My father was at Stroudwater Lodge. It was a great place for him. I just wish he could have stayed longer to enjoy it. It was an amazing place. I would have stayed there myself. They just had so many amenities, like the restaurant, the type of food in there, a social lounge, and a movie theater. They just had so many things to do for them every day. If he called for them, they would be right there. They did things for him that weren't asked and stuff that was not expected of them to do. They just helped me out amazingly. The place was amazing. They call it The Lodge because it looked like a ski lodge. You walked in, and there's a big grand entrance and restaurants there. There were people actually walking around with smiles on their faces, so it looked like they enjoyed themselves being there. I can't say more; I just wish my father would have enjoyed it himself. They listed the activities on the boards every morning or posted it right there on front. Because of COVID, we couldn't eat there. They couldn't do that stuff. Before they said yes, you could come in and eat with him and stuff. I would have loved to do that, but the food that they brought my father was amazing. It was like a restaurant. You get to pick a couple of choices, and it was good stuff.

I've toured several places. The one I like the best is Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook. First of all, I liked the staff. It seemed to be well staffed. All the staff seemed to be friendly. They have OT, PT, and speech therapy right on site. They're full time there, so I like that a lot. Leah who took me around greeted every one of the residents we met by name. A couple of the residents spoke to us and said they loved it there, so that would be the first thing. I liked the facility. I like that they have a lot of activities geared towards seniors. For my friend, one of the things that was especially good is that the chef will do gluten free, which some places can't accommodate. I like the location. It's in the woods, and there is a Portland trail (a really nice walking path right next to it). In fact, you can go through the largest patio to get to the walking trail, and it's easy. It's a wide path. It's fairly easy walking, so I like that a lot. They just seem to meet the needs of the people that were there. They look at it as their job is to fit the client, not the client to fit them. They provided us with a take-out meal, which was excellent. It's big (which might not appeal to everybody), but it's very comfortable. All of the activity rooms, exercise rooms, and everything was very nice. The apartments were lovely.

The employees of Stroudwater Lodge were so kind and friendly. The apartments were beautiful. It was very neat, clean, bright, and had an open layout. They also have laundry, housekeeping, and you can get food basically whenever you want or need. They have a nice outdoor space, patio chairs, and tables. There were a lot of activities going on that you could choose to join or not. They have a grocery shopping day where they take them to the grocery store, and typically, prior to COVID, they would go out and get ice cream.

We chose Stroudwater Lodge because we felt they had a more comprehensive program there that gives them access to occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech, and a lab that will come in weekly to do lab work if it's necessary. That was a critical element for us. My interactions with the staff has been great. They're very supportive, communicative, and caring. It's been a good experience so far. The facility is very nice, they're only four years old, state of the art, they're very bright, and well-equipped. From what I can see they're also very well-maintained and clean. My dad lives in a studio and my mom and my aunt live in a one-bedroom apartment, and the environment is very pleasant. In addition to having the OT and PT interactions, they have exercise classes. They also have entertainment done, not necessarily live, although they used to also have a couple of live entertainments out there. Over the holidays they had televised performances in their theater so that residents could go see it on the big screen. They saw performances from Radio City Music Hall and they had movies. They also have Happy Hour and they have games like Pictionary and things like that. They keep the residents engaged. I think with the COVID-19 theyre doing a great job with the restrictions that are in place and still able to keep the people engaged. They also have a small bus that they use to take them out. One time they took them out to see the Christmas lights and that was really great; my mother and my aunt really loved that. One warm winter day they also went to the beach and saw the surfers. I know yesterday they went on a drive to see the lighthouses in the area.
