My mother has moved into The Lorelton. She has, at the moment, a private bedroom and bath. The people seem very nice and into their work. It's just been a little easier on us not living at home now and getting somebody else to take care of her, and they keep a good eye on her. They have in-house physicians, and they've done well so far for the short time that we've dealt with them. She's doing fine. There are other residents and she communicates with them when they have their activities or mealtimes. It is a memory care unit. It's locked down, she's not free to escape. They have daily activities and they get her down with the general population when they're staffed well enough for other activities, movies, those type of events. I would love to see a little bit more, but they keep her active and a close eye on her. The meals are on time and they're nice meals. It's an exceptionally old school, but you go inside and the walls are painted brightly with murals and scenery.

About The Lorelton in Wilmington, Delaware
Built in 1932, The Lorelton building was originally the historic Charles B. Elementary School. Taking up and entire city block, our amazing architectural structure gives our residents not only a great deal of space but each apartment features high ceilings and literally endless walls of windows. The Lorelton is owned by a Foundation not a chain. We are Non-Profit so we keep our rates reasonable. We are locally owned and managed so we have the flexibility to incorporate our resident's wants and needs into their day rather than rules dictated by a corporate VP via conference call. I visited a lot of assisted living places in New Castle County and ended up choosing the Lorelton and glad I did. They have many upgrades in progress that will make it even better. The administrator was very helpful with pricing and selection of the right apartment for my 96 year old Mother. My mother is checked on every hour or more. The food selection is great. She has only been there for four months and she is more alive and with it then ever. She is up and dressed before breakfast and ready for a full day of exciting activities. Simply the BEST !

The Lorelton was a very nice and very clean facility. The people that we spoke to were very accommodating. They were just limited on the number of rooms that were available based on what we were looking for. The facility used to be an old school. From the outside there were updates that needed to be done, and I think they were talking about replacing windows. Right when you walk in the front door, they could also fix that up to be a little bit more welcoming to guests. The rest was very well kept up. The people that we met were very helpful, very accommodating, and very knowledgeable. They have a courtyard. It was smaller, but it was very, very nice, very well kept, and maintained.

We went to The Lorelton. It seemed like all the staff there were really friendly. It was very clean. The place looked like a home away from home. I thought it was a great place. The rooms were nice, they were like apartments. They had a nice greenhouse for those who want to plant. They had activities every day. They just had a really nice gala, like a Christmas carol. It was really cute. I was really disappointed they didn't accept my mom. What they need to improve on is communication. Like they never got back to me to tell me that we weren't accepted into the community. I thought we had a good rapport (myself and the admissions person), but she could have called me back and just said, 'hey, you didn't get accepted.' That was the only disappointing part about The Lorelton.

I was very happy with The Lorelton. The person who did the tour was excellent. I liked the fact that it was an older building, which I think my mother will like. They converted an old school into a center, and they put a lot of work into it. I was impressed with the memory care. The rooms were reasonably sized and had very high ceilings. It was very clean. It was carpeted and had its own bathroom. It was nice. The dining area was also very nice. They had a room where everybody can go in to sit, relax, and socialize.

Lorelton. Quite a place, if you’re elderly and need some assistance. My brother Tom is still acclimatizing to Lorelton, after nearly eighty years of living on his own. In his second year, he serves on a committee or two and can always get the ear of the Director, and the Chiefs of Operations. Kind of hard to get them to change stuff, but they listen to him. And they care about him. His aches and his troubles. Tom can talk to a nurse, talk to a cook, and they listen too. Lorelton is quite the place to live, if you’re old and need some help getting around. Just ask the folks who live there.

Feels like home when you can't be home any longer. Facility is clean & cheerfully decorated. Consistent maintenance and recent upgrades to the lobby, entrance and carpeting throughout . Everyone from security through administrator know the residents and what is going on in their lives. Provides a friendly, happy, secure place to live.

The staff and residents are all very friendly and helpful. When my 91 yr old mother moved in, she was hesitant to go to the dining hall because she didn't know anyone. The staff noticed this and every day someone would go to her room and walk with her to the dining hall until she made friends and felt comfortable.

I took my father to the Lorelton after two difficult months of trying to care for him in my own home. The nursing director and her deputy had seen him on a good day and thought he would be a candidate for assisted living. He had trouble right away, and the nursing director went out of her way to make sure he was safe and comfortable, posting a nurse's aide to watch him overnight. By the next day he had begun to adjust. I think they saved his life. Now a month later he seems happy there, and I know he is well cared for in a charming building. He enjoys the meals and snacks. But mostly it is the warmth and caring of the staff that keeps us all going.

The Lorelton is a truly excellent facility with outstanding staff. The different units offer flexibility to the residents, and the staff support - nursing, food, maintenance and more - is outstanding. The place operates with everyone connected to many types of activities and to one another. Everyone is justifiably proud to be a part of the operation. We consider it to be our best decision made this year.

