"Oakmont of San Jose was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful. They had more amenities and activities than you can imagine like a cafeteria, games, and socialization. They were finishing up a snack like a brownie that they had baked. I loved the community, but it was out of our price range."

"I visited Chateau Cupertino, and a nice lady assisted us. I liked that the residents appeared happy and friendly there. Unfortunately, the rooms were very small. I would only be able to fit a small couch and TV in there; there's no room for furniture. They don't have many activities (they only have one field trip a month). They also don't have a lot of patios to walk out on or other things like that."

"Westmont Milpitas is extremely clean. It has an indoor pool. The food is good. There's a lot of activities. Mom's apartment is great. She has a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, a walk-in shower, a walk-in closet, a good-sized room, and an eating bar. The staff is really good. I like them. The only problem we're running into is her apartment number isn't listed with the post office, which is weird, but they're working on that. They have a book club, a movie theater, field trips where they go shopping, and bingo, so they have a lot of stuff. Internet and cable are included, too."

"The reason why we chose Villa Fontana for my mother-in-law is, first of all, it's close to the home, and actually the rooms are a good size. They're open, bright, and well-lit. They have nice lighting. They have a little balcony for each of the residents, so that's nice. My mother-in-law can get out on her little balcony and get some fresh air. Their outdoor space in the middle is really nice. The only person that we really had any interaction with was Jan, and she was great and helpful. The facility seemed busy and active, versus some other places that we went into where everything was kind of quiet. We actually saw residents out and talking, and they seemed to be happy there. The cost was considerably less from the place that we were moving her from. I'm thinking that it's probably going to be pretty comparable to where we're moving my mother-in-law from, and at a significant saving for her estate, which is for her care, but her money will go longer. Right now, she is in a facility that's owned by a big corporation, and Villa Fontana is owned by a family. Because it's a family, they're more flexible. They're more willing to work with us or be flexible with what we need, whereas where she is at now, it's a corporation, and you're just a number sort to speak, and there's not that flexibility."

"I live in Atria, and my wife used to live here too. It is very good. The facilities are nice, and the service is good. The food is good as well. The staff is good. The rooms are no better than the average. But the landscaping of the grounds is very nice, and the atmosphere is very nice as well. The activities are good, but I just don't participate in a whole lot of them. "

"The Watermark at Almaden was very nice. However, for my friend's needs, it was overpowering with activities and size. It was beautiful, but I would not have chosen it only because of its size and the fact that it was not something that my friend needed. The staff was very nice. The lunch I had was very nice, but I sat by myself. They had many activities. There were huge rooms everywhere. They had a library, game rooms, and theaters. It was a beautiful facility. I can't say that I found anything out of order or anything. The director did a good job. I was just a little disappointed that he didn't join me for lunch, but maybe he had other things to do. Upkeep and cleanliness were wonderful."

"I liked that it was on a big lot of property. I did like the security and the safety measures set up at their facility. The staff was nice, and I liked them a lot. They probably offered the most activities that I have seen. They had the most programming scheduled for their memory care. So, they would give my father a lot of opportunities to be outside and do a lot of the landscaping and work in the yard. Their staff was the best I've seen. I liked the space that it's in and the surroundings. They had a nice big yard. I liked their activities. I would rather see their memory care a little bit better, but honestly, it's not different than anybody else's. They're all small and they're all cramped."

"Carlton Plaza is like a resort. I saw their one bedroom and it’s beautiful. The dining room was like a fine restaurant. They do have a memory care section. I had no issue with them as far as cleanliness. The staff was great; they have really nice people that showed me around and gave me information. They were very responsive, but the price was outrageous. It was closer to me though. "

"Grew up right down the street from BridgePoint. For years I didn't even know there was an assisted living facility there. It sits in a quaint residential area, and is surrounded by trees and greenery. I've been inside the facility on several occasions. I've voted there, volunteered there, and have recently visited the facility with friends who have elderly loved ones there. I've heard great feedback about the community. One of my best friend's grandmother moved there after her husband passed. She was incredibly resistant and caused the family a great deal of heartache. Despite this, she's grown to love her life at BridgePoint. From what I understand this is an expensive community; but the family is very happy with the service they're receiving. "

"Regency of Evergreen Valley is a fairly modern community and was under new ownership about seven years ago. We chose this place because they had no deficiencies as far as fire inspections are concerned. Another reason was because of their nurse director Stephanie H's dedication to memory care patients. I had three meals there with my wife and they were all excellent."

"The Vi is a continuing care community, but I can speak only to the Skilled Nursing portion. I was there for a month for rehab after surgery at Stanford. It was excellent! My mom was in a good one on the East Coast, and I was her caregiver and there A LOT so have familiarity with them. The ratio of CNAs to patients at the Vi was much more favorable than what I was used to with Mom's. When I pressed the call button, someone usually answered within a minute, and a CNA or nurse would be in momentarily. They were uniformly caring and competent. The Vi contracts for the OTs and PTs - and I had excellent ones! There was only one substitute PT I didn't care for, but didn't have to see him again. The facility is very attractive, with many outdoor areas (my room looked out at a small courtyard). The Skilled Nursing rooms are smaller than Mom's was, that's my only nit-picky complaint. The food was above average for institutional food. Overall, can highly recommend their Skilled Nursing. "

"I thought the ambiance at Cogir of Fremont Senior Living was great. There was a lot of energy there, more so than in other communities. They had a lot of different activities, and it seemed like the seniors participated in them, which is not the case everywhere. They have a nice dining hall with a lot of options and a menu that changes. The quality of the food is not amazing, but it's pretty good. The rooms are nicely laid out. They are in the process of remodeling. They had a lot of really great amenities. When my grandmother is ready to move in, I think this is where she would like to go. It's a perfect independent living facility, and they do have some assisted living available for folks who want to move into it. The tour staff is very sweet and helpful."
