My sister is a resident of Alta Vista Healthcare & Wellness Centre. The physical condition of the building is fair. Since she has been there, she was placed in an evaluation or quarantine room for a couple of weeks before they put her in a regular room. She does have access to a telephone, which is good. She has called me several times and expressed that some of her clothes are missing since she went in. She doesn't have access to her call light as readily as she needs to have it, because she only has one hand that she can work with. When she calls for some assistance, she doesn't get assistance right away. She says she can't call for help because she can't reach her call light. For some reason, they don't put it in close proximity where she can get it. She is eating better; they are feeding her regular food. She had started to gain weight. The nursing staff, the CNA, they need a little bit more considerate training for being polite and respectful to the patients. She'd like to put on a t-shirt before they put on her dress, because she is quite thin. Sometimes they aren't accommodating and listen to what she's asking them to do. The dress would be too big, and it just hangs down and exposes her chest too much. She has asked them several times to make sure that she fits on the clothing that makes her feel more comfortable. They'd lose her things. I brought dental cleaning products and dental adhesive to be able to put dentures in. They don't clean them, and they don't put them in her mouth like a regular routine. Every time I go, she doesn't have them in because they didn't clean them, and they lost the products you use to put them in. I've called them several times and sent letters to find her personal items. They are kind of slow in doing what they need to do in that area. The LVNs, I would give them a four. The CNAs, I would give them a one; they're not very polite, they're not cooperative when she asks them to do something. They don't answer their call lights.

My mother is 85 years old with dementia. She came to Alta Vista from the hospital. She also has arthritis in her spin. She has diabetes . These are a few of her health problems. She has been at Alta Vista for almost a month. It has NOT been a good experience for me as her daughter or for her especially . I just wanted my mom to be taken care of well. So many times I have come in to visit and something is wrong or that it just takes what seems to feel like forever to get a problem resolved. For instance "Please can you get my mother dressed" and hours later she still wearing the same thing. A t shirt and a diaper. Come in the fallowing day to find her only in a diaper covered by a small blanket. Another day in a wheelchair witn a shirt and no pant sitting in the dunning room with only a flat sheet covering her legs. And again. Sitting in the wheelchair no paints in the hallway . All this while the lady next to her in her shared room is dressed.

The staff at Alta Vista is good, but my husband isn't. Wherever he goes, he's going to have somebody that’s going to handle him because he's real mean. Right now they're trying to find a pill that will relax him so he won’t hit somebody; they’re trying to find some medication for him. It’s very nice and very clean, and it seems to be well-run; they're good. They’re doing their job, and I’m satisfied.

Alta Vista's rooms were small. It's an older facility. It's some place you don't want to be for very long. My dad was here for a few weeks or close to 100 days. The food is fine. He was sharing a room with someone. It was small and the staff was fine. Their accounting portion was very good. They helped me with it.
