Independent Living Communities in Londonderry, NH

"I'm in a new residence called Connect55+ Bedford, an independent living community. I have a two-bedroom apartment with two bathrooms. One bathroom has a walk-in shower, and the other has a bathtub. I have a very good-sized apartment, which is a little over a thousand square feet. I have no problems with the upkeep, but they could use a little more staff in their janitorial service. They are looking for help right now, though. The staff is also very friendly so I have no negative comments about them. There are quite a few activities here and there are a lot of opportunities to go out with a crowd at your own expense. They do tons of activities, from gymnastics, chair yoga, and a couple of different games that I volunteer in. The whole thing was a big deal for me because I knew no one in this place when I moved in, but everybody was very pleasant and helpful. There are no meals served here, but we do have an occasional thing like the one night a month that they bring Chinese food in. If you choose to partake, you pay for that. One afternoon a month, the women also go out for lunch in groups to various places. They're not very far away, but they go to different restaurants and you can choose to go or not to go. The biggest negative to me is that they do not have enough garages to accommodate everybody, so I'm on a waiting list for a garage. That's my only negative, though. Luckily, I'm on the first floor, which I like because I do not have to enter the building through the main entrance when I come and go. I can pull right up to my door, empty my car of anything I've purchased, then drive a little way down and park my car in any spot available."

"I love the fact that Merrimack Meadows have townhouse apartments. I love the quietness here and that it is walkable. You can walk through this whole complex or even outside of it. If somebody is looking for a place where they can stay inside the complex and still have exercise, you've got it here. They have an exercise room, so you can always use that, a nice heated pool in the winter, and just being comfortable in the summer. The people are friendly, too."

"We've been at Briston Manor West for about a week now, and it looks like a good fit. Our room is very well-maintained and seems to be very efficient. The dining area is very pleasant, and so far, the food has been good. The staff is very good and have been prompt so far."

"I liked The Residence at Salem Woods. I was impressed. Physically, it was nice. The activities were nice. The staff who assisted me with the tour was very good. They've got a list of all the daily activities. They had a film room, a game room, and a library. They had independent living and assisted living where you could switch from one to the other, while others don't have that. So, I liked that. I just highly recommend it. I saw the dining room, and I saw the menus."

"This community is outstanding! I've never been to a community where you see even office staff help with kitchen needs, housekeeping, activities, housekeepers doing activities, I mean they truly stand out when it comes to true teamwork and partnership. I will be forever grateful knowing my folks are in a community that is truly run by some of the most kind and wonderful people. "

"I've been living here in the Hunt Community for almost six years now, and it's perfect for me. I kind of convinced my loved one to move here too. He thought it was too expensive at first, but they made a deal with him; he's very happy to move in here soon. The food is excellent, and we have everything here. We get a calendar each week of activities. It's five full pages or seven, so we always have something to do. We don't do much on the weekends though. They have all the options, like a studio, a one-bedroom, and very large two-bedrooms. The facility was recently renovated two years ago at the cost of 11 million dollars, so it's really great. We have entertainment from outside at least once a week (sometimes twice). There is a beautiful 54-seat movie theater, where we watch movies every day and have meditation programs. We have a lady that gives a talk about the history of religion and a wide variety of different programs. We also have a group that writes poetry, and they get together once a week to read what they've written. There's just something you can do here every day. There's never a dull moment."

"Regency Heights had very nice rooms. They were very nicely laid out. They have a heated garage that you can drive into and they have elevators getting up on the floors. It was very, very clean with very professional people in there. It was very festive. They were having a Halloween party, and it was a very nice setting. They had activities that were offered and their activity rooms were very well used. They also have an outside barbecue. The staff was very nice and very friendly."

"We toured Riverwoods Manchester a few times, and the people were very friendly. It was a really nice-sized facility. There were a good number of activities. One of the things we liked about it is that the independent living was connected to the assisted living, memory care, and the full nursing care. If one of my parents had to go to another level of care, the other one could visit all the time or they could move together. They had a nice variety of units with different sizes and prices. They have a full gym, classes like tap dancing, chair yoga, chair Taichi, lectures, and movies. They did not have a swimming pool though (which was something that I was interested in), but they had all of those other things. They also have some nice communal spaces where they set out a continental breakfast and free coffee every morning to encourage people to come out and socialize. They had some nice outdoor patio spaces, and they looked nice."

"I went to Riverside Wood yesterday. It was like a hotel. The staff was excellent. It's very spacious. I'm going to have a four-bedroom home. It's very clean, and very well-maintained. There is still construction going on."

"Ledgewood Bay at Milford was a very nice, clean, very well-maintained, but expensive. The staff was very friendly, and the amenities were nice. It was pleasant."

"My mother is in D'Youville Life & Wellness Community. We chose it because they have a memory center, and it was well kept. It's everything that I wanted, and then it's probably a little bit more. Everyone's attending to her. There's a doctor and a nurse right there. The nutritionist called me and reviewed every detail, but I haven't seen any of the food. They have a whole whiteboard of activities every day. She can pick what time she wants to do math, music, or whatever. They have different rooms, such as an activity room and a sensory room. They have a mass, a hair salon, and an outdoor balcony. It's really nice. They have everything."

"Nichols Village has little cottages that are lovely. It would be cost inhibitive for me, but they would be perfect. You still could go over to the building and have the use of all the amenities, and that would be very nice. They had the attached garage which would be perfect for me. I didn't get to see the cottages, but the apartments were very nice. The staff showed me a couple of the apartments. They had a pool there, too. The staff was very nice. I just walked in, and she said, 'We'll give you a tour if you want.' They have a garden where they could give you a little plot, and you could plant your own little garden. It was all done by the residents. I really didn't tour the outside as much there as I would have liked to; it was just kind of a quick walk around. The rooms were on the small side, but they were nice. They had a little sunroom area, which was kind of a nice idea. The kitchen, dining, and living area were adequate. The bedroom was a little bit small, but I'm only one person; it's plenty big enough for me. The living atmosphere was very nice. It's a perfect location."

"We did an in-person tour of Bayberry at Emerald Court. It was a very nice facility, it was probably the best one we saw, and I was the most impressed with that one. The woman we met was very nice, very patient, she took us around everything we could go see. We went to see some of the rooms, we saw the dining facilities, the activity facilities, she had the memory care director meet with us while we were there, and she was very informative of things going forward, and stuff like that. They were excellent as a matter of fact."

"My mother has moved into Brightview North Andover. It's excellent care. It's excellent everything. We cannot be any happier than we are. They treat my mother nicely. We don't worry about her anymore. They let us put a camera in her room, and we can see what she's doing all the time. Excellent service. I have been there when she's eating, and everything is fine. Excellent food."
