"I toured several AL homes for my grandmother and I must say this home is by far the best. The house is very spacious and clean. The residents are in shared rooms, however they have their own space to walk around they even have their own chair in the rooms. They are also provided with their own dressers to store their personal belongings. The owner is very Knowledgeable and caring for the residents. Its shows on the residents faces. When I did my tour the resident was at the table playing a game of bingo. This is more than an AL, the owner created a comfortable home for the residents."

"I toured two Arden Courts facilities and looked at their memory care, and things look a little newer and a little more polished at Arden Courts of Pikesville. They also take their seniors on field trips. They don't really do field trips in the other facility because they bring people in instead. It has mixed levels of care, but they have completely separate buildings on the campus. In every other place I've toured, the managed memory care and assisted living were in the same building, typically, just on different floors. For this facility, they had completely separate buildings with completely separate staff, kitchens, and some separation of the grounds so folks could leave the building but still be within the boundary of safety."

"This facility is exceptionall! The staff works VERY close with us to ensure mom's care needs are handled. She wasn't very active, and veryy reluctant to transition into a facility. Now she's become a social butterfly! The place is beautiful, bright and ALWAYS CLEAN! Activities are always coordinated for Mom. The Nurses and therapist are very sweet. After 2 years, I'm happy to say we've made the right choice! "

"I toured the Heritage at Augsburg. I like the inside of the community. I met four staff members, and all of them were very courteous, kind, and professional. They walked me around, and they answered my questions. I was very happy with them. We looked at the cafeteria through the door, but we did not go in. They didn't offer any food, but they said they had a food plan. I think it's $350 a month for you to eat and use the cafeteria. Outside, the grass was well cut, and everything was clean. It was easy to park, and it was easy to find, too. The rooms were very clean. I used their restrooms twice, and they were very clean. The waiting room was quiet and neat. If you didn't have a mask for COVID, they had a whole box for you. The receptionist was very courteous. The tour guide was very friendly and helpful. They have a weight room, an auditorium, and a theater. The rooms looked nice. They're a good size. I was not able to look at a two-bedroom apartment, but they have a one-bedroom apartment."

"I toured Juniper Village at Newark. I liked the rooms because they were nice, big, and spacious, and they allowed dogs. The bathroom was handicapped-accessible, so it was very big, and I wouldn't have to climb over a tub. The staff was friendly and nice. You can get the main dish they're serving, or you have a list of alternates, which I liked, but I had the main dish, shrimp, which was very good. The facility was very clean. I would change a couple of things, but I know that's a problem everywhere, so I'm not worrying about that. I like the size of the rooms. I could get a bedroom that fit my queen-sized bed with two dressers and a chair without a problem. In the living room, you could have a chair, a sofa and a TV stand. They have a lot of closet space, which some of the others didn't have."

"I chose Brightview Avondell because it's the only one in Hartford County that has an independent living facility. There's an indoor pool, a gym, and physical therapy onsite. There's assisted living if you need it. All your meals are provided. The only thing out-of-pocket that you have is your telephone. The staff I met there were very informative and easy to work with. I tried the food, and it was excellent."

"My parents moved into Merion Village. It's a fantastic community, the facilities are immaculate, and the management has been extremely helpful in getting my parents situated in their apartment. Plus, even though it's independent living, there is a lot of support from other sources like the Office on Aging and the county because they come to the building and do activities with the residents, totally free. So, they have some senior activities where they can participate while still having their privacy and independence. They do have a huge kitchen, which is a community kitchen, but then it's up to the residents if they want to participate in any activity that would involve food. But in terms of them personally, they do not provide any food or any dining area for them. It's all in their apartments. The building in itself has a gym. They have a pickleball court. They have an area where they can play, like bocce ball or other things, so there's some active side to it. Once or twice a month, you get people who come in and do things like chair aerobics or drum exercises, but those come from outside sources, not from the facilities themselves. You have different people who will set up appointments to come, and the residents can participate in activities in the building. We are completely satisfied with the upkeep. The place is clean. So, they always have someone cleaning all the common areas, elevators, everything. We have no complaints whatsoever."

"We will be living in Brightview Perry Hall. It offered the amenities that were attractive to my husband and I. The staff and the residents were friendly, outgoing, and engaging. The facility was immaculate. The location was great. The things that we looked for were all there. There are a lot of social engagements. They go to different plays and activities within the community, movies and musicals, and games. We visited like 10 different facilities in that area and we were so impressed. We did senior-oriented condominiums and senior living communities. We didn't have a meal there, but they did offer soup and it was excellent. It was a clam seafood soup and it wasn't part of a meal. It was just a part of saying thank you."

"I found out about Chapel Springs Apartments because I have a friend that lives there. The amenities are very good. They have a gym and fitness room. They have a billiard room. The seats in the lobby are very nice. They have security where you can't come in and let somebody let you in. That's one of the things that turned me on, with the security. You can't just walk into their building. Someone has to know that you're coming, lives in the building or somebody in the office knows that you're coming. Like, maybe for something that needs to be taken care of in the building, but no one can just walk in. My friend has been there for years and she had been trying to get me to come to visit her, and I finally went to see her, I think it was in January, or early February. I liked the way that you have parking. They have reserved parking places for the residents. The appliances are provided. You have a refrigerator, oven range, and microwave. So you don't need to bring any appliances of your own. You just move in with your other furniture. The staff that I talked to, two of them, and customer service-wise, were very professional, and very informational. She cooks her own meals. I know they have a room, like, if you wanted to have a family affair or something, or a celebration of some kind. I think you have access to that. Very clean. Decorative. When you walk in, you don't think you're walking into senior citizen housing. The fragrance was wonderful. It was just good. When I saw they have flowers in the hallways, it was like they were trying to make it a home for you. It's a very good substitute for it because I didn't feel like I was in a senior citizen housing apartment building. I felt like I was going to visit somebody younger than me."

"I toured Glen Meadows Retirement Community. It was very, very nice. It was gorgeous inside, and they made the rooms look like new before each resident moved in. At that time, you actually had to purchase the apartments. It was a three-room apartment consisting of a bedroom, a living room, and a small kitchenette. Then they could move to continuing care from there. The only bad thing about it was that my father is legally blind, and he would have to make his way down this long hall to an elevator, which he could not do because he could not see. However, the place was lovely. The dining room even looked like a restaurant, with all the napkins on the table and you order what you want. The grounds were also lovely. The lady who I dealt with, she was also very lovely. It just wasn't a good fit for my dad."

"We went to Oak Crest. They only have apartments. There's no housing whatsoever, but they do have facilities where they take care of you if anything happens. We took the tour, and I said to my husband, "There is no way I can live in a teeny tiny room like that. No way." If we're going to go there, we want a place on the main floor so we can walk out because we have a dog. I don't want to run up and down an elevator with my dog. Also, they didn't have anything available, and what they did have, I didn't like, and neither did my husband. We went to lunch with my daughter's in-laws that live there. They have a one-bedroom with a den apartment. The den is off the kitchen. It's open, and there are no walls. There is just a half-wall between the kitchen and the den, so if somebody is watching TV or in the kitchen, you don't have anywhere to go except in the bedroom, and who wants to do that? Not me. The lady that gave us the tour was fine. She knew what she was doing. She was informed. The place was immaculate, too."
