My mother is in Ellis Manor. I think it is serving her very well. They are taking good care of her. However, it is struggling like a lot of the nursing homes. They’re struggling right now because of funding, and it is not their fault. However, the overall care is excellent. They’re taking very good care of my mother. She needs more care now than she did before. My mother has her own her room, but she shares a bathroom with somebody else. It is not spacious because it’s a nursing home, but she has a TV and her bed. It is nothing like living in a facility, but they are taking very good care of her. Right now, they’re in the process of changing how they do care for people there. They’re dropping their staff for one thing, and they’re also putting a new thing at the place, that if you’re walking by and somebody needed your help whether you were their aide or not, you are to go in and help them no matter what. I think they’re upping their care level. I think they’re trying to do the best they can.

I was sent here after total hip replacement surgery in July 2015. I knew very little of Ellis Manor, except that it was near my appartment. The worse thing about this facility is what they call food. I lost 30 lbs just eating a small bowl of cereal in the am. The smell of rehashed broccoli made me throw up one afternoon. So don't count on meals. Instead have a friend bring you meal replacement bars and order from a nearby pizzaria. The staff was okay but they did have a couple of sadistic nurses as well. My smartphone was stolen. Try for a single room with shared bath. For 2 and a half months, I got through it.

Do not place anyone you care about in this horrible place! To be clear, I am not her child and have no say about her placement. My elderly relative, who is of sound mind and body, is depressed and angry since being placed there since a recent fall. She went from living alone in a quiet apartment to sharing a tiny room with a stranger who has many visitors and watches a loud TV 24/7. The food is horrible and the poor thing cannot even get a hot cup of tea with her meals. The staff makes constant excuses, like they ran out of ink to print menus for residents so residents are not given a choice for their meals. For two weeks!

A terrible experience. The staff are unprofessional and have no respect for patients. I complained to the Director of Nurses about aides and continuous breeches of confidentiality. Staff talked about patients in the hallways and at the nurses station. She told me "I had unrealistic expectations regarding confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in a place like this. " To me this says it all about the attitude and the respect the facility has for patients. I was forced to private pay despite being Medicaid pending when I entered the facility. It took me over a year working with legal intervention to get my money back. DO NOT PUT ANYONE IN THIS PLACE!!!
