"The staff at Burcham Hills is made up of a wonderful, caring group of people. They helped us with any problems we ever encountered at any time of day. They got to know my grandparents very well and they all were more than just employees of the place to my family. The building is beautiful and kept very well. They continue to construct and update it to be the best and most modern that it can be. Family events were never a problem to hold in their meeting rooms, as they accommodated so well for us. My grandparents got wonderful treatment, and actually ending up living in their condos and moving to their apartments. My grandmother also stayed in their rehabilitation center while recovering from heart surgery. I couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere to have my grandparents' spend their last few remaining years at. Burcham Hills really cares for their residents and residents' families. "

"We moved my mother-in-law to Bickford of Okemos after Labor Day. We really haven't been able to step inside the community too often, but one of the reasons why we chose it was the location. Another reason was because they have memory care. The biggest reason was because they allow us to still visit outdoors even with Covid and we want to make sure that we have a place where we could still see her. The thing about it now is that they've really shut down and no one can go in and out but they haven't had any cases until recently so that was another thing. Everybody there was very good. They are clean, they are caring, and the staff tries to take care of you like we could do window visits when we didn't schedule for an outdoor visit. For outdoor visits they have two different areas with the seating and everything and we were to keep our masks on while we were there. You schedule for your outdoor visits, you get half an hour visit each time and it's 9-4 from Mondays to Fridays. On the weekends we get to do window visits which we really like being able to do. The staff were pretty accommodating. We're happy with the place. They do all kinds of activities. The one time they were doing nails. We noticed my mother-in-law needed her nails cut and when our visit was over we talked specifically to the care worker if she's going to take her and get her nails done. My mother-in-law said she's not going but they were able to get her in there and we knew this because her nails were polished and cut. So they really try to work and get the relationship with their clients and we were pretty happy that she has gotten that kind of care. They have stuff going on all the time between puzzles and kiddie parties, snacks and Halloweens. Last time they had all kinds of Halloween stuff going on all month like paint this pumpkin this day and do something else with this pumpkin the next day. My mother-in-law ended up with 3 different pumpkins from 3 different parties she went to. Also, if you wanted a snack, you can go down and get a snack. They really should post their activities, maybe they do on their Facebook. I just don't do Facebook. We don't have anything to compare it to but I know about care facilities. The OT keeps in communication with us but sometimes it's a little bit harder to get with the nurse on like a quick turnaround phone call. Otherwise, the OT keeps us up on things. We know this place is expensive and I'm sure there are other places that are not as expensive but then we can't go in and visit so for everything that they're doing for her, I guess we're pretty happy. I would say the layout for me is good because in the middle, they have a courtyard and we like knowing that she can get out into fresh air if she wants to. She also has an outside room there so we could do window visits. If she did not have that outside room we couldn't have done the window visits because we know someone who didn't have the outside room. They should improve on the food."

"Brookdale Meridian was nice, clean, and recently renovated. The rooms that were in my mother's price range were more like hospital rooms, which didn't have a separate bedroom, just one room with a bed and recliners. You wouldn't be able to bring much of your furniture from home. The staff and all the amenities seemed very nice. They had some bigger rooms that had more of an apartment feel, but it was out of my mother's price range."

"I visited the community to see a family member during an event! I was amazed at how much the staff was interacting with the residents, and how fun the event was. We had a valentines dinner, the meal was amazing and the presentation of the deserts looked like something that you only see on TV. They had an Elvis impersonation performing who was amazing as well. I couldn’t get over how helpful all of the staff were, even the director was helping clear plates and cups from tables and they all seemed to really love their jobs. A job well done for sure! I am so happy my aunt is able to be a part of something so special every day."

"I have chosen Fairview. I had three different families who told me that they were very pleased when their parents were there. I went to visit it twice, and it was great. They were very helpful, showed me all around, and answered every question that I had. They have all private rooms, and my aunt will have her own bathroom. They have a beauty shop and a lady that comes in who washes and shampoos their hair and sets it for them. They have a beautiful English sheepdog that everybody can hug. It’s just wonderful. It’s an old farmhouse that's all redone, so it’s just beautiful, and my aunt grew up on a farm. They have about 20 people right now, and they are building an addition, which will give them another 20 rooms. "

"I was able to schedule a tour quickly to Divine Life Assisted Living Center of Lansing, instead of having them make me wait a few days. They were very efficient that way. I liked that my mom could go into their kitchen and make her own food. They are willing to cater to her particular meals. The tour was awesome. The place was very clean. It did not smell like any kind of urine. Different staff were walking by the residents and they always greeted them or said something to them. The only thing that they didn't have that we wanted was we got the private room, but it was a shared bathroom."

"My father moved into the Divine Life Assisted Living Center #5. I am very happy with them. It was kind of a last option, but they're doing an excellent job in taking care of my father. They were my only option actually; it was the only place that he could afford with the level of care that he required. The staff is excellent. The owner is very compassionate, understanding, and thorough, and he definitely has a heart for what he's doing. The care manager at my dad's facility goes above and beyond, and she's always kind and compassionate when I speak to her, because I live three hours away. So, they're very accommodating, they're very helpful, they're very knowledgeable, and they definitely give me the sense that I can rest knowing that my dad's well cared for."

"My wife moved to Addington Place in October 2020. She has been suffering from vascular dementia (1st diagnosed about 5 year ago at MSU). Since she's lived there, she has had excellent, compassionate care by all of the staff. They have adapted very well as her memory and physical issues have increased. An ongoing issue for the facility has been the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Even so, the staff has put forth the effort for us to help celebrate special occasions. I would recommend Addington Place to any of my friends."

"Kalkidan AFC 3 is fantastic and my mother's room is wonderful. The care has been very good; she's having her needs met. I'm there on a regular basis, it's always been clean, there's no unpleasant odor, and the patients are clean. I can't say enough good things about it. Because of the efforts of the woman that owns the place, Mother has put on weight. There are only six residents, and they conscientiously take care of all aspects required by their patients."

"The Brook of Portland was very nice. There were little apartments in there. They have pull cords. My dad is allowed to have a dog if he wants one. They have meal plans. We saw them delivering the food to the residents. The staff was amazing. In some of the rooms, like the more assisted areas, they supply a microwave and a small fridge. In some of the more independent apartments, they supply the stove and refrigerator, but you have to bring your own microwave. They have pool tables, a theater room, and all kinds of programs. They bring in people who play music a couple of times a week. They do have one laundry room in each quarter that is free to use. They also have a laundry service that you can pay for. They'll come to pick up your laundry and do it for you."
