Except for the physical therapy department getting the care our mom needed was a constant battle. We asked for basic skin care cleanliness and toileting of our mom. The staff is antagonistic in general. They try to do as little as possible. Our goals was to do all we could to get our mom home after her stroke. The dieticians orders were ignored, food was spoiled at times, often no silverware, and requested food was not given. Getting a bath 3 times a week as stated would be done became a battle., had to ask for position changes and they were not done every 2 hours We had to fight to get mom placed on a toilet, even when she asked 5 times. Once she moved off the first floor, the staff refused to toilet her and made her soil herself. There were cockroaches, bathrooms smelled horrible, observed housekeeping many times not clean rooms and literally mop with out sweeping floors first. There was an excellent aide on nights on the first floor and a few others but by and large it was a horrible experience. And it was at the bargain price of 8000.00 plus per month. So grateful to have her out of there. Patients we met in courtyard and on front porch told us it is "hell" if your mom leaves 1st floor. Unfortunately they were right. Complaints and formal action with the state to follow.

My mother is at Southern Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. We chose it because they had a bed available. They're really friendly, the place is really clean, and the staff is really nice. They do trivia, they play bingo, and they were having an ice cream party the day we got there. They seem to do quite a bit. The director of admissions sat down with us and went over everything. It's a four-floor building, and each floor has their own activity person. She spent a good 10 minutes with us and she was really nice. The aides were nice as well. We didn't have any issue with any of the staff.

I have been here on 2 of 3 shifts. Always happy to see smiles on people's faces and they are happy to be here. I have asked a few CNAS some questions like how long have you worked here, how long have you been a CNA/ Nurse and one stood out. Mari was busy answering a light and a one of the people stopped her as she was about to go in the room for some help. Mari quickly flashed a smile and in a kind voice." I will help you as soon as I answer this light. "The person rolled into the 1st floor dine room.. no more 5 minutes later she came and was " sorry, that was a bit longer than I had thought how can I help you.? " He was quiet and shared he was "wet" and needed to get dried. Mari was happy, kind and never tried to shame the person but took a "bib" covered his lap and took him down the hall to his room to change him. I could see he was happy she was willing to help and later asked how long has she been there and how long a CNA she have been 20yrs.... they need more kind hearts like her that are there for the long term and really can see they love their jobs and the people they take care. I would say I would hope Mari would get a raise but that is up to the them. I know I would value her 1000%

Southern oaks is a place to put your family member if you want them to die. They put on a good face with respite or rehabilitaion or self pay on the first floor. As soon as you move them on the upper floors you enter the torture chambers. My mom went from someone who had moderate allzheimers to an almost catatonic zombie who cries. They leave her in a strait back wheelchair all day. Her back was hurting her so bad that she was crying hard. Weve asked them to lay her down at times but instead they decided to put her on a pain patch that could literally kill her if she gets too hot. She is still sitting all day in that straight back chair. They have lost tons of her clothes and then we find them on other residents. The workers are horrible!! They are rude, and order us in a nasty manner out of the room whenever they need to do anything for her. They never had a problem with asking us to help with her before we made a complaint. Since then the whole group of them are nasty. I am in tears everytime I leave there. One day when I was visiting my mom there was ensure on the floor and some lazy little worker (who you could tell hated her job ) literally dragged a water-soaked mop in the dining area to clean it up. It took 20 minutes ,mind you, to even attempt to clean it up. They just walked around it. After her poor attempt to clean it up, she left the floor still soaked. I watched one of residences walk in and slip on the wet floor and fall face first. Instead of helping get her up, one of the nurses bent over her and said I'm not getting you up until you tell me where you are hurt. Clearly there was a split on her face. She also split the skin on her knee and arm which was bleeding thru her clothes. Nobody asked any of us what happened. I saw them shortly after the fall all standing together talking in low voices. My mom has been there for 6 months and has lost over 50 pounds. They don't give her enough to drink...ever. When she does get anything to drink it's concentrated juice or the visiting family members get her water. We have come in and found her just sitting in front of her food. My mom can not feed herself but those nasty, hateful girls are just sitting totally ignoring her. We have made numerous complaints to the ones in charge but all they do is protect their own. To neglect the resident and mistreat their grieving family members is a horrible thing to do (no matter their race, religion). If it weren't for my dad standing in the way of my moving my mom, she would already be in another facility. I will continue to try to convince him that this place is not fit for an animal much less our mother. Please, everyone reading this...PLEASE! If you love your family member do your research on this place or any other one that you are considering. There are facilities that only care about the money and this is one of them. May God be with you and your loved one.

Please don't be fooled. This is a horrible please to put your love one. The staff is rude and nasty toward the families. And don't treat the patience very well either. The patience look unkapt and hair looks nasty. I can smell pee and poop all the time. The CNA don't care for my parent at all. The CNA 7-11 wear those plugs in their ears listening to music and don't go and see why the alarms are going off left and right. I am working on getting my love one out of that crazy uncaring place. It don't do any good reporting anyone. I stay so upset about how my love one is treated. It's another law suit waiting to happen. Please please don't be fooled.

Dont be fooled....This is not where you want to place your loved ones. Residents tend to be dirty an unkept...dietary is lacking terribly...frequently residents are without linen to sleep on or bathe with. Please look more carefully and don't be fooled by administrators...money is the bottom line!
