Holmes Lake Rehabilitation & Care Center’s rooms were very nice. The staff was all very nice, but they were not staffed adequately for my father’s condition, so he was not able to stay there the full length of time that they committed to, and that was unfortunate as they knew when they accepted him that he had dementia and they accepted him regardless. He was on a 30-day Medicare coming out of a hospital, and they were not able to fulfill that because of his dementia and his mobility, and there weren’t staff to manage that. The staff was responsive, but I don’t know if they really are fully trained in dementia care. He went there for rehab after a stroke, but his primary diagnosis was dementia, so I would not recommend them right now at this point that way their staffing trained for patients with dementia. The food was wonderful. But I think a more integrated communication between all of their services, occupational rehab, and physical therapy would be nice. Physical and occupational therapy kept separate records, and they couldn’t access each other’s easily for the family, so when we would want to know from the nurses how he did today in occupational therapy, they would say we don’t know. I just think they could have a better integration of their communication of the entire patient record for families who ask.
