Memory Care Reviews for Charter Senior Living of Vernon Hills

I visited this facility
I liked that Charter Senior Living of Vernon Hills was all memory care. It's a nice facility with very nice people. The residents seemed happy, but it was too small. It didn't have any of the amenities. They didn't even have a happy hour, so I wouldn't want to come there and visit my wife. One of the things that I'm thinking about when checking out a place is if it is a place that I like to start visiting my wife several times a week? This was close to my house, and they were nice; but I wouldn't want to go there, and the price was never completely agreed upon either.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
My sister is in hospice care at Charter Senior Living of Vernon Hills. Overall, it's a very nice place, and I'm very pleased. With the lockdown, they are understaffed, but they keep us informed. They're very caring and very loving. We couldn't be happier. It's a small place with not many beds. It's like a big house, and it's very homey. They take precautions. I've never had any problems at all, so we're happy about that. It's just a few minutes from my house, which is very convenient. It's just very expensive.

I visited this facility
Charter Senior Living of Vernon Hills was charming and beautiful, and we were made to feel very comfortable there when my husband and I visited. My concern was that my friend just came out of rehab, so physical therapy was probably our utmost concern, and also their dietary plans made us rule it out. It was a very starch driven and a very pork product driven diet, and there was very limited apparatus, staff, and everything else for physical therapy. The rooms were terrific and beautiful. They take the residents out to go bowling at a local bowling alley, they do a lot of arts and crafts, and they had a group of ladies doing flower arranging. The activities were fine. If we were just looking for memory care, I would've been fine with it, but they're very deficient in physical therapy.
Provider Response
Thank you very much for the kind review! We do our best to make our community a home for those living with dementia. I am sorry you were unable to see the full scope of our menu as it changes regularly under the guidance of Grove Menu’s and our dietitian. We featured a variety of meats this week including Salisbury Steak, Grilled Chicken, and Roasted Turkey. Today we had a traditional corn beef and cabbage lunch to celebrate St. Patty's Day! Our starches also vary depending upon nutrition ratios. Overall, we do our best to provide a balanced diet. As it pertains to physical therapy, we do have a designated area set up for outpatient therapy, but take a very specific approach to address cognitive impairments. Our residents are living with dementia and we have found that we have better outcomes through functional therapy methods. As with all communities, we are grateful to care for our residents and hope you found a great home for your loved one. Should anything change, please do not hesitate to contact us! We are happy to figure out how we can meet your needs! All the best!
