I visited this facility

Desert Hills Memory Care Center was very nice and clean. I like their attitude. They think it's a neurological thing rather than a psych thing, so they're not as big on drugging their patients as they are on helping them, and I like that. They have another section for memory care that is for calmer people, which is good. The rooms and dining rooms are very clean and look very new. It seemed like they had enough staff. They have a place outside where people can walk. The director was very nice, knowledgeable, and very interested in knowing the background of my husband, so that's very nice. They sent me home with a homemade pie, and it was good. The facility is very new, well taken care of, and well-manicured.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend moved into Desert Hills Memory Care Center. It's clean. There is just one large room that they come to. They try to get them out of their bedroom. They are not allowed to have any personal furniture or personal items. They can't even have a TV. They do have a TV room though where they can sit and watch TV. The personnel seem very polite and helpful. The room is nice. She's actually with two other people. There's a full bed with the two people, and then she has a single bed by the window. They do their hair and nails, and they have a few activities, but there's no one there helping her walk. All the residents are in wheelchairs, so I don't feel they're doing anything to improve their status. They have an exercise class, but it's just chair exercises. The place is not very homey. It's like a big gymnasium room, and they're all in there. The lights are bright. They do have a TV room where they can go and get away from the bright lights.

My dad is at Desert Hills Memory Care Center. The staff is professional, and that's what I like about it. I don't like the facility. Most of the people are kind of decrepit. They say that they have activities, but my father was the only one doing them. He was doing everything by himself. There are no high-functioning people other than my father in the facility, so it's a very low-functioning type of facility. The facility is open and clean. It feels comfortable. The food is OK. I would say it's not really good, but not really bad. They have bingo, a movie night, and a walk program. They're having an Easter activity, but there's very limited participation. They have a beauty salon, but the beautician only comes once a month, so it's really crowded. They have an outside patio, gardening, and animals available.

Desert Hills was the blessing in a hard situation. Making the choice to place my mother into a memory care facility was the hardest decision that I have ever had to make. But Desert Hills truly made the process easy and smooth. They helped me get through all the hoops of gathering documents from the doctor. Once my mom was there we saw and immediate improvement in her, she was socializing again, joining in and doing activities, visits started to go well again with family. The communication from the facility with myself has been amazing and made me feel so much more at ease with everything. I would recommend Desert Hills to anyone looking for a good memory care. Especially because it is only a memory care facility. Their staff has been wonderful and treat my mother like family.

Desert Hills Memory Care Center is a nice place. Mom moved in there. The staff were actively participating with the clients. They have an outdoor area for them that's gated, so you don't have to worry about them walking off. There are security codes on the doors. They can't walk off, even the interior doors, you have to type in a code, I believe, for them to get out. Very interactive. They've been friendly. The building itself is airy, I like that it's not bright. It's updated. Smells good. They had tables, chairs, and couches spread out, so people had a little space. You can walk off into other areas, into it if you want more of a secluded spot, that's almost like a common area before you get into the rooms where they're housed there. They have little couches there, so if they don't want to be out in the middle of everybody in a little darker situation, they could. Her room is clean.

The tour at Desert Hills Memory Care Center was very good. I was very impressed when we got there. The office was in nice condition. The receptionist was very welcoming. I met with the director, and she had a nice separate conference room. She asked me many questions about my sister. She explained to me about memory care. It was very impressive that they understand the disease and can educate us. She was very detailed. Everything was nicely set out. She took me to the area where the residents lived. Everything was nice, neat, and clean. Everybody's bed was made. There were people in the common area, and they were having activities there. They had a nice backyard with tables and chairs. They were our second choice. The dining areas are nice and clean. The tables and chairs were in place. It was a nice atmosphere. I liked it from the beginning.

We toured Desert Hills Memory Care Center. The rooms were semi-private. The dining room was more cafeteria-style. The director that we met was excellent. She answered all our questions. She was very good. We were there during lunch, and they were having lunch, and that was about all that we saw. It was a smaller facility. They had a salon and a patio area. The location was fine, but they didn't have bathrooms in the bedrooms. So that's another thing.

I visited this facility

My mother moved into Desert Hills Memory Care Center. It’s fabulous. The rooms are very plain, and the residents’ belongings are within a closet in their room, so the residents don’t actually have access to it, which I think works well for them. They do not have a bathroom in their room. There is, however, a bathroom like every 10 feet of the facility, and they’re exceptional. As a matter of fact, they just won an excellence award for the fifth year in the row. They are just wonderful. They love their people. I have tried the food because they had a special day for Patriots Day -- which was open for family members -- and the food was very good. They have tons of activities. They have people coming in from the outside to entertain them. My mother has only been there for 1 month, and we have been there on days when they had a lady that played a harp and when they had a gentleman that sang and played a guitar. They keep them very well occupied. They have different days when they do manicures for the ladies and they put make-up on them. They’re great. They keep them really involved and very busy.

I have my mom at Desert Hills. They are knowlegeble and friendly. I had to move my mom because the other place said that she had behaviors. They would 5150 her all of the time. Once she moved to Desert Hills she had no issues. They know how to treat and respect the life that is in their hands. They are very clean and take every measure to make sure that my mom is well cared for and that is priceless. When it comes to care, remember, you get what you pay for. Desert Hills is the real deal.

Desert Hills is clean and really nice. It's like a home and doesn't feel like a nursing home. They actually do what they say they're going to do, like activities with seniors. They play bingo, and they take their seniors out on little road trips in the community. The staff seem really caring, really nice, smile all the time, and they seem like they care about the job.

Desert Hills is very clean and very well-organized. They keep the patients very clean. I did have an issue with the security in the beginning, to be honest. They let someone in they weren't supposed to let in. There was poor communication in the beginning, and it did cause a lot of problems. I had to write the director a letter, so now we're communicating by e-mail a lot. My aunt's husband is only allowed to visit Monday through Friday when she is there, and she is to observe the visit, so I do feel better about that. The food is pretty good for a facility. They could improve on that, but it's all right. They have a mattress on the floor now, so at least they do take care of her. They call me and let me know how she's doing. They let her make a phone call to me. It is much better there.

I visited this facility

Desert Hills was very nice and very expensive. I did know some people who had their loved ones in there and they seemed satisfied. I like this facility. They specialize in Alzheimer's. They had seminars on Alzheimer's and I went to a few of those. The staff that I met was in the managerial position and they were nice. I also met one lady there and she was very nice. I think she had been a nurse. She interviewed me and my husband. She also tried to assess my husband where he was at. Their rooms were nice and clean. Their eating room though was nothing special. Some parts of this facility looked nice but their little eating room was just very plain.
