It smells bad, almost every time we have gone. Staff are on their own personal phone conversations. We often hear ample amounts of profanities. There are times we have visited during meals and residents are eating with no staff present. The grounds out back are one of the very few positives this place has. We are currently working on moving mom to another place.

We had a great tour of Brookdale Reno. We went to the community room, the kitchen, and the TV room, and we looked at one of the model bedrooms. Everything was safety conscious. There were no tripping hazards, nothing that anybody could get hurt with. It was very nice. It was almost perfect. And then we walked around the outside. We petted their pets - 2 cats and 2 dogs. The lady who gave us the tour was very nice and informational, and she had all the answers we needed.

Brookdale Reno was very nicely laid out. There were all kinds of little sitting areas. It was very bright with lots of windows. It was in the summer so we went outside and walked around the grounds and it was all enclosed and safe for the residents. The staff was very friendly. All my questions were answered and I got to meet people that were in charge of different areas. They had a variety of activities that they did for the residents. They would try to get them out in their van even just to drive around the city, but a lot of times they would have destinations that they would go to. Then during the summer, they would have a barbecue outside and some sort of entertainment that they always had, which I also thought was pretty good.

All the staff that I met at Brookdale Reno seemed very happy in their jobs, cared about their residents, and were able to accommodate their special needs (like dietary/room needs). They were very nice to work with and their facility was quite nice. There's a very attractive outdoor space where they have a patio and a barbecue that residents can go out and enjoy. They also have a little garden area where residents can garden and a walkway path for exercise. It's very secure and it's just very pleasant. It was an excellent place.

My husband is in Brookdale Reno. I think the level of caring is excellent. They are kind and they pay attention to everything about my husband. They are very responsive to families. There's nothing I don't like about it. They give very excellent care to both the resident and the family. It's a very pleasant environment. It's a place that I like visiting. The staff sometimes bring their dogs to work with them. There are animals in the facility and I love that. The staff is excellent. They're perfect. They have very good activities. They have chair exercise, gardening, they celebrate holidays, they had a dance, and they have live music. With food, they have paid a lot of attention to my husband's likes and dislikes, and he eats, which is better than he was doing at home.

This place a money taker I would not recommend it to anyone. My Dad only stayed here for two months. This facility was the only option for my Dad at the time. Some of Staff members were very rude to me and even ignore the residents while I would visit my dad. So I wonder what they were doing the same to my father after I would leave. My Dad’s room was dirty and had a bad order had to ask them to clean his room. When we would arrive on many occasion they would with just his Depends on with no PJ’s or Sweat pants on. His cloths would be soiled with yesterday food stains. I would not recommend Brookdale Senior Living even if it was the last care facility on Earth. We as a family decided to pull Dad from Brookdale Senior Living, Reno ASAP. And took him home and hired a Private in home care. Hospices provided him a bed, bed tray, radio and more. But best believe they there billing department made sure the bill/invoice was sent timely as a money taker.

I toured Brookdale Reno. In comparing it to the place we chose, this was more clinical and it was not as updated of a place. The staff and everybody seemed kind and it seemed like a decent place, and they had talked about some of the activities. To me, it was more corporate while the other place was family-owned. The rooms were small, which they said they don't want the residents to spend time there. They want them out in the other areas during the day. But they were small areas, they had an armoire. We were restricted on what we could and could not look at because of COVID, so when we walked through, we had to stay away from residents. I chose the other place because I felt like it was a more modern, clean, family atmosphere while Brookdale just seem to be a little bit older and just seemed more institutional. There seemed to be a lot of sitting areas.

Brookdale Reno was fine, and they were very accommodating. With COVID going on, we didn't really get a chance to see too many of the amenities. They have unlocked doors that go out to an outside, fenced area, and I like that, because my dad likes to walk around outside. We saw their dining hall, their little community room, and the TV room, and that was nice.

I went to Brookdale Reno. The furnishings made you feel like you were visiting a grandma's house. Everything was somewhat outdated. For some people, that would work out well, but for others it might not work out too well. For our particular circumstance, we found out that my mom wasn't quite ready for the level of care that they offered.

I have visited a friends mother half a dozen times maybe over the past year and have had similar experience each time. Her mom is dirty & her room stinks, her teeth are in such bad condition that my friend has now started to take her mother to the dentist monthly to get her teeth cleaned. The majority of the staff interact with each other but ignore the residents, and the last time I visited I wanted to speak with a manager regarding these issues and I was sent to a staff member they refer to as a medical technician and when I finally found the girl she was outside playing basketball with a member of The Care staff. Just recently I have started to look for a place for my own father and decided that I wouldn't put him in Brookdale even if it was the last care facility on Earth.

We walked around Brookdale and I think I only saw one caregiver for the four wings. Their attitudes were positive. They said that they had activities, but they didn’t get into the kinds of activities. The rooms are very cute, but one of the downfalls is that the shower for the residents is outside of the room. Everybody showers in the same shower in the hallway. If they’re taking the residents outside of the room to shower, then through the hallway back to the room, they’re going to get cold. Brookdale was expensive. The residents were allowed to go outside and walk around, but everything was fenced in. They had a car out there, too, so the elderly people could still get in that car and feel like they’re driving. That’s one nice thing that they have there for the elderly. They could improve on cleanliness and having more caregivers. Maybe they were busy cleaning something, and that’s why I didn’t see them, but I was looking for them. And there isn't carpet anywhere; it is all hardwood floor, which worries me. If they fall down, they’re going to hit the hard floor.

I urge anyone reviewing care for a loved one to do the research and to look for current dates for any positive reviews. Nothing recent! All down hill and continuing to worsen. Presently, I can without exception express that this facility and administration is the worst example of elder care for our loved ones and should be shut down. I did my research when making the difficult decision to put my loved one in their care. At the time they were an acceptable A rating and within 3 months went to a C rating with constant turnover, poor operations, and poor staff morale.... all translating into poor care due to dishonest administrators including the present head nurse. Resident to staff ratio is not what administrators claimed it to be and were informed of it on several occasions without concern. In addition, to reading reviews please do the research and review complaints submitted to the state. Not for your loved one!

We were able to visit and it is a nice place. It seemed clean to me as well. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable, and they knew what they had to do, so they were fine. I was able to look at their activities and they were fine as well. They have exercise, card games, TV room, arts and crafts too.

Additional Amenity Information
- Special Comment: Our senior community is designed with four memory care "neighborhoods," each with 13 small private studio apartments. Most have views of the courtyard; some with views of the golf course. Each apartment includes a bathroom (no shower for safety reasons), cable access, individually controlled temperature and air conditioning and emergency call buttons. The rooms are small and intimate. Residents are welcome to create their own personal space by decorating their studios anyway they wish. They also have full access to the neighborhood's own living room area, dining room and kitchen and can wander into the other three neighborhoods whenever they wish. In the center of the community is our Town Square, with a wellness center, private dining room, group activities room, a beauty salon, and our community center. The Town Square offers many large windows looking out onto the secured courtyard area. Each neighborhood entrance is located in the Town Square and offers a sitting area with something different that invites engagement - a beautiful fish tank, a piano, a slot machine and in another, stuffed animals and a dollhouse. This is very much a place for residents to observe the world around them, just like if they were in the park, sitting on a bench. This unique set up - with small private rooms, individual neighborhoods and a central Town Square - creates the feeling of a small community within a town and gives residents the personal space they need, while encouraging them to engage with others. Visitors also often remark upon how cheerful, bright and clean our community is.
