The Best Nursing Home Communities in Burke County, NC

"I went to Hickory Falls Health & Rehabilitation for rehab. It was good. I had a room to myself, although I think it was meant to be a double. It was a big room with a nice-sized bathroom. The staff that I met were fine. However, they did not warn me that a young man might be sent in to help me up off the toilet. It was a real shock, but I got used to it. The young men who worked there were very professional. I was there for two or three weeks. The food was fine. I didn't have any trouble with it. I never saw any problems. I would recommend it."

"We moved our dad to Lenoir Healthcare. It seems to be a very clean place. The staff is very friendly, helpful and good to this point. They did have a nice activity program. However, my dad isn't really participating very much because of his poor hearing. So far, we have been very pleased and he has been there since the middle of May. I haven't eaten there, but my dad said the food is good. He is doing much better there now. I recommend this facility to others. "

"The staff at Sunrise in Nebo were absolutely the best while my father was there. He was an Alzheimer's patient for 4 years until his death and in that entire time he never got a bed sore. That was because the staff was always attentive, even when work loads were high due to flu outbreaks that happened only a few times. Every time we visited, he was well taken care of, clean, fed, and happy. The nurses all knew him by name and us. Even those who had moved on to other positions would stop us in the street to ask how he was doing. So to me that has to be the best level of care possible and just shows how well trained and caring those nurses were. Thanks always to these people! "

"The reason we looked at Trinity Ridge was because it was 2 miles from where we lived and it was a year old. That’s what we liked about it. The staff was okay, but too busy to help us. The rooms were okay, and it was real nice. The dining room was real pretty. My mother has a couple of friends that live there, and they liked it, and found it was a good place. They have a TV and they have a bus for those who can go out, they do exercises, and they play games. "

"I went to Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Viewmont. They are nice people, and they do a pretty good job. The facilities were nice enough -- not anything fancy -- and clean and spacious for the most part. I liked that the staff working there were really nice. It's a basic, standard nursing home. They have a dining hall, an activity hall where they get together and do singing, bingo, and different games, and have sermons on Sundays. Food is served to their rooms or at the dining hall, whichever they want to do."

"I visited a friend of ours at Trinity Village in Hickory. She's in their assisted living. The place was very nice. It's clean. It's decorated very pretty, and there's no bad smell. All the time, I see on Facebook that they do activities with their people. It's just overall a good place, and the staff was great. They do all kinds of arts and crafts and have all kinds of functions going on for the residents."

"My parents have moved into Autumn Care of Marion. It is highly recommended. The care is very good. I'm in the loop on everything about my parents. They take good care of them. My parents are doing very well."

"My husband stayed at Conover Nursing and Rehab Center. During the time that he was there, he was doing rehabilitation because he had a fall. The rehabilitation I thought was excellent. He was only there for two and a half weeks, but the whole time they made sure that he was doing everything that he needed to be done for him. The staff was caring, like they wanted the best for him."

"My mother was once worked at Abernethy Laurels, though she is no longer associated in any way with this facility. I had the opportunity to visit there on a number of occasions and was always very impressed. Located on Highway 16 near the small town of Newton, Abernethy Laurels is convenient to Charlotte, Hickory, and Lincolnton. (It can be easily spotted from the highway by its charming clock tower.) Abernethy Laurels has a wonderful reputation in the community and I think it is well deserved. The grounds are beautiful, as is the facility itself. From the moment you step into the lobby, you feel as if you are in a luxury hotel. The facility is clean, airy, and incredibly spacious. The walls are adorned with artwork and there is even a sunroom area complete with live fruit trees. Though I don't know a great deal about the activities the facility offers, I know there are a wide variety of fun things available for the residents to do. (I have had the opportunity to eat there, however, and the food was delicious.) Most importantly, is the level of care the residents are given. I am a nurse myself and have known several nurses who worked there. I believe the residents receive the highest quality care in an excellent setting, and I recommend Abernethy Laurels wholeheartedly. "

"I had to do my clinicals for CNA1 class at this facility. I was upset with what I seen. The staff seemed friendly, but you could tell that it is just a paycheck to them. Maybe due to being understaffed. It was almost like the residents was at boot camp. That is there home, and they should be made to feel that way. The facility itself was clean, but the rooms are very small considering everyone had a roommate. The amenities were standard. All in all, if I had to put a loved one in a facility, I would consider other choices. "

"My mother is in The Foley Center at Chestnut Ridge. The staff has done really well so far. They have been remarkable. They do things like her hair, her nails, and her personal hygiene. She does exercises and all kinds of stuff. She also attends church, bingo, and different things. They have really done well communicating and helping me get her squared away. She loves the food there, and they have activities all day, every day. They have plenty to do. They take care of everything I asked for. The facilities are really nice and clean. They do a lot to work with them. I don't think you get what you pay for in any of these places; they're all overpriced. I think it's a money-making racket. They're after the seniors' money, and they get it."

"My Grandmother had to come to White Oak for rehabilitation when she broke her elbow and pelvis. Since day one they started her physical therapy while managing her pain as well as always asking her if she needs anything and making her feel that she is very important to them. They are saying they think that she is doing amazing and at 91 I have to agree. Everyone at White Oak always greets you with a smile, there are alot of caring & compatienent people on White Oaks' staff. Thank you so much, you are all angels. "

"I liked Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation. It was clean. It seemed like it was well run and everybody was friendly and nice. It's just hard getting in there. The room we saw was bright. It had plenty of space for your personal belongings in it. Both people had a TV in the room and there was like a wall in between so they wouldn't be looking at each other all the time. I liked that, too. The upkeep was good. I just wish they would call me back and answer the emails as they promised they said they would."
