My wife is in Excelcare at Newark. She's had two showers that I know of. She's getting some limited physical therapy. I think she needs a lot more. She doesn't like the place mainly because she doesn't like the food. They've got her on a restricted diet, and she ends up eating the same thing over and over again. She's just been in her bed pretty constantly. They took her out to the physical therapy room. Otherwise, she's just getting the physical therapy in her room. She's in a shared room. I haven't really interacted a whole lot with the staff. I've been there a couple of times when they took her vitals and that's about it. Cleanliness is OK. They go to the rooms and they gather people up, put them in a wheelchair, and take them out. There's like a community room where they eat and do other things. They'll sit them by a window. They can't do anything. I think she needs more rehab, but it has to be supervised. I realize they only have a couple of people that give physical therapy. They can't spend all day with her, and I understand that. More staff would be better.

My mother is living in here; it is very nice. They are very caring, and they seemed to take very good care of her. It’s bright, cheery, and it’s very clean. They are very kind, caring, and there is always somebody close at hand to even just to stop and chat with her and try to boost her spirits, so we have been very happy with it. My mother and another woman are in one room, and the space is good. She loves the food there; it’s very good, and it’s almost like they are going to a restaurant. They have a menu for every meal, and I think they have a couple of choices. They always have a few things just in case; she can always get grilled cheese or soup or something. I think that’s one of the pluses; she really seems to enjoy the food. Every morning they do a session called keep it sharp; they get the residents in a room, read a newspaper, and they discuss different articles in the newspaper. They do karaoke and arts and crafts, and it seems pretty active there.
