Elkhart Meadows

My father has advanced dementia and has lived at Elkhart Meadows for seven years. The staff is exceptional as well as the administration team. They communicate very well with me about my dad‘s care and health. He has a decent little room with his own television and bathroom. There is plenty of space in the common area and the dining room For all of the residents and guests as well as a giant fish tank that is well maintained. My dad seems very happy there.

The shared rooms are sad, the pictures we saw online are not accurate of this facility. It is not a nice looking facility. My mother gets dehydrated there but doesn't complain about the food. They don't move her enough.The facility is old and smelly and my mom is always in need of a shower when I visit. I was just there last week. My family did not visit before putting her here. I wish they had visited. I wouldn't sleep there for one night.

My husband is currently at Elkhart Meadows. The carers are phenomenal. The food is good. The care is phenomenal. The rooms are terrible. The building is old. They have a lot of things going on. They have like sing-a-longs. My husband doesn't participate in activities, but they have a lot to offer. The staff is wonderful.

We chose Elkhart Meadows for two reasons: one because they have an immediate opening, and two they are a Medicaid facility. They have a lot of staff, and they are very helpful. It is a memory care facility (which is what my mom needed), but right now she is under skilled nursing. They are doing activities, exercises, and crafts. The facility is a little worn down, but it is clean. The place is close to Elkhart General Hospital, so it is close to the hospital and other doctors' offices. Mostly, the facility is close to me.

This facility is better than a lot of facilities that I am aware of. It is not perfect and at times I believe care can be lacking, my mother recently got dehydrated they should see to it that she has enough water for herself. I wont say its all bad it does have some caring people in it I believe that treat it more than just a job.
