I am/was a resident of this facility

If you care about someone that needs a rehab, DON'T send them here! Nurses were terrible & did not give me my meds when they were supposed to. Food was terrible. Poorly run. Thanks to them, I got COVID because nurses did not follow proper protocols! I had never had COVID before. I couldn't get out of there fast enough

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The hospital has put my mom into The Pines at Poughkeepsie Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. They've had to move her a few different times, but she's on a floor now where she has 24-hour monitoring. Her mind is pretty not there, but she's still able to get up and move around a little bit, so they have to really watch her, and they have to take care of her a lot. It's a rehab/nursing home, and it has four floors. One floor is for rehabilitation, and then another floor is for like people that need help, but they can do stuff themselves. It goes different levels like as your mind goes. It's nice for being in the city. It's set in like a wooded setting, so it's nice. It's not a city setting, even though it's in the city of Poughkeepsie. The staff have really been great. Everybody has been friendly and quite helpful. My mom had gone there for rehab, and when I brought her home, she needed a shot, and this medicine costs $1,500. Now, we could not afford it, so I called The Pines and the head nurse, and they had given me all of her medications that they had left because it was all done in her name, so everything that they had they gave to me (except for that shot). Well, a day later, the nurse called upstairs to the floor my mom was on and asked if they had sent it back down to the pharmacy yet, and they had not, and it was still up in the refrigerator with my mom's name on it. This nurse went and got that medication and drove it 45 minutes one way to my mom's house and gave her that injection she needed. That was like above and beyond. She's the head of the nurses in that building. I haven't eaten there, but I've seen what my mother has gotten, and they definitely give very nice meals there. When they ask for snacks, like my mom wanted something sweet, she wanted a cookie, the nurse went and got her two individually wrapped cookies and brought them to her. As for activities, they were doing a barbecue for the people that could do it. One day last week when I was there, they had all these little old people in their wheelchairs outside having a barbecue. My mom is at a level where she really can't do any activities, but they do have some very nice activities. Once a month, they have this thing in the foyer when you go in and some of these people set up a stand and they have this big popcorn machine with popcorn, and they bag it like all these little individual snacks, and all the money that they earn from that goes for the patients' activity. That's really nice. They do a lot for them. The rooms are a little small, and there are two beds to a room. You just get a dresser and a little stand-up closet, and then you have to share a bathroom with no shower. The showers are out in the hallway. But the facility is nice, and they do a lot of activities with the residents that can do activities. My brother takes care of all the financials, but I know it is very expensive.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was sent there for pt after a back injury .Vassar seemed to push the place although it wasnt one of my choices.I needed help so i gave it a chance first night was awfull they were not honest about the pain medications I was not recieving and the bed apeared to be something i remembered from hospitals as a kid in the seventies not to mention it smelled like a rundown budget motel.I woke up in way more pain than i went in with felt bars comming through the matress all night the next day was no better lied to all day about meds and repediatly told we called dr. I got sick to my stomach and waited 45 mins for someone to answer my call for help. their covid safety precautions were not satisfactory either as a person who medically cant be vaccinated they moved someone in my room 3 feet away from my bed who wasnt vaccinated either. please dont send your loved one here it was the worst experience I ever had I had to have family carry me home for my safety against medical advice.

My mother-in-law was in The Pines at Poughkeepsie Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. I didn't like the cleanliness, I didn't think they gave her any kind of rehab to help her. The food and stuff was fine. The patients definitely need some kind of rehab, whether it's OT/PT, something to keep them mobile and not so stiff, and they need more activities for the residents. They're not trying to get them to participate in anything. Her room was basic, it wasn't that clean, the floors could have been swept.

I visited this facility

They tell you wonderful things before you put your family there and they do nothing what they say. They say 6 days of rehab and no one come at all Saturday and very few times during the week. Then they tell you that you need more time there. When you ring bell for help nobody ever comes and I witnessed that first hand.

My step-father was at The Pines for a few weeks for rehabilitation. He progressed rapidly with his rehab and seemed to like what was being done. When he pressed the call button for a nurse or aid, they came pretty quickly. The social workers sat and talked to me and kept me informed of his progress. When I asked for a lift bar to be attached to the bed so he could lift himself to get out of the bed, it was there and in place the next day. He did not complain about the food. There was only one nurse/aid that was rude. All the rest of them were very helpful and nice. The rooms are a little on the small side, but manageable. There were bags for laundry for each resident hung on the wall. He had clean clothes on every day. The place seemed clean and neat. Nothing got stolen or mysteriously disappeared as in other nursing homes, including his laptop and wallet. I would recommend this facility for others. The important part of having your loved ones in any facility is to visit them regularly and speak with the staff and social workers on a regular basis.

The Pines at Poughkeepsie seems to be on top of things. They helped hook me up with additional services, my Medicaid application, and a program that works with the patients aside from the service provided by the nursing home. They have a common room where they do activities, people who come in and play guitar, and movies from time to time. If a resident has to go to their doctor's appointment, they have a service to take them. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and attentive to their patients. There are times that the common room is a bit too quiet, so maybe they could have some background music to help keep the atmosphere engaging.

