My wife was at The Gardens Assisted Living. It was good until the COVID thing started and that's why I took her out of there before it got out of hand. She had pretty good care there, but they were understaffed. The attitude of the staff was good. They were good considering they had a lot of patients. The food wasn't too good though. I wouldn't recommend it over some other places. The place was clean.

The rooms at The Gardens were more like hospital rooms and very small, but the whole place was nice. They offered three meals a day, and their dining room was very nice and like a restaurant with a menu that they bring to you. They had activities and transportation to go on outings. Overall, it was very nice.

I thought the Gardens Assisted Living was nice, but it was older. The rooms were a fair size. The people I visited with seemed fine. Although they said it was assisted living, my dad would have had to do his own laundry, but they did have rooms in the inside courtyard with a garden, and he would have enjoyed that. That was my second choice. They also had their Alzheimer's unit right in the same area, and that was one of my focuses because it tends to run in Dad's family, so I wanted some place where, if we ever got to that point, we wouldn't be picking him up and moving him far away. The staff already would already know him, it would be familiar, and it wouldn't be as big of a transition. I liked that they had access to a pretty courtyard because my father has always enjoyed being outside; he would have enjoyed that part of it.

My grandparents lived at the Guardian House in Lake Charles for 2, almost 3 years because of my grandmothers dementia and my grandfathers alzheimers. We were no longer able to take care of my grandparents ourselves so we thought this was the best choice. The Guardian House is very clean, very quiet, and has an excellent staff. They have some state of the art features but they never seemed to be working. I do not like that the nurses rarely checked on my grandparents. My grandfather fell once and no one was around and he had to wait there while my grandmother went to get someone, that has always stuck with me and still makes me upset to this day. Overall though, it is a great facility for the most part.

I have had family in this assisted living facility. They were in the Alzheimers building (Guardian House) and were well taken care of. The night shift always seemed to be sitting around and never seemed busy which seemed a little off to me. However the day time caretakers were on their game and always warm and friendly. I really like that they have a state of the art monitor system that alerts when a resident is up and moving around or may need assistance. Each room also has several call buttons for the resident in the event they need assistance. Most caretakers are CNA's or higher. There is always at least 1 nurse on staff.

Overall, this is a well run facility. The staff takes great care of the residents and makes sure that their needs are met. There are a lot of opportunities for the residents to participate in a activities and socialize with one another. However, there are some aspects of general cleanliness that could be addressed. It has been my experience that some of the residents, who may no longer have the mental capacity to clean up after themselves, have lacked some attention in regards to aiding them in cleaning up their living space. This is a small flaw that has been quickly and easily corrected when pointed out. Otherwise, the facility is fantastic and the residents seem well cared for, happy, and content. If you have a loved one or friend of a loved one who requires an assisted living situation, I would highly recommend looking into this facility.
