"My father is moving back into Brookdale Westlake Hills. It is very clean, very nice, the room has just been redone with new floors, it's freshly painted, and it's a good size. They've been very good at coordinating my dad's medical care, his trips to the hospital, and transitioning him to hospice. He was there for assisted living. The staff has been very helpful, very compassionate, and they're very confident. It's one room with its own bathroom, and it's private. They have book clubs, a dining room, there's a good menu, and I think they do music outside."

"I was in Hays Nursing & Rehab Center. They were competent. The staff was fine. The problem that I had with the place was the food. It was bland and not very interesting. It was clean and well-maintained. They had bingo and some group activities. The rooms were too small."

"My mom is in Cypress Healthcare and Rehabilitation. They think very highly about the staff. The staff is caring, they care about the patients. They're really good about notifying me if something happens like when my mom fell, and they made sure that I was aware and family members were aware. Then they continued to check on her that same afternoon to make sure, and they gave us a lot of good updates. They go into her room and take all the equipment for the therapy that they need that day. That's all the activities she's doing right now. They have good things here, and there's also a living center on one side of the hall. They have good equipment."

"My mom was in rehab at Regent Care Center Of San Marcos. They kept the place nice and clean. The layout was very good too. They seemed to have the amount of the staff that they need. The staff was good, and the care was good too. The dining area was well organized and clean. The food was good too. My mom is not a very social person, but she did enjoy doing their crafts. They also tried to get her involved. They have games and they have church services, which meant a lot to my mom."

"My husband is currently staying in San Marcos Rehabilitation & Health Care. I'm not happy at all with him being in the memory care unit; They are locked down for two weeks because they had a staff person test positive for COVID, so patients are in quarantine. It's an older facility, and I was very unhappy with the room he's in. The furniture was ancient, and the whole hallway smelled of urine. I don't know how often the housekeeping might be working on that, but they do have housekeeping in there most of the time. The staff is helpful. There have been a couple of incidents where I call at least 30 minutes ahead of time to make sure he is cleaned and bathed or showered and changed. There are incontinence issues, so I make sure to tell them, to make sure they have a brief on him. There are more than several incidents where they did not do all of the above. I was not very happy because he did have some accidents out in the different visitor sections where there were other visitors present. They receive three meals and two snacks. In his hallway, outside is a little living room area with a TV in there. They do have a fairly new social activities director; they were doing a balloon volleyball. Medicaid is paying for his care, at this point, I am not out of pocket on any money."

"My mother was in several nursing homes in which she almost died several times due to extremely poor care and coordination btween hospice and the nursing home. After yet another hospitalization and near-death we moved her to Texan Nursing Home where she has lived for one year. They provide excellent care and are more like a family than the other places. It is not nearly as pretty a facility as the other places, but Mother loves it and they work very hard to keep her that way. They have bent over backwards for her comfort and needs. I highly recommend this facility. "

"Dad wound up in rehab for a week at Legend Oaks Healthcare And Rehabilitation New Br. The facility was nice and clean. The staff was friendly. There were two to a room, with each one having a bathroom. They had a very good outdoor enclosed area for them to sit, which is one of his main things because he likes to go outside. What I did not like was the reluctancy of the CNA to help get them clean and showered when they are resistant. They have dementia, they're difficult patients, and sometimes you have to be persistent and come back and come back again, and that wasn't happening, so I had to go in and shower him. The physical therapy evaluator was wonderful. She tried to get him to walk with her and use the walker because he hadn't used the walker. The facility overall was a good facility, but the CNA lacked of wanting to assist them. They had a church service on Sunday and we all attended there together. They have a game in their eating space. They have a clothing locker, and for the clients who didn't have a lot of clothing and were probably there long term, the girls came in and said, "Hey, do you need a blanket? Here's a blanket." The meal was pretty decent. He was on a mechanical sauce, and everything was cut up really well. I would give the OT/PT people a five. I don't know what the cost was because he was fully covered by his insurance plan."

"My tour of EdenHill Communities was very helpful. The staff who gave the tour talked to us and asked good questions to help me and also in the process gave me help with some of my thinking and doubts about the whole process. The tour was very clear and not pressured. It was very positive. It was also good because my daughter-in-law was there, and she had seen it, too, and so it was helpful. They showed me a studio. It's just a bedroom and a bathroom. There was a common space, and the people there seemed very content and were talking to each other. The dining areas looked fine. They have a barber area. Overall, I didn't see anything I didn't like. And the one in charge of it was great. I can see why he got promoted to that job. The place was clean and nice. And the floors are the same."

