I got the small room for my grandmother. The living atmosphere is very nice, considering other places I’ve visited it’s the best one. She’s unable to go and eat, stand or do anything, so they feed her at her bedside. The value for money is fair.

The Lakes at Banning is a very nice place. It’s great. My mother-in-law has a nice room, air-conditioning, a big shower for senior citizens, built-in shower seats, and everything else. It’s big enough to put everything in. She has a television. It costs $2100 a month and that includes all of her meals and snacks. They have a movie theater with lounge chairs for about 35 people. They have live entertainment once a week. They have a bus that will take them out. If they want to go shopping, they’ll take them shopping, and they’ll tell an approximate time they’ll be back. It’s a nice place.
The nurses are on duty all the time. They check on people and make sure they’re adjusting. They give a test for the first couple of weeks and make sure they’re adjusting alright. They take photographs of the food that they get. If they take the food back to their room, they don’t have to. They have a big restaurant there. It’s a very good place. It’s everything she ever wanted. The staff is great. The food is very good.
Her room is very nice. It’s a one-bedroom with a small kitchen. She has her own refrigerator with a freezer. She has an air-conditioner/heater, which is good, and she can do whatever she wants. She has a sofa, a chair, and a bed that tilts up. The activities are very good. They have outings and trips, and they got a pretty good-sized bus. It’s all up to them if they want to go or not. It’s not like they have to go.

I didn’t like Stanford Cottages Senior Living/Citrus Gardens. The staff was nice, but it was very dark and very unkempt. They had sheets on the bed that was torn and old, and the floors had chairs in them. The rooms were old, dreary, and sad. The beds were very old-looking. I didn’t like the location, it just looked dumpy around there. They should improve on everything, except the staff, they’re really sweet. They needed to improve the whole building; I would never do a tour with somebody and show me a really unkempt room. It needed to be remodeled and brightened up; the walls were dark and everything. The clients looked like they were drugged, maybe they weren’t but they were just out of it.

It’s like a bedroom- living room kind of all in one, and then the bathroom. Each one has its own, so there’s no shared rooms. Every time I’ve been in there, everything seems really nice. The dining area seems very nice. It’s like a large home kitchen kind of dining area, where everybody comes together and sits. They have a little beauty salon. They have classes, but I don’t know much about them yet.

What to Consider About Assisted Living in San Jacinto
California’s Senior Care Licensing Program oversees assisted living facilities in San Jacinto and the rest of the state. Field staff from its 13 regional offices monitors and licenses these facilities and performs regulatory inspections. The Riverside Adult and Senior Care Regional Office covers all the cities in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including San Jacinto.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in San Jacinto
The climate in San Jacinto is moderate with warm summers and mild winters. Sunny days are the norm with an average of 270 days of sunshine per year. The area doesn’t get much rain, and seniors who are tired of snow won’t see any here. San Jacinto’s average January low is about 37 degrees, which is 15 degrees warmer than the national average. However, it still has about 22 days annually when nighttime lows fall below freezing.
San Jacinto doesn’t have a local hospital, but Hemet Global Medical Center is only about 2 miles away. This facility provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient acute care and specialty services. Its cardiology care services, minimally invasive surgical options for orthopedic conditions, total joint replacement, pain management and physical therapy are potentially relevant to older adults. The medical center has received Primary Stroke Certification and specializes in treating stroke symptoms.
Seniors in San Jacinto don’t pay California state income taxes on Social Security income. However, most other retirement income is taxed. California’s income taxes are relatively hefty for seniors with higher incomes, but those with lower or mid-range incomes don’t pay nearly as much.
Sales taxes in Riverside County include 6% in state taxes and 1.75% in local taxes for a combined total of 7.75%. This means seniors in San Jacinto benefit from paying lower sales taxes than 68.5% of California’s other cities and counties. Plus, groceries are tax-exempt, and prescription drugs are just charged 1.75% in local taxes, which also potentially benefits seniors.
Although the overall cost of living in San Jacinto is higher than the national average by 19%, it’s primarily due to higher housing and transportation costs. Health care costs are lower than the national average by 12%, which can benefit aging adults who require ongoing medical care.
Paying for Assisted Living in San Jacinto
Per Genworth’s Cost of Care Survey, San Jacinto’s average cost of assisted living is $4,525 per month. While this is higher than the national average by $225 monthly, it’s lower than the state average by $475.

San Jacinto’s cost is much lower than El Centro’s by $1,300 and Oxnard’s by $1,320 per month.