This is a relatively small and well-kept facility where everyone on the extremely caring staff knows every resident. I just took my mom to her eye doctor who said that Lorelton is one of the few residences where he has never been concerned that his patients will receive their eye drops as ordered. I know my mom is comfortable, safe and well cared-for.

The Lorelton provides good care, lots of activities and the staff is friendly and patient. The rooms are beautiful and the director works hard to ensure that the air quality is as virus free as possible. A big plus during these pandemic times.

The Lorelton in Wilmington's facility was very charming and well maintained. The staff seems to know the residents quite well and cares about them. What was especially nice is that it does not feel institutional. The residents can have some of their furniture or something important to them outside their door and it makes it very charming. It does not seem like an institutional assisted living place at all. The memory care wing is especially lovely. It has lots of light, is beautiful, and has beautiful artwork and paintings. The people I interacted with there seemed like they felt safe and they interacted with us. It was a very, very positive visit, both at the assisted living and the memory care side. I know some people who have lived there. I have talked to them about the meals and they are perfectly happy with it

The Lorelton was an older and unique building, but it was nice. The rooms were OK. They were comfortable and nice, too. The dining room was very nice. I met their manager. The place was a little dated; they need to spruce up some of the common areas that were outdated.

Mom is very well cared for and seems to be thriving in her new environment. She was moved due to her condition from assisted living to memory care at the recommendation of The Lorelton. They were very understanding during this time of transition. The staff members are accommodating, easy to deal with, and flexible. They also have a sense of humor. The food is good. It is an older building but they do their best to keep up with it. It is lacking grounds to go outside, but they have good activities.

Attention to residents is tops. Good food. I have been here in The Lorelton going on nine years now. I really enjoy it. I like the people who work here and I enjoy being here. Food is nice. You get three meals a day and you don't have to pay for the food. I'm very happy and comfortable. We have 24-hour service. I'm very satisfied.

Excellent. Great staff and the care is personal. The administration is awesome to work with and make sure they help you any way they can. For us, the Lorelton is an additional home and the people like family. That is how they treat us. My mom is in their memory care level right now.

The beautiful memory care dazzled the eye! The rooms are filled with natural light. The staff is terrific from the front desk and throughout the facility, residents (and often visitors) are greeted warmly by name. He had wonderful care here.

I liked The Lorelton. It was a very nice community but we're not going to be able to afford that. The person who took us around was very nice, informative, and we appreciated that she took a lot of time with us. The rooms were nice and it seemed like we could personalize it if we wanted to, which I liked. It also seemed like there was enough space. I liked the dining room setup, which was cheerful and nice.

The Lorelton was a nice, open facility but we were in need of a memory care unit which was not in place yet. The rooms that were being put together for the memory care unit and the assisted living were very reasonable. You had sun in the morning and in the evening on whichever side of the building you were on, plus basic amenities. It looked like they were in the process of upgrading and are a project under construction.

The Lorelton is great. They have lovely rooms of different sizes wherein people need to bring their furniture. It is an old building, but they keep it lovely. They have things going on every day. They sang Christmas carols and have Bingo and all kinds of things. My mother is not a bingo person but she does go to the musical things, and they have children who come in and sing. The food is very good. They have their own nursing staff, which is very good, and they offer therapy for my mother.

The Lorelton was very nice, but it wasn't for us. The staff treated us very nicely, and they were very friendly and accommodating. It only had apartments, and it was not what I was interested in. The place was clean and modern, and it didn't have a nursing home smell at all. The parking was not very good because it was a street parking.

The Lorelton was beautifully decorated with really friendly and welcoming staff. They had a beautiful dining room. It's an old historic school in the City of Wilmington that was converted into rooms and apartments. I toured with one of the sales managers who was very friendly. It was a large, lovely facility with bright hallways, well lit with big bright beautiful windows in all of the apartments. They had lots of activities like gardening outside, sponsored movies, clubs and groups, and trips outside the facility. They also had a craft room. Regular groups go together based on interests and hobbies that were expressed by the residents, and clubs were formed around the collective interest of the community, not just a social worker or an activities director. The apartments were just so bright with high ceilings and big, beautiful windows.

Lorelton was the one that I liked the best, but it was very expensive. The rooms were very large. I had a meal there of prime rib, and it was excellent. They seemed to have a lot of activities going on. There was a lot of interaction and games for the residents. I was impressed with the size of it, the courtesy of the staff, and the fact that people seemed happy there.

The Lorelton is a nice facility, and my father seems well adjusted. The staff is very helpful, and they have nurses. They have very nice and clean apartments. He has a one-bedroom apartment. The dining room is the one thing we really like, which looks like a restaurant. They have a lot of different things everyday -- trips to the casino, to the grocery store, to the restaurant -- and they have walks.