"This facility seems to be cozy and is located in a small town. It has a home/family atmosphere which was quite appealing. After spending some time there, it did become apparent that they may be in need of more staff. There didn't seem to be enough nursing assistants readily available when needed. The cleanliness of the facility seemed to be on the up and up. Meals seemed to be pretty well balanced and nutritious. The activity department was well stocked and had a lot of interesting and exciting activities planned for residents and family members. The overall daily schedule for resident activities was pretty well planned out from what I was able to witness. The employees seemed to genuinely care for the well-being of the residents. "

"Kirkwood Manor is really great. The medical and the nursing staff are really impressive. It is an older facility. The food is not very good, which is something they should improve on. The facility is a little outdated, so it needs some remodelling. "

"My mother was at Sundance Inn, New Braunfels, for skilled nursing rehabilitation. She is not someone that likes exercise, but at Sundance Inn, she enjoyed the therapy so much that she would go there even on her off days. This is a huge compliment to Christy and her rehabilitation team. You all are World Class!!! The facility is designed very welcoming, it is clean and the receptionists are nice and helpful. I visited my mother almost every day and the facility always smelt clean, which was nice for skilled nursing. My mother had a nice room on the 400 wing. She really liked the charge nurse Carrie. Carrie was so gentle, caring, and attentive. It was highly impressive to see the Director of nursing at the nurses station on weekends to ensure coverage in assisting patients; truly a sign of going above and beyond. There is true pride in the staffing at this facility. There was even one evening where I saw the Administrator walking the floors and he was visiting my mother while she was eating supper in her room."

"My aunt has been at Walnut Springs. During the pandemic, I didn't have a great deal of opportunity to check them out completely, but they seem to be much better than the last place. The staff seemed very nice and very competent. I haven't seen their food, but she seems to like it. She was underweight when she went in, but she is eating it, so I'm happy with the food. Her window looks out onto a parking lot, and I can't even hang her bird feeder out there, but these are old buildings, so they work with what they got. They have activities, but she is not a joiner, and she doesn't do that. I got to say that these people, even though everybody is vaccinated, my aunt is vaccinated, and all the staff are vaccinated, they are still acting with the highest precautions."

"The Villa at Marbridge has a program which helps people who are memory retarded or handicapped, and they stressed on that. They treated my mom so good. They had people playing guitars and singing with the people, and I thought this is the life and not just letting the people line up down the hall. It was the best, and it was close to home. What made it good was the people who cared. My mom said the food was OK. "

"I think I had a lot of good therapy at Brodie Ranch Nursing & Rehab Center. The therapists and the workers would come every day and work with me. I got my medicine on time. I tried to go back there but found out that people were having changes with the staff right now and so the personnel who had been in charge didn't call me back unless they did and I didn't recognize the number. The staff, like the nurses and assistants, were really good but there would be times when I would need a shower and ask if I could get in the shower, I would get one but then nobody would show back up. I didn't like that. That was just a little assistance, but basically when I needed my medicine or whatever, I got everything. Those six months were good, that's why they were able to let me go. They thought that I was doing rather better than a lot of the other people. One other reason that I was told to leave was because there was some difference of opinion about my finances and my check, but other than that, it was good. Our breakfast was cold by the time we got it because they had four different sections there. It was about the same thing every day like eggs and maybe oatmeal. It was the same meal with a slice of bacon and that was it. To me, it's a nice facility. The one activity that they had basically for me was bingo. They said they have activities together for the seniors like playing some kind of basketball with a balloon or sitting in the dining room and watching TV, but the only activity I liked to do was to sit outside."

"My mom has been in Guadalupe Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It's really full, and she has her own room, but she pays over $4,000 a month. She pays a lot. The staff members are all nice. I know sometimes they have staffing problems, but most of the staff there has stayed there for as long as I've known them. She doesn't like the food. The facility is always clean and they have activities all the time. They always bring animals to the facility, not just dogs and cats, but different animals like llamas, horses, donkeys, and snakes. They had a Thanksgiving dinner for the families, and I have been there for that, and they let you in to have birthday parties in their family room for the family members of the people that live there. They also do bingo. She just had a regular room and it looks like a regular nursing home. She has a couple of closets, the sink, the bathroom where she gets her shower, and her bed. There's nothing special about it. "
