"We toured Rose Arbor & Wildflower Lodge. We were impressed with the welcoming staff. The director demonstrated care for our concerns and needs for our family. Our questions were thoroughly answered. We were pleasantly surprised by how updated the apartments were. The residents were engaged, and we could see our family members there in the future. We were looking at one-bedroom apartments in particular. There are no balconies, but they have just been redone. They're fresh and new, and have a call button in more than one room. The whole place has recently been refurbished, so it's quite nice. We noticed a very nice common meeting room where a concert took place, and the residents enjoyed it, as well as a dining room with tables for conversations and meals."

"Havenwood of Maple Grove was very airy, light, white, and open compared to the other two places I went that had more darker wood. I believe they're only a year old, so they have a lot of availability. We toured both assisted living and independent. The tour guy was good. The layout was more dispersed, but they had laundry in their units. They didn't have a pool table though, which was kind of a big thing for my mother's friend."

"The rooms are older and small. The care is moderately good. The biggest complaint is that we purchased new comfortable clothing for him and within a week all but one item we purchased “disappeared” never to be seen again. They also “lost” a sweatshirt that was very dear to him. It is obvious that they randomly distribute clothing to other patients as we often arrived and he was wearing items that were not his own. I would be very wary of this place."

"I thought Copperfield Hill Senior Living was a lovely place. They had a lot of very interesting events and a beautiful atrium. I liked the two-bedroom apartment that was really close to the atrium. It was large, bright, and sunny. The woman who gave me the tour was a very nice person. One building was assisted living and another building was independent. You can add services as needed, and I thought that was very nice because you wouldn't have to move your loved ones from independent into assisted since they could get all of the services they needed. They were very flexible, and you don't have to buy an entire package. "

"We chose Covenant Living of Golden Valley. We liked how happy everyone was, the involvement of people in the community, and the interactions that people had with each other. The residents were just interactive, happy, and welcoming. It just depends which room you get. Some have laundry, some don't, and it depends on the size of the room. But one thing about them, there's a buy-in option, but you can redecorate your room how you want it before you move in."

"My parents moved into Haven Wood in June 2023. Sadly, my mom passed away that fall, and I was initially concerned about how my dad would manage living on his own. Fortunately, he truly loves it at Haven Wood. The facility and rooms are top-notch, and my dad can’t say enough good things about the food — both the quality and variety are excellent. He especially appreciates the willingness of the kitchen staff to accommodate "off-menu" requests, which makes meals feel more personal and enjoyable. While there has been quite a bit of staff turnover, everyone has been exceptionally kind and attentive to my dad, and I’m deeply grateful for the care he’s received."

"Abiitan Mill City is my favorite. If I wanted to stay in Minneapolis, I would move there. It is located near the river. The streets are lined with trees. There are lots of good restaurants within walking distance. The Guthrie Theater is within walking distance, too. Great transportation is available, from the light rail to buses. The rooms were beautiful with huge windows. They had lovely common spaces, indoors and outdoors. There were lots of arts in the hallways that I found to be very contemporary. There was a lively feeling about the staff and the residents I met. There were many happy people there."

"I toured Elim Shores. I like the price of the unit. And it was located by a lake, so that was another plus for me. It also had the capability of having assisted living, and you would stay in your own unit, and not move, so it has services where you live. Also, they would take a program in Minnesota called elderly waiver. They have three meals a day. You have the option of buying a meal plan. You didn't have to buy all three meals. You could pay as you go or buy a reduced ticket group. I like the availability of meals and I like the availability of assisted living and elderly waivers. As life changes for me, I will probably need all of those. They have underground garage parking, which is ideal in Minnesota. There's a beauty shop, and of course, crafts and church services, so all of that was appealing. They have units that view the lake. If financially you could afford them, then you could live there. I had a taste of their barbecue, and it was okay. They have a dock, so those who would like to fish that would be available. They were planning to buy a pontoon, so there would be rides in the water. I think they have a bus and take people out in outings."

"We went to visit for my brother. It was a very nice place with very nice people. We also ate there. The staff were wonderful people. I like that place. I like that they had a lot of activities. They had more amenities than the other place we toured. They're connected to a park there. You can go to the exercise room or swim in the pool."