My father was at The Pines at Poughkeepsie Center. It was beneficial for him. He received OT and PT and was kept very busy. The nurses and the people that came into his room were very good and seemed very caring. My father didn't usually like the food, though. He was on a diabetic, low-sugar, low-salt diet, so a lot of the food was bland.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have a very close family member in the Pines for rehabilitation. The place give a terrifically clean, professional environment. For the most part the staff is friendly. There a few of them though that are cocky and don't feel they need to acknowledge the family members when concerns are brought to their attention. Oxygen tank has run out and left like that. Left sleeping in the hallway waiting for therapy for a few hours. When the patient fell asleep waiting his head was hanging. Keep in mind this is directly in front of the nurses station. Not one person thought they should wake him or give him support for his neck. Nobody cared that he was waiting in the hall to be taken for physical therapy for an extended length of time. Had we not gotten there and found him there like this he would have remained there for several hours. The were not taking him to therapy for a few more hours. Just before dinner his oxygen tank was almost empty. When it was brought to an aids attention she said he is fine. Being familiar with the length of time a low oxygen tank has before running out we knew he did not have much time. But the aid left us hanging. The tank ran out just as his dinner was brought to his table in the dining room. Had to go get another aid to get a nurse. They were unable to find the key to the oxygen room. He had to leave the dining room and be brought back to his room to get hooked up to the oxygen machine while they tried to find the key. Had my family had not been there he would have been left there with an empty oxygen tank. Standing near the nurses station waiting for the elevator I heard all of the aids and nurses trying to locate a key to the oxygen room another day as well. There is a sore on his bottom that was being packed with Lanolin cream. This cream is intended to be used to avoid a sore. Not treat and pack a sore with. Had we not read the cream tube we would not have known this. We immediately brought the matter to the attention of one of the staff. The appeared concerned and bothered that this was going on and privately suggested to get the nurse into the room and make her look at the wound and be aware of the mistreatment of it. The nurse was unaware of the wound. Claims nothing was brought to her attention and she had not inspected him herself. His adult diaper should be changed every two or no more than three hours. Almost an entire day went by and it was not changed. Thankfully family is visiting him daily at all hours to keep on top of his lack of care. After a full week in their his rehabilitation is no more than a 30 minute nothing!. Two family members arrived early to witness what quality of therapy and exercises were being done. WOW!! The patients are place in one area and told to do one thing. The staff member walks away and never once looked in the patients direction. Sat at a computer. Weekends are a story of its own. Under staff!!!! One person bringing meals into the dining room. The food was taking so long and it was arriving to the patients cold. Rehabilitation on weekends is almost not being done... Is there a discount price for weekends for the patients? Diet restrictions are not being followed by any far stretch of the imagination. Thankfully having family there at meal times we are able to catch the daily errors. Terrible to imagine what is happening to the patients that are not fortunate enough to have family and loved ones over seeing their care. How this place was rated almost a 5 star is beyond me. Lucky there are many wonderful hard working and dedicated staff there. But not enough to offset the others that are not any good. Some of the staff project an attitude that we and the patients are their for them. The need to be reminded the facility is being paid good money for every single day. They are there for the sole purpose of the patients (our loved ones). We are now looking to bring my father home and get outside care to come to the house. He is not there to be laying in bed or sitting in a corner in a wheelchair all day. He is there to gain rehabilitation to gain strength to aid in his care at home. This is not happening. It is like he is in a holding tank going no where. I want to have him go to more exercise/rehabilitation sessions and film them. Make sure I have several recordings of the terrible service they are providing for my father's needs. Would also help to film and document other regular daily mistakes so they can not be denied when the proper attention is brought to investigate these concerns. This place has the potential of being a 5 star but that surely has not been achieved. Don't be misled by that rating. Diet restrictions are important details to be followed. Somebody on no salt, no sugar and all drinks to be thickened are getting food brought to them that to not meet these restricted needs.

I visited this facility

The Pines was very nice, and the staff seemed friendly. The apartments were too small for our needs, and that was the dilemma there. I would just say larger apartments because they seemed rather small especially if there were two people living there.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

After my mother fell in the shower and broke her hip she was taken to Eden Park for rehab until she could take care of herself again. Because she didn't have the best medical insurance there wasn't a lot of choices and this one was the closest to home. Poughkeepsie in general is not a nice city and this place fits it perfectly. The staff are lazy and incompetent and did not try to hide the fact that they did not care about the patients. The first time I visited my mom I cried because I could not take her home. She told me that she would be starving and no one would bring her any food. They made her feel humiliated for not being able to do things for herself. The cleanliness was not the worst, but definitely not the best. The floor that my mom was on was the assisted living floor and the rest of the floors were for the nursing home patients. You could hear noises from up there that made me feel ver yuncomfortable. The staff constantly talked about how they didn't make enough money to do the nasty stuff they had to do. My mom was there for about two months before she was moved back home with the care of an aid. After seeing that place, I would never put my mother in a nursing home.
