I was happy with the care for my father. He became strong enough to come home. The other residents were happy. The food was good and my dad is picky. Some items he didn’t like but they had other options.

My father was a resident of this facility for a few months. My experience with this long-term care facility was disappointing. While a few staff members were kind and genuinely caring, the overall quality of care provided to patients was subpar. There were frequent issues with responsiveness and attentiveness to residents' needs, leaving much to be desired in terms of consistent, compassionate care. The business office, however, was the most frustrating part of the experience. They were disorganized and seemed to have no understanding of proper billing procedures. I repeatedly received bills that didn’t detail the charges and was harassed for payment, even though insurance had not yet processed or paid the claims. This added unnecessary stress during an already challenging time. I would not recommend this facility unless significant improvements are made, both in patient care and administrative processes. Families deserve peace of mind, not the constant frustration of dealing with poor communication and unprofessional practices.

DO NOT put your loved ones in this facility! You will regret it! My grandmother would have lived longer if it wasn't for the careless workers here. She only lived here for FOUR months. FOUR months! In the last month of her life at this place there was an incident. We still do not know the true story, as we've heard multiple different stories by the workers here. She very quickly went downhill, and sadly passed away. Find a different place and do your research. Visit several times before deciding and visit unexpectedly. Please DO NOT trust this place with your loved ones!!

We have visited Shawnee Gardens Healthcare and Rehab Center. We chose it for my dad because of its location and they have transportation. They'll take him to dialysis three times a week, and they have a person to do that, and that was the main reason. My mom mostly chose it, and she likes it. The staff was nice. They were just engaging, and they listened to all our concerns. The facility is not anything super special, but it was adequate. It looked clean and it looked good. They have a courtyard, and they have physical therapy. The location is convenient for us just because it is close to our homes. It's probably within a few miles of a hospital, and there are a lot of restaurants and stuff around.

This place is horrible! Rinks of urine, press the call light no one comes for HOURS! The staff is unfriendly and lazy, they for got to bring my farther in law meals daily multiple times the meals they did bring, unhealthy! Non diabetic friendly. They yell and treat patients like they are garbage. If you love your loved one do not send them here! There was a cockroach in the water when my sister in law went to give him a drink of his water, this place is a disgrace. They should be assumed to even offer support to people when they are so under staffed, and can’t care for the needs they already have.

My grandma was in here for along time. They use to give such great care to her. She was basically put in a coma because she was given pain pills constantly when she didn’t need them and gave her so many drugs she did not need and she was not prescribed by the doctor. We had to send her to another facility to get her back on her feet. I feel like they tried to kill her because she was there for so long and needed so much care all of the time.

I'm not particularly happy here at Shawnee Gardens. We have a couple of really good activities directors and they come up with interesting things to do. However, the staff generally seems to be more interested in their cell phones. It takes a while to get a meal. The advertisement says breakfasts are served at 8:00 a.m. and we don't get served until later than that. There are some staff members that are great and are very concerned about our welfare, but there are others who aren't particularly positive. I've been here since October and I've made my own bed and changed linens, and doing this hurts my back. It's a 50/50 kind of thing. There are people in my unit who aren't able to control their bladders and it smells right now. It's very uncomfortable. The bus driver is wonderful, fun, and makes things interesting. The lunch and dinner were wonderful yesterday, but today the menu doesn't reflect that it's going be a good meal. The housekeepers do a good job. They've replaced the flooring upstairs and they're getting ready to put down new carpet here.

The facility is friendly and warm when I walked in, loved seeing all the other residents up and around doing activities.Staff was friendly when walked in and wanted to tour. My grandma is now on one of the wings and she likes the food, she receives the help when it is needed. Overall I would recommend this facility to other family members.

My soon to be father-in-law currently resides in this facility, and the staff takes very good care of him. I am an RN, and my fiancé will soon graduate from medical school. We met as CNAs at an Alzheimers facility. By our standards, Shawnee Gardens is a very good facility, and we are very happy with the care he receives. He is given a choice of what to eat at meal time. The food is brought into the dining room and is kept warm in a portable buffet table. The units do not smell of urine, which was one of my concerns. We put a television in my FIL's room, and staff will turn it to channels we have requested. His behavior is monitored closely and concerns are communicated. The staff is very helpful and on top of things. They made transition from a rehab a smooth one. With the current Medicaid crisis in Kansas we were just grateful a nursing home took him in. We were exremely lucky he ended up here. Close to us, nice grounds in a nice neighborhood, and a former RN I spoke to said she loved working there. Place your loved one here and you can be assured they will be well taken care of.

Filthy, absolutely the worst facility I have ever been in! The feeling of dread followed me the entire time I was there and to top it off, it reminded me of an old and creepy sanitarium

We visited this location and considered it as an option for our loved one. The location is good - in a nice neighborhood and close to Shawnee Mission Parkway. It is really important you have them show you all the different units when you take a tour. While the first floor is fairly nice, the second floor is not. The second floor really needed a lot of upgrades and smelled of urine. I don't have any information on quality of care because we ultimately decided to go someplace else.

This place was absolutely horrible!! We placed my grandfather, who has Alzheimer's, here for a 5-day stay while my grandmother, who is his primary caretaker, had heart surgery. During his time there they only changed his clothes 1 time, never took him out of his wheel chair so he could walk, yelled at him (my grandmother walked into the caretaker yelling at him), didn't provide him access to the toys that we left for him to play with, we went to visit him twice and we couldn't find any staff members to assist us (we looked all over the wing that he was on there was no one to be found), all of this among other things. I would HIGHLY discourage anyone from placing their loved one in the care of this facility. We did notify the social worker of all of this information and she was apologetic but, in my opinion, with the amount of money that we were paying they should be more attentive to the patient.

I was very unhappy with the care our loved one received. We soon moved my mother inlaw to a different facility. There was never the same people caring for our mother. The staff on the week-ends did not know what was going on. They were either PRN nurses or floated nurses who did not usually work on that floor. After several falls and a hospital visit, we wanted better supervision. This was disreguarded. My mother fell again and had several compression factures to go with her broken hip now. They were not responsive to the patients needs. No alarms were used to assure that mom would not try to get out of bed on her own. The staff does not seem happy or appreciated. There seems to be much turn over in staff as well. Our loved ones teeth we lost and she also lost her glasses. Her winter coat disappeared and many of her clothes. She was allowed to go to bed in her street clothes without changing her depends. ITU's are an issue with the facility also. Don't take your loved one here. Very bad idea.

I moved to Shawnee Gardens just end of last year. The facility is clean. The rooms are not really huge. They have every activity that makes me happy.

I had my mother stay at Shawnee Gardens Healthcare and Rehab Ctr. It was my choice because of the location and the way they took care of the residents. There were several staff, so there was always someone watching over the residents. The size of the rooms were just right for my Mom, and it was kept clean. In the gathering room, they played music at all times. I would strongly suggest this place.
