I visited this facility

Arden Courts of Wilmington is clean, neat, and organized, but it's old-fashioned. The furniture inside is old. The rooms are very, very tiny. When I was there around 10:00 in the morning, there wasn't much activity going on. They say there's a lot of stuff going on, but I didn't see much. The ceilings are low, and there are all these wood doors. They showed me a room that was empty and available, and it was kind of depressing. They have outdoor gardens, an onsite doctor who comes once a week, and a PA who comes twice a week, which is good. Everybody's very nice.

Provider Response

Hi Glenn, we would like the opportunity to address your comments. Please reach out to us when you have a chance. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We looked at a number of places and felt that Arden Courts would be the best. It was a good value with everything included in the price. For an institution, the food had good variety and was plentiful and accommodated those on a special diet. Most importantly, the staff was very helpful and caring and some of them went out of their way. While my father couldn't take advantage of them, there were many activities available for residents---day and evening. The rooms are drab but the common facilities and grounds are lovely.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing! We are glad to hear you were happy with your father's care and appreciate your kind words regarding our staff, activities and our facility in general.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother moved to Arden Courts in 2011. She has been a resident of Arden Courts for over two years now. Her dementia prevents her remembering where she is or why she is here. The caregivers and all staff interact with my mother in a positive, friendly manner. They smile and treat mom with respect. Before each of the many daily activities, a staff member tells mom about the activity and asks her if she would like to join in the activity. Mom participates in many activities, such as chair exercises, painting and other art projects, sing-along, bingo, word games, story telling, balloon volleyball, manicures, resident birthday parties, pet visits, and worship services. Mom especially likes the out trips when residents travel by bus to a restaurant, park, musical performance, museum, or a scenic ride. Mom receives much more mental stimulation than she received in her house three years ago when she had only one in-home care provider at a time. Now, the increased interaction appears to have slowed mom's mental decline and it definitely elevates her mood. I recommend Arden Courts for your loved one with memory loss issues.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My father recently became a resident of this facility due to his dementia. I visited in August 2011. I was impressed by how homey the facility appears. It does not look institutional at all. I was also impressed that the residents have access to a safe outdoor area. I spoke briefly with the activities director, a physical therapist, and a nurse. All of the staff were kind and seemed committed to offering the best service possible to the residents. I also attended a support group meeting. These meetings are available not only to friends and relatives of residents but to any others. It was definitely helpful to hear about the experiences of others. The ones with residents at Arden Court had only positive comments. Although my father's experiences are now very limited by his dementia I believe that Arden Court is doing everything possible to make his life experiences positive. I would definitely recommend this facility for individuals who need memory care.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My neighbor's mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 6 years ago and since my neighbor isn't in good health herself, she was unable to care for her mother at home. She found Arden Courts on the recommendation of her PCP and couldn't be happier. I've gone with her often to visit her mother and we always find her clean, dressed, and most of the time she is engaged in an activity with other residents. We have visited at different times of the day and different days of the week and the result is the same quality of care every time. The one detriment to this facility is the cost; it is only private pay, no Medicaid or insurance supplements, and it it quite expensive. However, it is 100% secure, there is such a minimal chance of her mother wandering away that the cost is really peace of mind. If you can afford it, Arden Courts is a very good alternative to a typical nursing home.
