We had a good visit at Grace Heights Health & Rehab Center. One of the things we like most about is that it's very close to where we live. It's about five miles away, but because it's a nursing center, the cost differential is significantly different, and we're going to be self-pay. It's very much like the rehab center that my mom is in right now. It's not meant to be homey. Many of the patients need full-time care, but there are areas that are not as full-time care. They have private rooms and shared rooms. The staff did a fine job. I didn't find any fault with anything. My wife and I both do a dance called Carolina Shag, and we actually talked to their recreation person, regardless of what happens to my mom, about having our club come and do some dancing or dancing with their residents, and they were very appreciative of that. They were a good group of people.

We used Grace Heights for my dad because he requires physical therapy, occupational therapy, regular medication doses, and injections. My dad was there for 60 days. They had a full-time MD, physician on-call who was not necessarily on the site, but he was assigned for the entire facility 24 hours a day. They also had skilled nurses RNs 24 hours a day. The grounds were very nice. It was in the middle of a medical complex. It was on top of a hill and overlooked forests, trees, and mountains. It had a wonderful view. You could look out of the side of the facility and watch the sunset. Dad had a beautiful view looking out on the mountains, and he could see the sunrise and sunset from his window, which was really nice. The building was older, but it was well taken care of. It was clean. It was heavily staffed and very efficient. Everything was really great. My dad loved being there. They took really good care of him. In fact, he didn't want to come home. It was fantastic. When we needed to discuss things, the nurse was there. Anytime we needed consultation on higher-up, the physicians got in touch with us immediately and either forwarded information or he would come and visit personally in the room. We felt totally confident about everything, about medications and things like that. We asked about insulin, and I said: "You know he has never been on insulin before," and they listened to me, took my advice, and said "Okay. We'll monitor. We'll talk to the doctor. We'll get his consultation, get his idea, and get back to you. We'll monitor. We'll try and ease him off the insulin and adjust his blood sugar by diet. We'll boost his exercise a little bit." They channeled my request to all the departments required in order to make that shift, and I was very impressed with that. They actually listened to me. I would recommend them to friends and family.

I was pleased with Grace Heights Health & Rehab. I have several friends that stay over there. The staff was very knowledgeable and very nice. The rooms are good size, the common areas are very nice, and it seemed like a very clean facility. But they're very expensive for me.
