I have been a resident for approximately 2 months. I found the U Chicago medicine doctors and NPs to be extremely responsive and professional, with close to 5/7 days coverage. The Nursing and CNA staff, while feeling their profession shortage like all other healthcare facilities, really step up to the plate to ensure quality care. Aurelia, Octavia, Andrea, and Marcia are but a few Nurse stand outs! It's encouraging to see the team work together for example: case manager, unit managers, social service, and of course administration. I the pleasure of interacting regularly with the DON and Administrator. They were prompt, attentive, and when I had a few issues, provided brisk resolve.

My mom is now at Symphony South Shore. She has been there for rehab for three weeks now. The room is very nice, and the community room is very accommodating for families to have a semi-private affair there. When you come as a visitor, the staff gives a good response in addressing whatever needs to get handled. As for the food, there is not enough consideration for her needed diet. For instance, she has gout and pasta can inflame gout, and she'll receive food that has pasta as a filler in the food. I had to point out to my mother that it is not that you have this terrible disease called gout, instead, it's that the food you're being served has been impacting the inflammation.

The Renaissance has a bad odor, it was not clean, and I brought all of that to their attention. You can wipe the dust out of the cabinet. I told them to have my uncle ready for pick up, and when I got there he wasn’t ready. This happened twice. I liked that they provided good therapy for my uncle. I don’t think they do very well with the patients; they don’t have compassion, and they don’t care about the people there.

I visited Renaissance. The rooms and apartments were very nice. I liked that they were clean. They had friendly people and good staff.

Right now my dad is at Renaissance at South Shore for rehab. They keep him pretty active there. This facility makes sure that he doesn't spend the day lying in bed and that he participates in therapy. The center itself is nice and clean. It has a homey atmosphere. My family can get to visit my dad because this facility is right in my neighborhood. Their rooms are clean. My dad is in a semi-private where he has a roommate, which is nice actually. He has someone to keep him company there.

My mother was blessed to attend the best day care on the South Side of Chicago. Even though she had Alzheimers, she enjoyed dancing, singing, field trips, and even bowling. As her caregiver, I benefitted from the informative support group meetings, and enjoyed knowing she was receiving compassionate care in a home-like setting. The wonderful staff truly lived up to their motto: Sharing The Caring. Karen Sweatt, daughter
