Independent Living Communities in Anoka, MN

"We moved here in December and are thrilled with our decision. We were welcomed warmly by the other residents and made to feel at home right away. The building is solid, safe, quiet, and very well maintained. The grounds are just beautiful and kept up daily. A smile will get you in anywhere here. An in-house TV station keeps you updated on what's going on daily. I love that they have a well-stocked (by the residents) art & crafts room, a woodworking shop (with a resident who has helped a lot by making and fixing some of my furniture), a knitting room where they make lovely items to donate to charity. A beauty shop, wonderful exercise classes for women and men, and even a little store run by our volunteers opened 3 mornings a week. Games, games, and more games going on all the time. A bus for those who don't choose to drive. And wonderful programming with activities on campus and off regularly. I love having dinner delivered to our apartment at a reasonable price so I don't have to cook every day. Love eating lunch in the beautiful atrium. I'd be more than happy to take you on a tour before you meet our outstanding rental agent if you would like. I love showing our home off to everyone. "Augustana Chapel View was very nice and very clean. The meals were well prepared and seemed like they had a lot to offer. The staff was very nice. The gentleman that I met with was very nice, very receptive, and very willing to help. The rooms were all double rooms. Some people were sitting in the central area where they were having a news program and different readings. They had activities, an exercise room, occupational and physical therapy, and speech therapy. "

"I toured Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. It has a continuum of care, in other words, if I can manage it in independent living, I can and if I need more help, I can add more services. So, it's not either or. It's more flexible in terms of what services I have to take. Plus, I can stay in the same unit even if I need to add care. I don't have to move to another section of the building if I go from independent to assisted living. It's a beautiful place. There's a huge walking path out in front and they have a walking club. And in the summer I like to walk. But the continuum of care was the biggest for me in my choice. They have an opening now, but I have to get my house cleaned out. So they said that they'll have openings in the fall. They know I'm coming then. The staff are caring and helpful."

"I toured Lofts on Rose. I like the staff, living facilities, and community area. That part was nice. It wasn't as roomy as the other one, but there was enough room to move around. It looked very clean. I didn't see anything out of place. Everything was where it was supposed to be. Even the residents looked clean as well."

"I moved into Havenwood about 3 weeks ago and I could not be more impressed with the facility and the very friendly and helpful staff. The food has been very good with a nice selection for each meal. Also the current residents are very accepting of new residents. They are very friendly and very helpful in making your new home a comfortable place. Overall I have no negative feelings or comments and believe that Havenwood is a very HAPPY place."

"I liked Havenwood of Richfield really well. I just didn't like it being on the other side of the river from me. The rooms were quite spacious, but the kitchens were probably a third of what the apartment was. For a one-bedroom apartment, it is kind of ridiculous to have the kitchen be so huge when they're providing two meals a day. I just felt that they could have had more living space. The living room/dining area was tiny. There was no living space. It's all kitchen. Everything was clean, neat, and well-organized. The staff was very friendly. Their social activities director's dad lived there. I think that's a pretty awesome statement that the staff would want or have their family members living there."

"I toured Elim Shores. I like the price of the unit. And it was located by a lake, so that was another plus for me. It also had the capability of having assisted living, and you would stay in your own unit, and not move, so it has services where you live. Also, they would take a program in Minnesota called elderly waiver. They have three meals a day. You have the option of buying a meal plan. You didn't have to buy all three meals. You could pay as you go or buy a reduced ticket group. I like the availability of meals and I like the availability of assisted living and elderly waivers. As life changes for me, I will probably need all of those. They have underground garage parking, which is ideal in Minnesota. There's a beauty shop, and of course, crafts and church services, so all of that was appealing. They have units that view the lake. If financially you could afford them, then you could live there. I had a taste of their barbecue, and it was okay. They have a dock, so those who would like to fish that would be available. They were planning to buy a pontoon, so there would be rides in the water. I think they have a bus and take people out in outings."

"My mom will move into Oakdale Commons. When my mom and I were there, she just fell in love with the apartments because they had a nice little patio, a walk-in shower, and it had its own washer and dryer. They had a gym. They also had a conference room. They also had a kitchen area, where you could have guests come over and stay. Outside, they have a nice little area where you can sit and gather, and they have a gas fireplace out there. They also had little garden plots where you could plant tomatoes or flowers. Another thing that my mom liked was underground parking. The lady who gave us a tour went out of her way for us, and she was very friendly. I liked her a lot."

"The Ecumen Parmly (Margaret S Parmly) is actually a very wonderful place, very clean, friendly, and nice. They do have assisted living, and we are trying to get my mother in there. She went in there Thursday last week, and the people working there were very friendly. It is very clean and very beautiful. It’s a large facility, but each section has its own wing. They have entertainers that come in, and they have TVs. The atmosphere was very good. The room is not that bad; they have like six people in there and each has plenty of room. She has her own bathroom, TV, a chair, and a table. She gets assistance getting to the wheelchair and then to the bathroom. They come very quickly when she pushes the button, and then the person that comes in would do wound care. They are very good, and they listen to her. "

"I toured the Villas at Pleasant Avenue II. They were smaller than the other facility, the apartment size, but they were brand new. They were nice. They were very clean. My friend did not like that the living room at the Villas was not carpeted. The staff who gave the tour was nice. However, she seemed to want to hurry us out of there."

"The rooms and dining area at Ecumen North Branch were very nice. The facility and the staff were very welcoming. It’s very clean. They have an activity director and a calendar of the daily activities posted at the elevator. "

"We like the activities that are provided at The Plaza by Vivie. The staff was very friendly, and the room sizes were good. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable and encouraging. The building was very clean, well kept, and updated. We toured a one-bedroom and a studio, and even the studio is a good size. The atmosphere was very open and clean."

"My sister and I really liked The Homestead of Anoka. It was a wonderful community. My mom would have been able to have her dog and take her outside for walks. The dining room was absolutely fantastic. They had a store to shop in. The staff was very attentive, and when you needed help, they would come. They only had four apartments for low income and there was a waiting list."
