I am/was a resident of this facility

My room was not hygienically satisfactory. The toilets and bathroom floor need cleaning and disinfection. The floor is sticky because of the wrong cleaner. It was like walking on fly paper. Ihad to ask the maintenance man what kind of cleaner he was using and if he ever cleaned the filthy mop. The cleaner is not for vinyl floors. The mop is not cleaned properly. Watch the toilet paper as there may be none in the bathroom. The towels are rag quality. The mattress is bumps and valleys. It keeps your back at high risk discomfort the so called mattress is taken out of a folded plastic bag. It is called a mattress. However it is not. How uncomfortable!!! There is always a problem with the food trays. Various items are left out and you will never receive them For example bread and milk or soda. Do not order rye bread as it may be stale and Your roommate may snore all night and it is impossible to explain why you need a room change. You will never get this room change. The PT dept and social worker are very professional and caring. In hindsight I would never recommend this facility and I do not know how I lasted three weeks.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is in Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. I think the nursing staff is great. In the beginning, people reached out to me a lot, but now I'm having a little trouble getting information out of them, but they do get back to me. The rehab is amazing. Sometimes, their staffing isn't as great, especially on the weekends. I think they all probably like to help the residents, especially if they're wheelchair- bound. My father fell a couple of times. The staff seems very nice, they are just spread a little thin. They were very nice and very professional. I know that they're upgrading it. It's an old building, so there's scaffolding, and you can't go outside. There's no place to go except the lobby or the dining room with the patients who are confined there for rehab. The rooms look like a nursing home, even though it's rehab. It just looks very institutional.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom had a terrible fall earlier this year resulting in a shattered femur and a series of surgeries which we knew would be followed by a long stay in rehab.  Needless to say, we were extremely anxious about finding her a spot where we could be confident she would be well cared for and feel comfortable. We were at another rehabilitation center before we were able to secure her a room at Grandell, and what a difference, we now were sure we had found the perfect spot.    Her room had a beautiful view of the ocean, it was immaculately clean and it had plenty of space for the family to visit.  But more important than the room was the Grandell staff, all of whom went above and beyond to make Mom feel welcome, at home and loved.   From our first telephone call to secure her room to our final check-out (and beyond) everyone was top notch.  Joanne could not have been more thorough in regularly checking in with Mom and keeping all of us up-to-date on what was going on when we weren’t there – the peace of mind that gave us was priceless.  Serena, our social worker, was flawless in making sure everything was in place when Mom checked in and was just as diligent in making sure that everything we needed had been ordered, delivered and was in place and working before we brought Mom home.  Both have continued to follow-up to this day – more than a month since we’ve checked out.  And that genuine caring and warmth was evident from the entire staff throughout Mom’s stay – Ola, Jenn, Marino, Tomiko, Naiome, Kerby and all of the rest of the nurses, aides, therapists (Maria), transportation coordinator and housekeepers proved to be nothing short of a blessing for Mom and our family as we navigated this difficult time.     We truly cannot thank them all enough.  Our entire family would whole-heartedly recommend Grandell to anyone looking for a rehabilitation facility for one of their loved ones.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is currently in Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center getting full care including speech, physical, and occupational therapy. He was in the hospital because of seizures and was transferred there because he wasn't walking when he was in the hospital as they didn't let him out of the bed. Before he was sent to the hospital, he didn't have a problem walking but after it, he needed a rehabilitation place to help him regain the skills that he had lost. I usually get there after dinner when they're already done with activities so I haven't been there to see the activity portion of it. I haven't tried their food either but my dad seems to like it along with everybody. It seems like their food is quite good and they're kosher, which is what we were looking for as well. The place is clean, the staff is very, very sweet, and we're pretty happy with it. They have a big dining room where they do activities, as well as eat. They have nice rooms, and they're literally across the street from the beach so it's beautiful. The only thing that's a little bit annoying is when you call, it's not always easy to get through to someone because their lines are busy a lot. That would be the only thing though. Other than that, they are pretty great.

My wife was a resident at the facility. She was treated royally. The food was very good, the staff can truly be described as CAREGIVERS. They care about the residents and are giving in nature, and the mood is very cheerful. She felt as if she was on vacation at a Spa, rather than a resident at a rehab facility.

Horrible treatment. They don't change patient after going to the bathroom until they want to. No phone's in the rooms. Freezing cold in the winter, they keep the heat low. New Covid infections every week by staff members bringing it in, more. Never bring Anyone there.

my mother has been a rehab patient at grandell over the past 8 days and i cant say enough about how positive the experience has been for herself and our family. The aides have been incredible for their upbeat nature and caring for my mother and other patients as i have observed. The culture clearly indicates that this is a TOP priority for their staff and it shows in their attitude and caring. The room my mother has been in is kept clean and tidy and the food has been much better than her expectations. The PT/ OT has been helpful to her and she enjoys the interactions she has had with this staff. We are so happy that we chose this facility to assist in my mother's recovery!

I visited this facility

The people who work there are pleasant and they work very hard. Its nice to show appreciation and gratitude to them since they spend alot of time with our love ones. My only wish is for them to continue renovating the place and upgrading to new technology.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I have added a new prayer to my morning: Dear God, please don't let me end up in Grandell Rehab. When you walk down the hall and see the poor people stuck in their wheelchairs side-by-side with nothing to occupy them but the ravings of the resident next to them, it will break your heart. If there is loving care going on in this joint, it was not obvious. God preserve us.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother-in-law was there for years, with advanced Parkinson's. When the dementia and Parkinson's advanced, they weren't able to care for her, and she wound up in the hospital, more than Grandell. If your loved one is coherent, and/or short term, it's not bad. They don't give the same attention to long term patients, as they should. Their in house doctors, were not the best either. They need more compassionate staff.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law has been a resident of Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for over a year now. I have only been there a few times, and the staff seemed very friendly. Every time I visited her, I felt like we needed to get her out of that place. It smelled, and the dining room was a mess. I witnessed employees yelling at patients. It is not a good place. The staff was friendly when they see us, and some were really nice, but I had also witnessed some of the aides treating patients poorly. You could see a beach area from the nursing home.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandfather was in this facility for several years and I visited him there on dozens of occassions. It is in a good location near the beach. With few exceptions, a lot of the staff at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Care did not seem to care much about their jobs and didn't have any passion toward caring for their clients. The staff was courteous to frequent visitors. They did have organized activities such as bingo for the residents, and had around 100 books in their library. I guess that there are worse places to spend the final years of your life.
