing but good things to say about them! They take care of my mom, she loves being with them. She's always happy to see everyone and her friends! She participates in activities, she eats very well there and she has fun! My mother is a stroke patient, she is unable to speak many words as well as use her right arm. They are always assisting her and making her comfortable! Amy- the director, always goes beyond the call of duty. She runs a wonderful place, and it shows by the caring nature of her staff! When my mother is in their care, I literally have nothing to worry about! They are our second family, and I am truly blessed to have them in our lives. "

"This is a small hospital that also has a separate nursing home in it. The nursing home appears to be very organized"”and the care is good. Residents, most of whom are seniors, are nearly all satisfied with the care here. There is a day area and a recreational director who arranges for a range of activities that fit residents' abilities. The staff makes an effort to get residents out of their rooms as much as possible. They are also very friendly and good at helping coordinate care. They seem to work well together as a team"”and the take the time to get to know both the residents and the family members. The food is better than most nursing home fare. The rooms are nicely decorated"”clean and nicely painted. There are two residents to a room"”with a TV and dresser; the rooms are more pleasant than most. "

"Located right beside a medical center, this is a small facility offering skilled nursing care and rehabilitation. The parking situation for visitors is awful; there are limited number of spaces"”and few spots in the streets nearby. Most of the residents are seniors, and the building feels secure and safe. There is a day room off the lobby area and a smoking area for residents to sit and congregate. Other than that, there are few activities scheduled for residents to enjoy, although they say they appreciate the snack cart that goes around periodically. The rooms are a moderate size"”with nothing fancy to them, but they are kept very clean. Most have two residents to a room. Because it is a smaller place, there is more of an intimate feel, less like a hospital than many other nursing homes. The staff is responsive to residents and outside caregivers"”and good at following up. They are attentive to the residents and seem to make an effort to get to know family members and other visitors. And the administration is on top of everything here"”knowledgeable about the residents' needs and what is happening on the staff. They are also well organized, with little feel of calm instead of chaos. "

"We visited Greenspring. I liked its location. It was near the things we wanted to go to. We saw the dining room, but we didn't visit any apartments. It was huge, which was one thing that I didn't like about it. "

"They got me in Cherrydale Health Care Center because I need some kind of nursing and rehab. I came here with an IV because I have pneumonia, and I have the IV for other stuff, too. What I like best is probably the rehab people. The rooms are pretty clean. I like the way that they keep everything clean. They are adequate. Some are doubles, and some are singles. I'm not too thrilled about the doubles, though. The food is good. I like most of it. Once we had fish and some carrots, which were pretty good. We had butterscotch pudding for dessert. We didn't have any type of soft drinks. We'll have to buy them out of the machine. They're good at keeping the place clean. They change the bed every day. If you spill something or have some type of accident, they are right there. They clean it right away. They're pretty good."

"We have some friends who live at Greenspring, and they're very happy there. It's huge. From some of the apartment areas and so forth, it's a real hike to get to the central common facilities. It's all indoors, of course, but you almost need a rest stop to get there. All of their units were kind of small, though. The staff was nice and lovely. They got everything, but they are spread out."

"This is my Second time here at Fort Washington rehab and once again everything was great. From my doctors on down to the all the staff. My GNA's in the morning and 3-11 shift have become my second family. Recreational department is really on top of there Game. The care that they give to The patient is great. We went on field trips , play bingo, have cooking class and have arts and crafts. I'm really going to miss them. And let me not forget Maintenance department. Mr Hunter and crew are about there work. One day he stayed all night after a storm knocked out the lights. But he and his team got together and fix the problem before they went home. Last to say The therapy department is on top of the game make you feel right at home while getting better......much love always."
