Independent Living Communities in Bloomington, IL

"This is a new facility to the community, about five to seven years in service. It is affiliated with my Mother In-Law's church, though anyone can reside there. There are three levels of living, Independent Living, Assisted Living, which my Mother In-Law is in, and Full Time Nursing Care. The staff are very kind and knowledgeable. It seems like most every staff member knows every resident. It is clean and brightly lite. They cater to every need the residents have that is within reason. Residents can have three meals a day in lovely dining areas (plus private banquet rooms if family comes to visit). The food is top notch. Plus they provide residents cleaning services if needed. We have recommended this facility to our friends parents, who now live there. It is a wonderful place where you know your loved ones will be safe and well taken care of. "

"Family friendly environment. The staff will treat you like you were their own family . The rooms are amazing and the perfect size with multiple options to choose from . Residents enjoy all the activities including music programs , bingo and gardening . Therapy services , lab services , nurse practitioner services , laundry , cleaning , transportation etc are all available in-house . It’s been a blessing to be able to work in this place with wonderful people around me all the time . My husband teases me all the time because I’m jamming in my car before I get to work every day . Exciting place to work !!! Love it !!!"

"We visited Bloomington Towanda Barnes Villas and Reflections. My mom is very particular, and she's very impressed. It's brand-new and has all the features. She knows some people there. Kathy was the person who accommodated us during our tour, and she was very informative and friendly. We saw just about every aspect of the place. We stopped by the dining area and talked to the chef there. We also talked to the people who live there. It's pretty organized for a brand-new place. They have plenty of TVs and plenty of room to play cards, board games, and just a social visit with coffee and stuff. It had a spacious dining room and a special family room for special occasions."

"I visited Meadows Mennonite Home's skilled nursing but for memory care. Overall, it is very good. It's a little dated, but they have a newer part. The staff members that I interacted with seemed very nice. They have sitting areas, one outside and one inside. The beds were like hospital beds, but the residents can set the room and decorate it up how they want to. They also take Medicaid."

"I moved to Maple Lawn Homes, and I liked the cottage I moved into. I felt I was leaving one home and going into another, which had a garage and several rooms, even though it was smaller than the house I left. That's what turned me on to this home, besides living in an apartment. They supply a dishwasher, a microwave, a stove, and a washer and a dryer. When I moved in, it was clean and repainted. I have a fan in my bedroom and living room, which is nice. I'm on one level, but I have an extended balcony where I can sit outside. The staff does the landscaping around my house for me and everything like that. I'm in a cottage duplex, so I have my nearest neighbor. Her garage is attached to mine. There's a group of houses like that and then individual houses that you can buy in as a community, but I wasn't interested in that. I have a dog, a cat, and a bird, and I was allowed to have all of them without restrictions. I've only encountered two staff members who introduced themselves to me. One was the maintenance man who set up my TV. He came with a lady and introduced her, and she was the landscaper. Everybody's been very helpful."

"We have just moved my mom into Hopedale Commons (East). Everything was very positive. The room is very nice. It has just been remodeled. New bathroom cabinets and countertops. Everything had been painted. I like the vinyl floor more than the old carpeting that was in some of the units we looked at. This one had been updated and had vinyl flooring, which works better for walkers and chairs. Everything was good with the unit. I asked my mom how the food was and she said the food was good. The staff were very responsive and answered all the questions when we were looking at it. I saw some card games going on and a lot of people exercising in the hallways, like walking laps. Everything has been updated, well kept, and clean. The exterior was well-kept. It looks like they have some group things. I looked at assisted living, they have movies and trips and stuff like that, but with independent living, everyone can still have a car or has their family can come and pick them up and such. It was very reasonable for what we looked at out there. They have assisted living right in the building next door, so if that progressed that was available to my mom also. "

"This is the best kept secret in the Metamora/Peoria area! My brother Ken, a cancer survivor, now requires a rollator/walker to navigate indoors & out. He had used Snyder Village's Home care (which is wonderful) for several months and moved into a cottage at Snyder Village in January 2020. Emptying his home and the move was so smooth. Snyder Village has a mover they work with and they subsidized the cost of the move. Snyder refurbished the cottage prior to the move and their maintenance department made any adjustments needed for his handicapped needs immediately, that day. Ken loves the home cooked type food with lots of variety. He can eat at the Bistro and order from a menu or have meals delivered to his cottage, which was handy over the winter. Ken has found it so easy to give up his home of 52 years -- because he feels safe at Snyder Village. With pull cords available to get help and phone messaging he is in contact with staff almost daily. And he gets quick response. There are daily activities and entertainment available if he chooses to participate. But most days, he is just content to have his private life in the cottage. The attached garage is a plus. Ken says it is the best move he ever made. And his brother and I who live up to 3 hours away are so relieved. We know he is happy and in a safe and caring place. "