"Havenwood Of Richfield has both Senior Living apartments and assisted living as well as memory care. We have visited friends in the senior living apartments, and our mother is in memory care. The senior living apartments.are beautiful, spacious and well laid out. Our mom‘s memory care apartment is also spacious and nicely laid out. Overall, Havenwood Of Richfield is a nice quality retirement community with friendly welcoming staff. For social interaction they have many occasions to meet for visits or activities with others, and have a variety of relaxing common spaces to use. Memory Care is a pleasant place and the staff works hard to be engaging, and supportive of each person’s needs. Our mother has an apartment in memory care that is spacious enough for our family to visit comfortably, enjoy meals in her apartment with her and play games at her dining table. We have even enjoyed ordering food from the kitchen in order to eat with our mother. We’ve had the meals brought to her room, out to the main dining room, and even the patio. (The hamburgers are excellent!) Havenwood of Richfield feels like a real small-town neighborhood house. Havenwood is not so big that you get lost in the facility yet big enough to meet a good variety of people. It is nestled in a quiet neighborhood which is nice for getting out doors for a walk and convenient to a number of stores and restaurants. When you walk out of your room, you definitely feel like you are meeting with the neighbors of your neighborhood. We appreciate that it has the main floor for the two wings of memory care, and has in the center, the lobby with its fireplace and seating areas, the main dining room, formal dining room, back “porch” room, mailboxes, Veterans wall, a small store for residence to pick up essential items or snack and a salon where services like podiatry are provided. We like that mom can be brought across to the other wing and participate in activities with people there which gives her variety and a feeling of being in a whole new place. She is also taken to the second floor chapel/theater room for the bimonthly church service. We like that Havenwood of Richfield is not a tall impersonal high-rise with many floors. Overall, it has very tasteful decor with a homey and welcoming atmosphere. Through seasonal touches of decor, the atmosphere is cheerful and welcoming as a home would be. The moment you walk into Havenwood of Richfield, you are met with a friendly smile. The staff get to know the residents and families by name. This helps us all feel welcome. Either through the suggestion box or direct conversations, they welcome suggestions you might have to make it an even better place to live! Havenwood helps us to feel part of a team who deeply cares about the quality of life for our mother. When residents and their families come to the main lobby they will find a counter set up with coffee, ice water, and fruit always ready and available which promote visits and connections. Fridays are popcorn day! Everyone seems to like that! You will also find a TV on above both sides of the fireplace. On the coffee side they usually have the news and the other side the TV shows beautiful scenery, wildlife or cute animals, etc.. In memory care, they have a main interactive TV which they can do multiple types of programming. They have a second TV above the fireplace that shows beautiful imagery, wildlife, nature, and cute animals. There is a patio outdoor space that gives residents an option to enjoy the sun, flowers, and walk the path. In fact, flowers are all around! At the entrance and front patio, on all three of the resident patios! Often cut flowers are arranged in small bouquets and set out on tables and counters. Flower arranging, and plant care is an activity the residents enjoy. The creative art room in Willow has a Tover interactive system for residents to play together or with their family members. Mom‘s grandson will play some of those games with her and also loves the old typewriter on the desk! As with any new place, give it time and let staff know if there’s anything you’re concerned about. They are eager to help make the transition as smooth as possible. We are very thankful for this community for our mother and for us."

"It was easy to get to Keystone Place at LaValle Fields. I was impressed. It was a multi-level place that's closer to my sister's and my place, which made a big difference to me. It was a very lovely-looking place, and I saw some of the people walking in the hallways. I got a very nice tour of the place. They showed me a studio room but when I told them the kind of care mom needed, they told me she had to be in memory care, so they showed me the memory care where the people stay and I was just kind of shocked because she would be isolated away from people. It was a nice place for people who would like to live in the apartments. It was a brand-new, very pretty place, but it was not appropriate for my mom. When we were in the memory care dining area, the residents were doing some activities. It looked like an excellent place for someone who does not need the kind of care my mom needed. "

"I went to tour the Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood. The staff was pushing my aunt more into a deeper level of memory care than she needed, and I wasn't happy about that. The rooms were big and they had a washer and dryer in the apartments. They had very nice grounds. This facility is actually very nice and big."

"Benedictine Windermere Way is a fairly new place. My daughter-in-law's mother enjoys it very much. It's very well done and it is very comfortable. It had excellent people running it. The staff was competent and the activities were excellent. As part of their COVID protocols, you have to wear a mask, put antiseptic on your hands, and keep distance from the people. So, they are very cautious with that."

"My mom is at The Lodge at White Bear, A Sky Active Living Community. They have a shuttle bus and a bus driver that would take her to her doctor's appointment. She can't drive because it's winter. Plus, we want her to stop driving, so we like having that ability to have someone drive her. They cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the room, there's no stove, but they have a microwave and a fridge. They promote socialization there, especially when they're eating. They don't want them to eat in their room. They have crafts and stuff going on pretty much every day. They had somebody come in there and read poetry when I was there. They also had somebody else come in and sing. If you want a garage, it's only $50 a month. My mom could also bring an animal. She did have a little dog, but she ended up having to re-home him. However, that was just a one-payment deposit. The payment for a one-bedroom monthly includes everything except the phone and the garage if you have a car. The lady that runs it is very, very nice. She promotes a good environment. The people there are very, very nice, too. I was there for two weeks with my mom, helping her get situated. I can't compare it to anything else, but I wouldn't mind living there. There are more women than men. My mom, who had lived in her last place for 30 years, was very nervous about moving in, but she felt very welcome. She also felt that all of the ladies were helping her. Her neighbor, who is 98 years old, is helping my mom figure out the mail and the laundry. My mom is fine now. She is feeling good about it. She is not stressed out and is not feeling lonely. They're always knocking on her door and checking on her. They also provide a Life Alert for her, and she doesn't have to pay for that. I can't say enough about them. I live in Florida, and my mom lives in Minnesota, and I would have to say it has been all very, very good. They have three options for food, and I think that's a good thing. They have someone clean their rooms once a week, and that's included in the fee, too. The staff members help my mom tremendously, and they're very, very wonderful to her. So that's all I care about. They're responsive and all that. The building is always clean, and I always see them cleaning. It doesn't smell. It's very nice for an old building. It's very well maintained. It looks really good. They have quite a few activities, and they have a new activities director. There's a lady who has been there for 10 years, and she still has a smile on her face. If you want to participate, they have a lot of different things to do, so I think it's great. The value is outstanding."

"My mother-in-law is in Heritage Place. We chose it for the friendliness and the people there. We liked the size of the room. "I toured Riverview Landing - Otsego, and I will be moving to their assisted living in a week. It's just one big building with four floors, and I will be in a little apartment on the fourth floor. Meals are included if you pay extra. The place looks clean, as far as I can tell right now. The person who showed me around was very nice. She's the only one I've met, and she's very good. They have a pool and a pickleball court. They also have activities and take the residents to outings."
